We were in L105 on the Discovery Princess to Hawaii in March and just returned from being in L107 on the Majestic Princess to Alaska a couple weeks ago.  In my opinion, these are some of the best cabins on the ship.  The views coming into port, or viewing the scenery in Alaska, are absolutely fantastic.  Sure, the metal balcony may not be see through, but that doesn't bother us a bit.  The large size of the balconies more than makes up for that part.

This is just my experience, but we don't feel a whole lot more motion in those forward cabins than other places on the ships.  I feel you would have to be very susceptible to motion sickness to have it affect you any more in these forward-facing cabins versus any other cabins on the ship.  We love extra motion for it makes us sleep better at night.  On our recent Alaska cruise from two weeks ago, we were a bit disappointed from the fact that there wasn't more motion.

Thrilled to read this! We are headed to Alaska in September and booked M107 for us and M103 for my daughter and her friend (M105 next door was already booked). We've been a little concerned about motion but this eases my mind. Thanks!

  2. Following to hear your thoughts on the forward balcony. We're booked to Alaska in the big forward mini suite, but put my daughter and her friend in one of the forward deluxe obstructed cabins nearby. We're trying to decide if they should stay there or move more mid-ship (first cruise for both of them). Hope the cabin works out well for you, and appreciate your feedback on it.

  3. Thanks, everyone. Lesson learned. I'll be honest, this is not the greatest introduction to this type of vacationing, and I hope it doesn't cloud the trip.

I'm surprised there isn't more concern from cruisers over what, to me, seems like a shady advertising practice. First-time cruisers aren't necessarily going to be aware that it can't be taken at face value. It certainly wasn't clear to me, and I was definitely not assigned "best" as stated (quite the opposite, in fact). That is my major issue with this.

Harris, I'll watch for your reply - thanks again!

Celebrity website says that the cabin assigned may have an obstructed view. If you want to make sure you won’t be assigned an obstructed view, you’ll need to pay more

Thanks, I see that now. I booked through a travel agent, so this wasn't what I was presented with.

However, notice right above what you circled - it states, "best available stateroom in this category, based on availability..." There are decks full of better rooms available in this category right now. This seems dishonest to me. I was assigned the worst of the category, not the best.

  5. We are brand new to cruising and just booked our first for November on Celebrity Eclipse. A few days ago, we booked a "guarantee" veranda, and although we are still waiting for the official documents from the travel agent, I can see the booking on the Celebrity app. We have been assigned a mid-ship obstructed view veranda on Deck 6. I thought "guarantee" meant it was assigned closer to sail day and that it would be best of what is still available in the cabin class. There are tons of non-obstructed verandas still available on higher decks. Any advice?

Edit to add that I'm feeling a bit disappointed and would be willing to pay a bit to upgrade at this point. I wish this would have been more clear when we were booking.
