No worries.   I'm pretty focused on that schedule right now, since we have an early July final payment date for our westbound TA out of Italy in October.   I can't imagine making final payment, we're just wondering whether to cancel now and start the refund process sooner.

I just cancelled an October 2020 cruise April 20th. Deposit was refunded on my cc April 29th.

If you ask for refund, they return to your account as you had them.

If you use the FCC, you get the extra 25% on them and they go to the same FCC pool

Where did you get that information?

My Cruise Next certificates were returned to my account and then I received 125% FCC on the balance

25% FCC also includes Cruise Next amount

  3. Has anyone encountered any problems recently in cashing in their OBC that they purchased themselves before cruising?

The only thing I have heard is staff are required to have a manager sign off on anything $1000

or over so it is simpler to cash in your OBC in increments under $1000.

On board OBC just shows in USD. They don't know what you paid for it.

  4. Thanks! Sorry for the additional question... although I have cruised with NCL 2 other times, this is our first time taking advantage of the UBP since it was included with our booking. Are you saying that every "free" drink we order will be charged an 18% gratuity on the would be cost?

No. What Moby0215 said is correct. The change isn't retroactive.

When you booked the gratuity was included in the UBP promo.

In addition if you prepay your DSC you won't have to pay the increased rate

  5. Bought in Canadian dollars.

Bought OBC on first cruise at 1.08 for 1.

Now they want me to buy OBC for second at 1.33 for 1.

    Thanks for your good wishes.

    Does someone have an answer?

Just cash in OBC at casino on first cruise ( 3% charge). Save US cash for 2nd cruise and use it against account when onboard.

At that low exchange rate I would purchase more for spending on shore.

Don't forget to prepay daily service charge for first cruise at low exchange rate.

  6. I have learned a lot from this thread. We booked 2 cruises (Jan and Feb 2017 ) and the rate was $1.15.

I won a free 7 day cruise ($1000 USD) and increase it to a 14 day cruise. NCL Finance Dept would not give me the additional cost in CDN $. Any suggestion on how I can buy OBC in Canadian dollars?

Is the free cruise in addition to the 2 booked cruises? Is it after these cruises?

If you have any CDN rate cruise before the free one ask if OBC can be used to buy gift cards.

If you can and have a CDN rate cruise before the free one then load up on OBC on the CDN rate one, Use OBC to buy gift cards and use gift cards on US rate cruise to buy OBC.

  7. All outstanding balances charged at the end of the cruise are in $US.

All previous cruises were booked in USD

So on CDN fund booked cruises final account charges will be charged at USD and CC company will converted at current exchange rates.

That could make a final poorly calculated casino withdrawal pretty expensive.

If I have excess OBC remaining will it be refunded in USD and converted by CC company or will NCL convert at locked in rate and refund in CDN

  8. I need some help trying to figure this out. When I go in to my NCL account, it confirms my prices are in CDN. Le Bistro is showing $23.54 CDN which includes the 18% gratuity. I'm not sure what the US charge is for Le Bistro, but I'm assuming it's $20.00 plus gratuity. I may be wrong. Does this mean I'm getting it at par?

I went on and purchased $300 in On-Board Certificates, and my CC was charged $300 CDN. Does this mean when we board, this will be showing in our account, OR do they actually put certificates in our cabin? Sorry...it may be a stupid question, but I have never purchased on board certificates before. So if they are showing in our account and let's say I purchase $1000 CDN in total. Our service charges per day will be $27 US. Are you saying they will take the $27 US at whatever exchange rate NCL is giving me....at par or 1.11 (booked Dec 2014 for 2015 cruise) out of the account?

I want to be really clear on this as we are 4 couples cruising and before I tell them they should all do this, I want to make sure this is correct.

I assume we would still be providing them with our CC number for the account, but it would not be charged until the on-board credit has been used up?

    Thank you in advance.

    Sorry forgot to include

All currency exchange is done when you purchased in advance. OBC should be on your account in USD. All onboard charges will show in USD.

The one question I have is if you have have an outstanding balance at cruise end will it be charged at your locked in exchange rate?

It sounds like your exchange rate is at par based on your OBC purchase.

You should prepay your daily service charge. You will be paying in CDN at your exchange rate and think you may get it at the old rate before the increase.

  10. It's one per cruise, not every 7 days. You can use it any day, not just on the bag special day. If you do another bag special the second week, even if you put Platinum on the bag, you will be charged for it since the certificate is one per cruise.

My answer is based on our 14 day Panama Canal cruise on the Star this past October.

We were on the Jewel Panama Canal cruise and used 1 each per week for a total of 4.
