We are on now with kids.

There is nothing for them to do.

Previous cruises they've been on (Princess)  they have loved the kids club and I couldn't keep them away. Now they don't want to go.

Park 19 is not open and not expected to be for "some weeks"  (what they said yesterday)  and there is only one pool worth going to and that's at the back.

Kids are having a very expensive week in the pool!

    Never this ship again!

Ugh!!! I have to wonder if there is any financial recourse for parents with kids and having Park 19 completely closed. Especially since this was the main reason for booking the Sun. I wasn’t thrilled about sailing on the Sun but what swayed us was Park 19 for the kids. I kept saying Park 19 was going to make it worth it.

I saw somebody mention on another platform that they spoke with a crew member and were told there are no plans to open any parts of Park 19 in the next several weeks.

We sail on the Sun Princess over Thanksgiving and I'd like to think there's no way it's not open by then, but who knows at this rate.

I know Park 19 is the only reason we chose this ship so I certainly hope they figure out how to get it open soon...I feel really bad for the families who have sailed already and didn't get to enjoy it.

Exactly. That is the absolute only reason we chose to sail on the Sun.

Asked yesterday....(I'm on it right now).....and the answer was "We have no plans for it to be opening for the next few weeks"

He didn't give a reason why.

Thanks so much for the updates. We board June 1. Are there any aspects of Park 19 open, or is it 100% not usable? Thanks again.

I'm assuming because child numbers are relatively low, they often merge all the 0-12 year olds into the firefly room (Neon Grove is supposed to be the space for 8-12 year olds)  This will hopefully change when there are more kiddos on board, I hope. But because I have an active boy with lots of energy, he is pretty bored with the kids club overall. He enjoys the video games and elements of it but he needs more opportunities to run around and get energy out- park 19 would be perfect, ughhh! He is not a big crafter which is mostly what they have been doing. Also close to park 19 there's a netted area with some large connect 4 games (both faulty though), a bean bag toss and little trikes for 2-5 year olds, again not much going on for older kids. We are a pretty easy going family overall but this cruise just doesn't seem that kid friendly to us. There isn't even a kids section in the eatery(buffet) which I also assumed was standard on princess cruises??? Luckily, he can live off the pizza which happens to be amazing! We will have dinner in the MDR tomorrow night and I really hope there's a kid menu! But yeah, for our first ever cruise as a family with a 9 year old, maybe Royal Caribbean would have been the better choice for his sake. For adults though, this cruise is paradise!!

We are on the ship until Sat, so if you have anymore questions, ask away 🙂

I do have a question. I heard they were starting to charge for soft serve ice cream on the sun princess. Is this true? Or did they see the error of their ways?

Hi Mary, fingers crossed for your June 1st cruise but as of now, it is still not open and we are finding this cruise not very child friendly at all. But hopefully that changes! Good luck

This is so disappointing as we purposely booked this for the Grandkids with the Park 19 etc and all the promised offerings for the kids. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

And I got 3 calls from that number this morning. I don't have voicemail on my cell - keeps 95% of the junk calls away.
It came up as "unknown" and a Google search led me to this post.
I am NOT a Suite guest, nor casino - merely a lowly Oceanview on my first cruise with Princess.
    Thanks for the info.

That’s fantastic. We will be at the lounge also. See you there.

    Mark and Christine.

  7. Thank you so much. Good to hear about the sanctuary reservations.

We are also going to be on the Sun in a suite (Barcelona to Rome) June 1st. We are also excited about the Sun Sanctuary on the Aft.

We have had outstanding to mediocre service in the Sanctuary. I think it all depends on the management. On the Enchanted, we had the absolute best experience. A woman named Alice was in charge and she did a fantastic job. On the Sapphire, the service was definitely mediocre. The staff spent more time on their phones than they did working. Very disappointing.

  8. Thanks for all the great information. We just received our email today inviting us to the Go lounge in Fort Lauderdale for our Regal Princess TA sailing on April 5th. I asked if they could make our Sanctuary Reservations and they said they could. So we will see how this goes. I am cautiously optimistic. I’ll report back after our experience and let you know how it goes. This is a first for us with the Go Lounge.

  9. The Sanctuary has always been our favorite place. Especially with just 60-100 people. It seems as though it has changed and it is now just a money maker for them. It seems so sad that now on the Sun everyone is so crammed together. It is heartbreaking that they would do this. And I agree, ever who it was that designed and approved this should be fired.

Thanks - good spot. Oh my, looks like they might have their sodas in glass-front grab n go fridges. The amount of times we had to show fellow lounge guests the secret of how to open those metal doors just to get a cold soda!

And what is the secret to opening up those doors?

Be sure and look carefully. As you will read, some are saying that that have been told that their travel insurance doesn't consider a cancellation by the carrier to be a covered loss.  I have to remind myself that I bought it for HEALTH reasons, but still, this is something beyond our control.  Feels like people are getting it from both ends 🪛

Oh that is excellent information. Not to sound naive but we have always relied on Princess Vacation Protection and now learning that wasn’t enough. And that is always so expensive for each cruise.
