Oh definitely we would let them know. In fact I called the cruise line to ask if we were able to do this, and was given a sort of equivocal answer. They are supposed to be getting back to me. I'm a little irked because I can't imagine what the problem would be, but I will wait and hear what they have to say.

We are also thinking of staying off the ship in Rome, although we would then need to take the train to Florence to get back on the ship. This would give us more time in both Rome and Florence (the day after Rome is a sea day).

I have started researching this and the trains seem to run often between Rome and Florence. What I am having a harder time figuring out, though, is if the main train station in Rome is near any good (clean and safe, not necessarily fancy) hotels. Does anyone have any suggestions?
