  1. We sailed on Octantis in March to Antartica.  World Cafe was great and if you’re looking for a bit more intimacy dine further towards the stern which has bit different atmosphere. Enjoyed Sushi area as well. Entire dining experience was very good and yet different in view of being a smaller ship than the Ocean ships.

We were scheduled for the February 15th sailing of the Octantis to Antarctica. We arrived in Miami for the overnight at the Sheraton, but Monday morning one of us tested positive. We were put in quarantine for five additional nights at the hotel and arrived home today. We are both in good health and showed absolutely no symptoms. Very likely either a false positive or asymptomatic case. We were very devastated at first, but now accept the loss.

Krys and I wish all of you wonderful expeditions ahead on Viking. We hope to do try again in two years.

We entered the ribs via the door in the last photo attached. There is a step down to it and 4-5 people helping if needed. Everyone I saw was fine on this including people in their 80s.

I also saw on vikings website saying you will enter the inflatable crafts whilst being inside the ship. We did not find this to be the case.

The only boat entered whilst inside the ship was the special ops boat that you can see below on the wheel slipway photos.

The submarine was also entered being away from the ship.

I hope you are able to do the submarine activity. On the second dive they videoed a 33 feet phantom jellyfish which is hardly ever filmed.

It is not out of the question that on some of the sub dives there will be new species discovered!

Also attached photos of the 6th deck communal areas as I'm not sure if this has been seen much.

I've got other photos of the hanger if interested

I bet you are looking forward to your trip!

  4. So exciting and any/all photos will be gladly received.   We depart for BA on 1/21 independently.  Challenged with getting PCR test results in timely fashion & now have backup for testing at Atlanta Hartsfield w quick turn around between flights. Most likely rapid pcr but just in case our CT labs can not deliver within time constraints.

Yes something like that. It is a fantastic opportunity!

Please do let me know if there is any information you would like about the ship such as photos/general review.

I should be in antarctica this time next week!

The MarineTraffic only use shore earth stations for providing ship positions, if you only have the basic (free) version. It also shows all ship AIS signals from the satellites, but doesn't provide details, unless you pay a monthly fee.

CruiseMapper is showing 1 actual position per day and then computes a DR position, based on the ship's course & speed. While CruiseMapper may show a position, there is no guarantee it is accurate.

Thank you. Suspected it might be do to free aspect of service.

  7. I am new to participating to these posts.  We are on the 1/23 Antartica sailing. Have been following on Marinetraffic Octantis passage from Norway and see her last AIS transmission still has her off of central Africa.  That being said there has been no further coordinates for number of days because out of satellite range although you can pick up other ships in same area.  Speculate on where she’ll bide her time in between there and hopefully meeting us in Ushuaia.  So looking forward to this adventure but challenging with all COVID testing deadlines.
