Can the hub app be used without having an internet package? We weren’t planning on purchasing an internet package. I guess the days of checking our S&S accounts on the in-room TV’s are gone as well as purchasing shore excursions using the TV? Showing our age I guess 😳
You can check your S&S on the Hub app, same with the shore excursions.
Honestly, you don’t have to spend a lot of time on your hub app. We made reservations for restaurants and a massage before we boarded the ship. I looked at it a few times a day to confirm particular events we wanted to do, while DH napped or when I was in line to get a coffee. I would check my favorited activities when I was looking at a menu or something.

I noticed a lot of changes that couldn’t have been put into the old version of the Fun Times did end up on the Hub. Example - on Horizon last week there were changes to the music line up in the atrium and the Pig and Anchor made with an hour of the time they were supposed to go on stage. DH really liked the string trio. So he was interested in showing up to hear them.

I did talk to someone with a room on Deck 2 that said their room was really cold too.
DH said the entry/exit areas on Lido, 11 and Serenity/Spa were hot and humid. He put it down to the folding doors opening and closing so much.

Carnival does all 3 on one sailing with 2 fun days at beginning and end each. Did this in May and it was great! Donkey is a great CD and the Sunny Girls Trio in the Atrium and teamed up with Playlist were great too. Did I say One Amazing Cruise??!
We just got the Horizon yesterday! The itinerary is Awesome! Cookie is the cruise director now - love him so much. The Polaris string trio are in the Atrium - we might as well have just camped there at the bar. Loved the music!

If you like to snorkel, on Aruba there are yellow painted stones on the side of the road around the island that mark dive from shore sites. There are multiple sites - we did get to three of them. We will go back to do more.
Curaçao is our favorite though because of the town area with the pontoon bridge and the little shops and restaurants. Take an early excursion to Mambo Beach or one of the other beaches. But make sure to leave time to go thru the fort to the bridge and into the town area on the other side.

We were on this same Horizon cruise. We had early dinner - so we didn’t notice the issue the first night. We had a quick dinner in the DR with no issues.
The TV’s did reset everyday. But it wasn’t a huge problem. You simply turned the tv off and then back on. It came back up to the main tv screen after that. (I wonder if this was a way Carnival has to keep people from leaving their TV’s on all the time?)
We didn’t experience any of the AC problems either. I was worried about that as I had read several reports of those issues.
One of the port days the internet, tv’s and phones were down for several hours. I had the social internet package - so I was just sending pics on instagram. I didn’t have problems with it for a long time.
We had a blast! We were on a cruise!- 1

Just off the Horizon today - there were no listings for Thrill Theater on the Hub and every time I went by there were no choices for it.

We leave tomorrow out of Miami on Carnival Horizon. I’m just wondering if Fiona will interfere with our haul out to the ABC’s. Seems like anytime I pick one of my “bucket list” ports of call the weather gets in my way (Half Moon Cay on multiple cruises and Grand Cayman).

We did the cucina del capitaino for lunch every other day for the pasta with marinara - no meat and the grill for French fries with our picky eaters before Covid. Right after we got on the ship we would walk and look at all the food venues, to let the kids get an idea of what was offered.
Our youngest is on the autism spectrum and has three main meals that he will eat. We haven’t cruised with him yet.

I chose mine today for our cruise that sails on the 17th.

Unless you are getting a wagyu burger or a fancy gourmet burger from the gastropub on Princess or similar, IMHO it IS indeed the best burger at sea.
I have enjoyed wagyu burgers on a number of trips. But, onboard the cruise everything tastes better - so a “smash burger” sounds wonderful!- 3

We have been away from cruising for about ten years. I am looking forward to trying Guy’s burgers and fries.

Carnival routinely has calls to the ABC islands in the deep southern Caribbean. They are non-Journey 8 day cruises. I have done two of them since the restart last summer, both on the Horizon.
We are on that cruise in September. The ABC’s have been on my to do list for a while.

Where do these direct flights stop en route? They can be pricier and aren't as convenient.
Even my tiny town in northeast TN has direct flights to Orlando, Tampa and Miami. But to get to San Juan we have to go from here to Charlotte or Atlanta then on to the San Juan.

I’m sad to see Carnival not sailing out of Charleston, too. We have cruised out of there several times. But, the locals didn’t really like having the cruise ships docking there. I have looked at sailings from Norfolk, it’s just a bit further than Charleston for us. Can’t wait to see what they offer!

Carnival Hub App Necessary?

fair warning about reservations to the restaurants - some are booked by the time you board the ship. The Bonsai Teppanyaki is difficult to get for supper.
We don’t like the anytime dining - so I didn’t really think about that one. Oops! But the restaurant and bars all have printed menus. The server might look at you strangely for asking for one, because a lot of the people seemed to have their phones out constantly. DH and some newly made friends all got menus.
