All I can say to all you smugglers is  -  Why ya'll???  Know I am likely to get slammed for this, but got to say it and don't care.

I know drinks can be expensive on the ship, but really.  Either save a few bucks before you cruise and step up... or maybe drink a little less?

Always got to be those that have to break the rules 🙄

For me it wasn't so much about the money. It's about convenience.

I want drinks in my room. I have 2 small kids.

So wife and I want our tequila shots and mixed drinks without having to run to a bar.

And with Cheers, i cant' come back with my wifes drink. She has to get her own. So we both leave the room? Not gonna happen.

    That's why!

Problem with this is that if they find it, and I know that's in "if", it's pretty obvious what it is.

The larger containers are part of what we smuggled this last weekend. That's over 1 litter between both bottles.image.thumb.jpeg.eef07d65a56e64f50d5d0e781244b0bf.jpeg

Funny because I have always wondered the exact opposite.

Why on earth would you pay money for something you can easily do for free? It is SO EASY taking my carryon on and off the ship, and I always have everything I need with me that first day. I honestly can’t fathom why any able-bodied person would use a porter.

Because i don't have enough hands to carry all the S%@$ my wife packs.

And don't forget many of us have kids we're have to chase during embarkarion, medical devices we might have to carry on board, etc.

    So not that easy @ilovesparky13

I used 2 of the 32oz plastic flasks on a few occasions. X-ray won't even pick them up.

    OK good to know.

Maybe it depends on type of flask. My understanding is that they're actually more likely to go through your carry on and find something, even if xray didn't catch it. In fact, all the sellers of Disguised Flasks online specifically say to NOT take on carry on, since on checked bags they're really looking for weapons and that kind of thing and will only open your luggage if it's totally obvious.

This is what I will be taking on my cruise tomorrow. Used something similar years ago.

Packed in ziplock bags with my wife's other similar looking containers.

We do it because it's easier to smuggle booze on board. Security has longer to look at checked luggage. For carry on, security has a few seconds to scan to keep the line moving. Much easier to get booze on board. 😀

You really can't smuggle too much on carry ons that wont be too obvious.

I've smuggled 2 litters worth of booze in fake lotion containers and it worked.

Not sure i could get those same larger containers with my carry on.

To answer the other side of it. Why would I want to check it instead of carry it? They seem to be tougher on security with carry-ons. I have twice if not thrice had them digging through my backpack looking for what turned out to be a wallet or a bottle of cologne or something like that. I have never had them call me down to open my suitcase for anything. So the thought of having to bust open my entire suitcase in the terminal like I did the two times I flew to Cancun is not appealing.

Also easier to smuggle in alcohol when you check in your bags.

Verifly has not been updated yet.

Also know that if you are cruising to Bermuda, Bahamas, and I think Cayman or Grand Turk, a test is still required.

Curious... does the health assessment require confirmation of negative test? Or is it just asking the general health questions and vaccination confirmation?

it has the check mark but won’t let me click on it.
    Is that standard?

  6. So I leave on Aug 4 on a 4-day Cruise. So based on new info I know we don't need to test, right?

However, VeriFLY is still telling us in the app that we need to do our testing.

And Carnival just sent us this email yesterday (Monday).

What gives? They just haven't updated their info?

Getting worried and wondering if maybe we should just get tested today, since cruis eis 2 days out.

And it doesn't count against your 15 drinks a day.🙂

    THIS!!!

On sea days, 15 drinks might not get me to dinner. And I wont even be drunk.

I'm a big guy. 2-3 to get me started at lunch, and 15 will come quick over the next 4-5 hours.

Of course after dinner is when I'll want to hit it hard.

So I have a huge problem with the 15 rule. Not that 15 is that limit on the package, but that they won't let me purchase past that point.

So anything I can get in my room will help the cause.

You can get bottles of liquor on-board two different ways:

From the "Duty Free" Fun Shop, to take home with you at the end of the cruise.  Relatively cheap ("Duty Free").

From the (online pre-cruise and I guess during the cruise?) "Fun Shops", to be delivered to your cabin to enjoy during the cruise.  This is relatively expensive - about $80-100 for a what I guess is a 750ml bottle of hard liquor.  You can browse products/prices here:

    https://www.carnival.com/in-room-food-beverages?q=:price-asc:category:liquor&sort=price-asc&page=0

    WOW!

I was expecting expensive and over priced, but this is black market prices!

I will probably buy a bottle anyway. But now I feel less bad about trying to smuggle some liquor in.

They do not search your bag and do not specify how many bottles are in your bag after going through x-ray machine. They just say take your liquor to the table. It has worked every time.

    Thanks for this!

I will definitely be trying it, especially since I plan to buy several bottles in Mexico.

One will not make it home!

We just returned from the Miracle out of the Port of San Francisco and I just wanted to post some information from our trip in case it’s helpful to others.

We flew into OAK airport the afternoon prior to embarkation (I always check both OAK and SFO since they are so close together).  For us it was better to fly into OAK and out of SFO after the cruise.  Anyway, It is super quick easy to get an Uber/Lyft from this airport to the Fisherman’s Warf area.  The cost was $44.99 before tip.

We stayed at the RIU Fisherman’s Warf.  This hotel is in a fantastic location, but it’s super busy and not very quiet.  We heard every footstep from the floor above and voices though the wall.  It has the smallest bathrooms I have ever seen (but then again, it’s bigger than on the ship so I guess I can’t complain).  It was fine for one night.  I was initially concerned about safety in this location (from things I’d read) but I actually felt so safe that I got up at 6:30 am embarkation morning and jogged down to the pier and back by myself (felt completely safe the whole time).

Miracle was docked at pier 27.  Whenever possible, we love to walk to port, and this hotel is an easy walk to the port (but take into consideration we walk a lot and travel with only a carry-on and backpack).  It’s about a 15 minute walk (.8 miles).

We arrived at 10:05 for our 10 – 10:30 arrival appointment time.  The doors to the terminal were locked and there were lines outside separated by arrival appointment times.  The doors opened around 10:30.  We went through the typical check-in process, and boarding began at 11:30.

After the cruise, we had a late flight home, so we picked up a rental car at Fisherman’s Warf (again, about a 15 minute walk from the ship) and returned it to SFO airport that evening before our flight home.  If you decide to do this, be sure to reserve your car in advance as they run out.

Is it accurate that you can drink the water out of the sink in your room?

If so, how is it on the Miracle?

My wife drinks a LOT of water, so trying to figure that one out. She goes to bed with 24oz on her nightstand and it's gone by morning. And that continues all day long.

Wondering if that water will work. Otherwise any chance they sell water by the gallon or something like that?

When in port, buy two bottles and ask the store to pack separately. Put in your back pack. When you get back on ship and they say take you liquor to the check in table, reach in you pack and give them one bottle to check, leave the other in your pack.

    Whoa!

    Is that confirmed to work?

Would love some nice Mezcal to enjoy on the way back home!

The easiest thing to do is to buy a bottle from the online Fun Shops for the cabin. It is pricey but by the time you add up buying the containers and then buying the alcohol to put in them you aren't really saving much over the cost of the bottle and with buying the bottle you will know it's there. As I understand it liquor not in an original bottle is confiscated and destroyed, but you would also be called to the "naughty room" so they can open your bag in your presence. The thought of having to stand in a line wasting vacation time when I don't have to is what keeps me from even thinking about it.

    Wait, now I'm confused.

Earlier you talked about trying to get your purchases from the store after the first leg.

Can I buy a bottle of liquor and take straight to my room?

If so I'll do it, even if it's over priced. (what isn't on vacations). But sounded from the chat here that if I buy alcohol it's only to take home, not to drink on the ship.

    Can you clarify please?

They are pretty good at finding it these days from what I've heard. I don't know of any sure-fire ways to get it onboard anymore.

I heard that that they're really looking for is weapons and that kind of thing. Of course if they find alcohol, they also confiscate. But that's not their mission. That's just so they can make more money.

The stuff they sell looks pretty legit, with seals and everything. So even if they take off the cap, there would be a seal.

Yeah I'm sure they've seen it all. But hoping it's not obvious enough that they'll move on looking for the next knife or gun.
