RCI has a history of this and unless/until there's enough pressure (social media these days), they will not change their ways. In the case of the Allure->Wonder switch, they can't accommodate everyone  so a refund and moving on is likely the best way forward.

A full refund is “like value”, but they aren’t offering that for those of us with FCC’s.  They’re offering refunds only on additional monies paid.  That’s not “like value” when cruise prices have had such rapid inflation over the past year, the FCC has materially depreciated.  That’s the difference between RCCL’s past actions and what they’re specifically doing here.

I have been following this thread for a few days now, and I have to say this:

So basically what you're saying is that you think that you should pay the same as someone who originally booked the JS on the allure but have the benefits of someone in a star class suite, because you had the capital to book a CLS in the first place? I do empathise with your disappointment, but I do think that you're being a little unreasonable. You've still got an amazing offer. RC could have just cancelled all the sailings and basically said "Sorry guys, sailings are off, but you can rebook at 3x the price on the Wonder" - They STILL would have sold out the suites in several days.

You talk about 600+ customers who have been disappointed, to be honest if everyone had been knocked down, it would run into the thousands of people who would be complaining. I am sure that RC did a risk assessment and shockingly discovered that 600 is less than 2000+.

You're still getting full suite access, you're still getting $300 and you're still playing LESS than someone who booked a JS on the Wonder. It's not what you originally booked, but you're still getting a good value offer.

And let's be honest. You're going to take the offer anyway.

Pretty easy to sit on the sidelines and say this.  A little harder when you dropped $6k to $20k on a room only to have the other party reneg.

I’m in a similar position to Bob and am appalled at RCCL’s offer to full suite customers.  I don’t want a JS, that’s why I paid for a a more expensive suite.  If I wanted a JS, I would have bought a JS.  The added space in the room is a big deal to me.  Star/Sky has value, but it’s pretty easy to define that value, and it’s nowhere near the price differential.  It’s the room AND the service that I bought, not one or the other.  And a $300 OBC is NOTHING compared to monies already spent.

We have contractual rights here, as I said before, there wasn’t a force majeure event, this was a business decision by RCCL.  You can’t bait and switch out of like value.

    From the email:

    • We’ll do our best to move you to a like-for-like

Lately...not so impressed with RCI's "best".   Will wait and see.  If it works out...fantastic! 🙂   But I am not putting on my rose colored glasses for this.

This is a brand new ship, will be available for fresh booking by Wednesday.  Very popular to book new ships, especially the European cruises and even more so...the TA.

The Wonder has less suites than Allure.  I am in a B2B2B GS on Allure, finishing with the TA.

RCI claims to be transferring all of us 3 weeks AFTER new bookings open.  Can anyone guarantee we will still have a GS available they can switch me to by then?   The D+ rep on the phone told me it may not happen...and has happened like that before.  Told me I could request a refund if not happy with results.  Great.  😞

I’ve seen a few make the comment that RCL may attempt to sell suites prior to the transfer of existing paid guests.  If this happens, and I lose my reservation, I will raise holy hell.  This isn’t a force majeure event, RCCL made this decision free and clear.  It’s bad enough to swap into a ship with half the suite availability, but to then go out and actively sell those rooms before you’ve taken care of existing customers?  No.

Not only would RCCL permanently lose me as a customer, within 24 hours I would have an email out to every corporate executive at RCCL, every major travel blog, and every major news organization.  Whether any of it works or not, wouldn’t matter to me.

  4. So I may have a problem.

Booked into 2 Bedroom ATS on Allure for Europe, now shifted to Wonder.  Email from TA (Costco) says I’m promised a rebook in “same or similar”.  However, there are three less Star class suites, so something has to give.

Option of “full refund” is bunk, as I have a huge FCC from a cancelled early 2021 cruise (that I booked in early 2019), and they will only refund new monies.

If downgrade occurs, it will likely be a big one.  Potentially all the way to a JS, which will not work for us (family of 4).

As I’ve had a miserable experience with another RCL cruise (Also suite sailing this fall).  So, if I get a downgrade I would prefer to just be cashed out my FCC and walk, which I’m guessing they wouldn’t do.

All flights are booked (including other family on separate reservation).

What approach would you take?  What is the minimum you would need?
