My guess is the cheapest hotel in town will be housing those crew members for the next cruise if they are not outside their 10 days of quarantine.  Those that will be considered "covid free" by the time they make it back to Curacao will stay on board.  Just a guess that may make it eligible to disembark at the islands next time around.

Most of the crew are not US citizens or residents. They might not be allowed ashore in the US for quarantine and have to stay onboard. We were on the Allure a few weeks back and the crew we spoke to said they were not allowed to get off in the US right now unless finishing their contract and leaving the ship.

This is very good news.  I just posted this information in the Carnival forum.

According to this Miami Herald  article (who are extremely biased normally because of the power of the cruise industry base in South Florida) even with skeleton crew on these ships,  the crew are still getting infected with COVID-19.   That potentially doesn't bode well for how the cruise-lines have already been handling the provided guidelines they have been given since this outbreak began.

The industry is dying right now and needs all the help it can get. So do all the workforce who rely on cruise traffic for income.  I wish them the best of luck trying to operate with COVID numbers going up.

  3. It is beyond crazy to transfer any people to the rotterdam as the whole point is this virus leaves you with no symptoms for on average at least 5 days so guaranteed there are people who will transfer that already have it.

It is awful for anyone who thinks they may not have the virus but there is no point in transferring people right now. All you are doing is risking yet more people (crew of Rotterdam and debarkation port) getting infected who had no exposure before.

  4. Should RCL suspends all cruises for 60 days ? Yes they should.

We are in a time of crisis. This is not a joke or media hyped frenzy.  This virus is not the flu once and for all and has finally been declared a Pandemic!  Please think of everyone else right now not just your potentially lost leisure time which is painful i know but that's what it is.

I just cancelled a trip to japan for next week and lost quite a bit of money. I also have cruised over 30 times including January this year. I feel your pain but we all have to do what's right for the better of everyone else right now. Don't be a potential future part of the problem.

  5. My guess is it could be legal immigration status related for a large amount of the crew from countries that need visas for the US. A lot of crew members are from countries that require visas to come to the U.S.. I consulted for another cruise line on crew scheduling and a lot of employees were literally allowed in the U.S. for a 24 hours or a few days in order to board the Ship for employment and that's it. They were given a Letter of Employment from the cruise line stating as such to present to immigration on entry.

Again no proof, just my assumption . It's absolutely not fair to them is my opinion for what it's worth

This is completely unreasonable and also not practical at all.  A cruise is a vacation, not a trip to a military state.

Educate people to wear masks in public when having a cold, cough or feeling unwell.  We also need to educate people that anyone wearing a face mask is not a leper but being a responsible person. I saw some video of a person on the New Yok subway being drop kicked by someone for just wearing a mask.

Thank you. Yes so true this is apparently the first time a ship of this size has had to quarantine all passengers and crew and it is a steep learning curve for all concerned. Everyday I am amazed at the resilience of this fantastic crew who are taking every hurdle in their stride, with grace and humour. A Captain who is truely a great leader who every night gives the crew an update and encouraging words, praising their hard work and wonderful attitude.

I think it brings out the best in most people times like this where you need a community spirit when there's a possibillity of bad things happening.

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse
When you're chewing on life's gristle
    Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best  ....

    Thank you for your questions.

No I personally don't know anyone in an inside cabin on this trip but I have been in them on other cruises. I am not on Facebook. I have friends on board and have met other people they are all in mini suites or balcony staterooms.

Everyone is being treated the same, however saying this the old adage applies "the squeaky wheel gets the grease". I feel the crew are working hard enough under extreme circumstances and don't need people demanding things they "want" rather than what they "need". I have no problem getting two cups of coffee in the morning and we have a jug in our stateroom to heat up water. I find it mind boggling that supposed adults can't work out problems for themselves but have to rely on others to cater to their every need.

As said before people need need to come to terms with the fact we are no longer on a cruise we are in quarantine.

    Thank you for your interest.

All the very best with continuing the Quarantine Kip6 and hope you stay safe from this. As you said, this is (large scale unscheduled and unprepared for) Quarantine that just happens to be on a cruise ship. The attitudes of some people posting here seem to keep forgetting that and the serious situation that is happening.

as an aside,  My wife just got Pneumonia which progressed form a flu she got as we left our Southern Caribbean cruise of all places 10 days ago. Not blaming the cruise ship one bit. These things happen but made me wonder as ive been following this thread...

This whole quarantine smells like a massive class action lawsuit, I’m willing to bet in time they will be able to prove negligent behavior on behalf of Japan and the cruise line. They should have immediately brought everyone off the ship and into a more secure quarantine facility.

I'm sorry but enough with stupid talk about lawsuits. This virus is still in its infancy with the facts still not clearly known and you want to focus on lawsuits ? Please just stop .

The ship is foreign land.  Japan didn't even have to let them dock but they did. It's not just because there's Japanese citizens onboard. The Japanese people are very gracious and trying their absolute best to minimize risk for all concerned and help those who have been infected.

The paper has not been peer-reviewed. Chances are it will be, and its conclusions either found well-based or not supported by the data used.

Meanwhile, scientists will keep it in mind as they cautiously approach decision times. If a lot of new cases arise in the next week, I would expect the 19th to be way off the table, regardless of whether a bunch of guesses say 14 days with only one study saying 24.

Not peer reviewed but the paper is co-authored by the Doctor who discovered/raised the alarm about SARS in 2003. His data is based on 1000 infected patients.
