Ship - Explorer of the Seas

    Deck - 12

    Stateroom # - 1858

Stateroom Category – Panoramic Ocean View

Starboard or Port Side - Port bow

Quiet Stateroom? - Zero noise from PASSAGE (except slamming of cabin doors by guests who don't hold the handle while closing; please do this!).

Some thumping noises from fitness center BELOW were easy to ignore. This side is away from the fitness studio where loud music may be played for group workouts.

Deck chairs that could make scraping noises are on the deck ABOVE, but it is hardly used due to wind.

ALERT: Under some sea conditions, there was a continuous, rhythmic shudder every two or three seconds. Rather awful most of the time. Cabin attendant says Deck 12 has a couple cabins with this. Note: they were all added in a refurbishing session.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - no

(non-balcony) View - – Great view through huge sloping windows. Not directly down as it's one deck above the walkway that leads to bridge viewing area. You can just see the flagstaff at the very pointy part of the bow.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - n/a

    Was wind a problem? - n/a

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - n/a

Any specific problems with this cabin? - structural noise described above.

Any other comments? - slightly larger than balcony cabins on Deck 9. About four feet deeper. Bed faces aft (looking out window while lying down).  Walk out a hatch directly onto jogging track area above pool deck. Or take nearby forward elevators to everything except Studio B and Medical Center.

  2. I'll be in a Panoramic OV on Deck 12 dep 4/28 for Barcelona and will report back at some point.

My guess is the thudding of equipment will be noticeable, but not nearly as bad if it was overhead.  There is a chance of deck chair scraping noises from the sun deck above.  And of course, the various screaming from the beauty and health treatments in the adjacent Vitality Spa.

    🙂

  3. If traveling Solo in a cabin where two small beds are combined to make something queen size, can I request entirely removing one of the small ones?

I would guess a lack of storage for housekeeping would nix this idea...

but it would really help create some space in smaller interior and OV rooms.

    cheers

Is it still not available on transatlantic arrivals?

That's a great question, but my guess is no due to Customs requirements.

Or...(based on reading a RCL .pdf from some time ago)...you would claim your luggage shoreside in the usual way, do the declaration, then leave it nearby with the vendor who takes it to the airline for you.

    Anyone able to confirm?

While this pic (much appreciated) shows a 6pm cut off time for SWA, I contacted Bags, Inc. and was told that has been changed.  My 7pm flight out of FLL in Jan 2024 is eligible for Luggage Valet.

Also, read a tip worth repeating: take a print copy of your airline reservation for signing up on board.

Follow up: Luggage Valet was NOT available on this cruise (Silhouette 1/25/24 FLL-Key West-Nassau). Customer Service explained that was because it was only a Four Night Cruise.
