  1. Just said I was hoping that was not the case. There really is not a way to know the facts and was wondering if somebody had a little more insight about the situation. Had to explain to my kids why we can’t go to the beach today and now stuck on the cruise ship. I wish they gave us the option of leaving the cruise ship when it was in port instead of spending the last day going back out to sea. Would have loved to spend a day on the beach in Fort Lauderdale before we fly back home tomorrow afternoon. But I understand that they really are not setup to have people get off the ship a day before. Customs, etc.

If they do shut down do you think MSC will give full refunds to passengers with cancelled cruises?  What if you cancelled for a FCC before your cruise was officially cancelled?

There is a chance you can get a cash refund if they cancel the cruise and you did not cancel yet. I am sure they will steer you in the direction of taking the FCC like princess cruises but might have the option of getting a cash refund but may take a little more work.

If you canceled and took the FCC before they announced the cancellation of the cruise, I highly doubt you will be able to get a cash refund. They are not offering any refunds to people that canceled their cruise before they announced the newer FCC policy a few days ago.

  3.  We had four people in one cabin including a 70+ year old and almost canceled the booking for FCC because they were not going to go but glad I did not now. You’re going to have a better chance of getting a full refund if they cancel the cruise.

I noticed in the princess cruise announcement that did have a way for people to request a refund but Are trying to steer them in the direction of taking FCC and offering a bonus if they do.

If you call to cancel your cruise MSC is claiming it will take up to 14 days to get your FCC. You will not be able to immediately use it. So you'll either need to wait to rebook the same cruise you just cancelled, or pay in full for it and use the FCC some time later this year or next.

I just noticed that on the page at https://m.msccruisesusa.com/en-us/Mobile/Cruise-Deals/Cruise-Assurance-Program-FAQ.aspx

Also just 1 person can not cancel. You have to cancel the entire booking. So I would have to cancel and wait 14 days hoping that rooms are still available and the price has not gone back up.

With only 3 going now instead of 4 the price difference is about $1100. Guess I will cancel and roll the dice and hopefully we can still get back on in 2 weeks. Also they don’t allow you to use any of the future cruise credit for onboard charges. 😕

  5. I am surprised they are only giving a credit for a future cruise and $100 per cabin if they cancel a cruise instead of giving a refund.

A few years ago we flew across the country to Miami to go on a cruise with Carnival. When we arrived they told us one of the engines on the ship was broken and could only go about 30% of the speed they normally do. As a result we spent many days at sea and only 2 ports closer to Florida.

when we arrived they offered those that no longer wanted to go on the cruise a 100% Refund including paying for their airfare. Those that still wanted to cruise got a 50% refund and a 50% credit towards a future cruise. They also threw in $100 credit per person instead of per cabin which gave us another $400 onboard. I was really impressed with how they handled the situation.

Right now, they are allowing customers to cancel cruises booked through July and giving Future Cruise Credit. Would it be worth your time to find out if you can cancel and rebook the same cruise? Speakerphone would free you up to do other things while on hold...

I will call them and find out. 4 of us were going and one was my mother who is 75 and no longer wants to go because of the scare. Hopefully they will allow us to cancel the original booking and use all the credit for this trip with only 3 people now and allow us to use all the credit for this trip. A few years ago I was on a cruise ship that had some issues and they offered a 50% credit but the credit went to the individuals in the cabin even though I was the one that paid for the entire trip. So my friends that I paid for ended up with the credit and they never used it.

  7. I have gone on many cruises but this will be the first with MSC next month in April. We booked our cruise on a balcony and paid in full a couple of months ago. I just noticed they have a new promotion where you can get a balcony for inside rooms prices. Now if I book the same balcony configuration on the same cruise the price is $700 cheaper. Has anybody had any luck with MSC about getting a refund for the difference since the price is now cheaper? Even onboard credit for the difference would be fine or me.  I would call them myself but it seems the wait time could be an hour or two.

    Thanks!
