What's it like in mid November?  We'll be coming into Galveston on the Allure TA.  Any fog then?

November is typically fog free. Dec-April can be bad at times. It really just depends on how bad the winter is over North America. The cold air from Canada push through and down south to the Gulf of Mexico and eventualy to the East.  When they pass through the warm Gulf air moves back over land and this creates the fog.  The cold fronts can sometime make it all the down in November but the land is still relatively warm. You should be fine.

Not sure it makes much diff as RCI won't have ships out of there this season.

I was hoping they were opened up so I could follow their protocals etc.

Ok, the math is not as simple as you make it out to be.  First, all of the players and staff had the J&J vaccine on April 7.  There is a four week period following the shot for full vaccination to be effective. The cases were found the first week of May, which means the infections likely occurred up to a week earlier, well within that 4 week window. There was carelessness somewhere.  You cannot make a perfect correlation between the Yankees and a cruise ship with fully vaccinated cruisers. Finally, the most important factor is that 7 of the 8 infections were asymptomatic and were only found because of constant testing. According to the new CDC rules, there will be no required testing for vaccinated cruisers out of the US.  It’s likely no asymptomatic cases would be found.

Are you confident those dates and timelines are accurate?

Pretty sure the media is reporting it — otherwise how did you hear about it?

So, just curious— you asked me a direct question earlier.  Any particular reason why, or something specific you hoped to glean?

I meant the media would be reporting a covid break out on a ship. I'm concerned as the next person. But my concern is about the ports we would visit and the unvaccinated people that we come into contact with. As opposed to any non vaccinated cruiser. And no there was nothing sinister or devious in my question to you. I just wanted your thoughts. I will ask no more questions of you. And I truly hope that the question did not bother you.

It sure does.  For comparison, here are the top 10:

    Maine 50.1%
    Connecticut 49.3%
    Vermont 48.4%
    Rhode Island 48%
    Massachusetts 47.7%
    New Jersey 45.2%
    New Mexico 44.9%
    Hawaii 44.7%
    Maryland 43.7%
    New York 43.4%

Agreed. The blue states appear to be a bit more worried & concerned. I'm not sure if it's practical but do you think they could just allow cruise ships to be filled w/ people that flash their IDs from Blue states? That would go around Fla laws but still do the same thing.

No.  Eight players and coaching staff out of 50 on traveling team. Seven of the eight were completely asymptomatic.  Hardly “hit pretty hard”.

OK 10 out 50. Soooo.... let's see. A cruise ship w/ 4500 vaccinated people using the same %.... that would be... 900 people. You're right.... that would be hardly "hit pretty hard".

OMG.... this one always gets people riled up.

This was a big topic of conversation onboard  a few years back... kept hearing people talk about it in the elevators and at the bars  and  it carried into the talk with the officers.

According to the captain, Royal Caribbean pronounces it "Kay"  not "Key";  RCI considers Coco "Kay" the name of the island and pronounced it this way, well before it adopted the "Perfect Day" moniker.

Another officer compared it to "Kay"-man Islands  not the "Key"-man Islands.

Listen to any and all references by the company,  officially, the island is always pronounced. "Kay"

Yes, "Key" is the proper pronunciation according to the grammar purists.   However, the "Kay" pronunciation is widely used in the U.S. and considered accepted by various grammar style guides and many dictionaries.  Apparently British English, Welch English, Australian English,  American all say it differently.... going back and forth between the two.

    Copied from a style guide:

Cay is most often applied to Caribbean islands, the preferred pronunciation is “key Cay comes from the Spanish word, cayo, which means key. An alternative, acceptable pronunciation commonly in the English speaking United State is "kay" rhyming with "way".

Also, on board it was discussed whether the "Schooner" as in "Schooner Bar" has a silent "C".  There was a huge discussion that the proper pronunciation of the word is "shoo-ner"  not "SC-KOO-NER"

Captain said "Sc-koo-ner" and the grammar style guides pretty universally back him up.

So, whether you swear that it should be "key" ; "kay" is acceptable, it's what RCI calls it,  and is not grammatically incorrect.

I prefer to be unmasked on a fully vaccinated ship, over masking in all public spaces with no vaccination required.

May I ask a few questions?
... if the CDC did not require masks for cruise ships and did not require vaccinations as well, would you still feel the same? meaning is it just all about the masks or all about the vaccinations?

Also, what about port stops? Are you concerned about the possibility of bringing Covid onto the ship from non vaccinated locals?

I'm not too worried about other people, but I think if the cruise lines require vaccinations, at least at first, they could protect themselves.  If a bunch of unprotected people got on the ship and there ended up being another run at an outbreak onboard, then the media would go crazy with it.  I feel safe, having been vaccinated, but I'd also like to not lose the privilege of cruising again.

There wasn't anything keeping me from getting vaccinated.  It didn't hurt, I didn't get any reaction, and Bill Gates already knows where I live.  My doctor highly recommended it ASAP, and I trust him so I went with it.

I can't wait to get back out on the ocean and put all this behind us.

    Tom

But non vaccinated people at port stops can infect you just as much as the non vaccinated cruisers. So what difference does it make? And in either case should it occur, the media will still make it a mass hysteria type reporting

  10. The whole CDC orders are just plain confusing. We were told to wear masks to protect others. Now we’re told vaccinated people don’t have to wear masks. So does this mean the non vaccinated folks don’t need to be protected any longer? Confusing.

Then we were also told airlines were safe to fly months ago because they had a special air flow & filtration system but now when masks can be removed, airline travel still require masks. Confusing to say the least.

At this point I don’t believe anything that is stated or required by the CDC is actually following any form of science.

We just all want to cruise safely and wish that someone would clearly offer a logical, reasonable, response to the industry so this can occur
