Thanks for the info Chateaunole-du-pape.  Just curious, when did you receive your GTY room assignment? (how far ahead of your cruise?)  Thx.

I did check every other day, and Monday the room was assigned on their website. We are cruising on Friday, so 4-5 days before.

You should get 4. $9.99 each to upgrade. Barely OK - you don't get more bandwidth when you upgrade, but your data request is put to the front of the line so streaming works (mostly).

    Thanks 🙂

We are close to land most of the time, and have a EU data plan, so maybe we should just stick to 4G.

  3. Going on Splendor on Friday, and have booked a Superior GTY, and can now see we are upgraded to a Concierge, which normally include 4 wifi logins.

Do we get 4 logins? Or 1?

If we get 4, do we then pay 9.99 USD for upgrading to their "premium" wifi for each login, or 9.99 USD total for all?

Is the wifi okay to do Youtube/Netflix streaming if we have the premium plan?

Last cruise was on Celebrity with Starlink installed, and it was very good for streaming.

Not surprising given the short time until the cruise.

It's not mentioned on their website, where you can read about all the beautiful excursions before you decide to book. The first stop warnermunde is all excursions full beside a 12 1/2 hours trip to Berlin. I think they should make that clear on their website, so people know what they are going to book.

However it's not going to ruin our trip, we are going to make the best out it, and thanks for the tip about going to the theatre.

Restaurant booking was not an issue.

FYI, if your bringing on a laptop anyways, both a Mac and a windows PC has a built in hotspot which does the same thing as a travel router.  Just put "hotspot" into the PC search.  Screenshot from my PC:

As said "Mobile Hotspot", which means it can share a Mobile connection over Wifi.

If you want to share a Wifi Network, you need a PC (or Mac) with two network adapters, otherwise it wouldn't work.

  6. Does anyone know, what Celebrity (and other cruise lines) stands are on doing this?
Someone could argue this is the same as stealing, when you split up the connection with a travel router, and i'm not so happy about being kicked of the ship, if that's what they are able to do.

I know they probably don't enforce it, but what if they one day would?

  7. Hi.

I'm on the 3/13 Silhouette sailing from Miami, and have Always included in my cruise fare. They offer prepaid upgraded internet to Premium Wifi for 12 EUR / 12.99USD pr. day pr. guest. Does anyone know what the upgrade price from basic to premium is when onboard?

Is Starlink confirmed installed on Silhouette? Can see last forecast for installation said 12/22/22.

    Thanks :)

We have friends just back from Apex their verdict on the chairs - terrible. They will never book an Infinite Balcony cabin again.

It's not the same chairs they have on Apex, and the one shown in the picture from Beyond is actually pretty awesome, and even though i'm a quite big i really loved to sit in them.

Thank you! What time of day did the noise start and what time did it end in the evening?  I guess I don’t mind if it’s a bit noisy during the day but not past 10pm.

It's not noisy past 10pm, since nobody is using the outdoor space at that time. And since we had days with pretty bad weather during the trip, people mostly used the space when we docked in port. But 08-10.30 and 12-17 i would say was most noisy, but just one person pulling a chair out in the back area of the ship is enough, since that kind of sound travelling very easy.

We called Front desk, but they didn't have another SV available, but they offered us a Infinite verance, which we rejected. They also told us to call if, the noisy was too much, which we never did since i simply didn't see what they could have done.

Did you have noise issues from above like chairs scraping on the floor?

We had 12307 on Beyond, and was also told from others here "no noise at all", but if you are a little noise sensitive i would avoid a SV on deck 12, because there is a lot of noise issues, and chairs are scraping a lot on the floors during the day, and i don't understand why celebrity didn't use felt under the chairs, because that would have helped a lot. They have felt under the chairs on the balcony.

But we got a great deal on the cabin, and the balcony is massive with two loungers and two chairs, we had so many amazing sail aways on that balcony.

How can anyone be disappointed by others way to dress?

When seated in a restaurant i couldn't care less about how other people dress, what can bother me is if they are loud/drunk, smell or anything like that, but simply their look is nothing i even take notice of.

I’m onboard the beyond now and have been nothing but satisfied with starlink. We have 4+ devices connected on the ship (iphones, iPads, and MacBook pros) and all are receiving 10mbps up/down anywhere we go on ship. We have tried all over the ship and have been extremely satisfied.

I work in tech and have been able to stream music, videos and do multiple zooms/FaceTime so far with and without a VPN. Is it possible there was an issue with your devices? I haven’t heard any complaints yet while onboard but most people complimenting the speed.

NOT a musk shill. Was actually anticipating poor internet but have been presently surprised…

    Hi.

That's great news, and was just not the case for me last week. Speedtest.net's App was also blocked, but it looks like it works for you again.

I'm using an iPhone 12 and also a Macbook Air M1, and the connection between my device, and the access point was excellent. I'm also working in tech, and would have been grateful for 13/9 Mbit/s on a ship, but as mentioned it was not the case, and it looked a lot like traffic shaping at Celebrity's end since the speed offered was pretty close to what you got before Starlink.

  13. Hi.

I've just returned from Beyond's sailing from Barcelona to Rome, and had high hopes for the new Starlink Internet. I have seen speedtest that shows over 100 Mbit/s posted on this forum.

Unfortunately the internet didn't felt much better than before. The speed maxed out around 2-3 Mbit/s, so my thought is that celebrity is limit the speed a lot. I talked with one of the officers, that told the speed was excellent the first week, but now slow as before. He mentioned that the first week even gaming was possible.

I had to do some Facetime calls (without video), but have to give up. The upload was suffering a lot, so every 30-45 second, the other person wasn't able to hear me.

This is quite a bummer for me. I know people have different expectations, but if you have to use it to work, it has to be stable. One thing i noted was the latency was improved, and around 50ms.

I'm wondering if Starlink is okay with this user experience, if Celebrity limit the speed so much?
