Lighthouse Bikes is a great spot. There are bike trails near the shop that get you out of the business of the city and out to the area lighthouses. Mellow riding and beautiful.

Take a bike tour at Lighthouse Bikes! They offer two and three-hour bicycle tours that visit area lighthouses and share local natural and historical information about the area. The three hour tour comes with an option to buy a delicious lobster roll at the famous "BITE INTO MAINE" food truck at the Portland Headlight. Really beautiful ride with incredibly friendly staff. You can also just rent bikes there. 

They are located 1 1/2 mies from the cruise ship terminal-a quick walk or Uber!

Normally, we shy away from cruise line excursions because of the size of the group as well as the (usually) higher cost. This time, it seems there are fewer options for our October cruise, so we may need to go with the cruise line. We've narrowed their offerings in Portland, Maine, to:

1) Drive through Old Port, discover warehouse district, visit Fort Williams and oldest lighthouse; and
