Doesn't hurt to try to get it changed.

One time I took a guarantee inside as I couldn't get the area I wanted. I got no upgrade, nor did I get a decent assignment. Way too far forward, tiny cabin.
I called my TA to see if there was anything better she could get for me, and lo & behold I was reassigned to the area I wanted! Still no upgrade, but that was fine with me. I got a much larger cabin mid-ship.

If you don't ask, you don't get.

We are mid ship so that is good, unfortunately it's a fully obstructed view from what I can see online. I'll call my TA tomorrow and see about moving to one that is a little less obstructed. If not, we will still be on a cruise:)

  2. We booked a guarantee obstructed view balcony for our cruise January 7th on the Nieuw Statendam. We received our room # today and it is indeed a obstructed view room. Has anyone been assigned a different room after one was assigned?  Of course we were hoping for a little upgrade and yes ,we usually choose our room but needed to save a little money the time.

What hotels are you looking at?  Hotel budget?  You can book Embassy Suites and purchase Cruiseport transportation for $20/pp.  Also look at Country Inns which has a cruise package.  The budget choice would be the cruisepackage through trinityreservations.com at the Ramada for $200 tax included for a room and round trip port transportation.

Thanks for the info. Ideally would like to keep hotel around $150.00 then figure in transportation to the port ( so around $200.00 total).  Sounds like Ramada would keep us near our budget.  I will also check the others you mentioned, thank you so much.

Thank you all so much for your assistance. I like the reviews I am seeing on Dial7 and am going to give them a call. We are from a smaller city, and my husband and I never have to use public transportation unless we are on a trip and then we use transfer/shuttle services to/from airports and cruise port terminals. We are skeptical with using taxis and services like Uber/Lyft, despite their popularity. I appreciate everyone's input.

When in August are you cruising?  We are on the Summit leaving on August 4th.  We have only ever cruised out of FL or San Juan and also from a small town so the transportation thing is kind of nerve racking for us as well. There are only 2 of us on this cruise and flying in the night before. I am still looking into hotels.

Booked on Monday morning, checked the next afternoon and had a cabin. This is for an August, of this year cruise.

We booked a Concierge guarantee on Weds on the Summit in August and checked this morning and we have a room now also. A C2 with one of the bigger odd shaped balconies.

There are several other rooms on that same deck showing up so I think I could move us to different room in the same category if I wanted.

  6. We booked the Summit last winter for this next February. We use an online TA- perk from Celebrity was $300.00 OBC, TA gave us another hundred plus pre-paid gratuities and and beverage package. Celebrity then cancelled our cruise because the Summit was going to Dry dock during the time we booked and gave us another $200.00, now at $600.00. We cruised this last May with freinds and family for a wedding and I received another $125.00 in referral OBC from the TA- now we are at $725.00. Being a loyalty member with the online TA will get us another $50.00 when we cruise plus another friend is cruising this fall and we will get another $25.00 referral OBC from the TA to go towards our next cruise once she completes this cruise. Total OBC for our Jan cruise on the Equinox will be $800.00:D:D:D. At this point I don't know what will be refundable OBC and what will be non-refundable but once we get on the ship I can get that information from the customer service desk.

I plan to upgrade one of our beverage packages and then spend another good portion of it on excursions. :DWe've never had this much to spend so I'm looking forward to it very much.

  7. OP - From your signature, it appears you have been sailing Celebrity recently. Would like to hear how are they working out for you. We do not find much difference in overall experience between RCCL and Carnival (each has pros/cons for us depending on our desired vacation experience). Thanks for any insight.

We actually really like Celebrity. The only reason we sailed the Glory and at this time if the year ,was because our son was getting married on St Thomas and they picked the cruise. It seems that many read more into my OP then what I actually said. It was by no means a terrible cruise and we are not "old folks" at 55. HAL and Celebrity do not allow smoking in their casino and I had forgotten how bad it gets on that deck when walking by or trying to stop to have pictures taken. It was also interesting in our past guest party that they told us there were only 25 Diamond and 154 Platinum guests on board, far different then what it's been on other cruises.

Carnival is great option for families and all though we have never used it I know they have a great kids program.Joanne is the Piano was indeed very good and we spent a couple of nights in there. We also very much enjoy interacting with the staff and getting to know them, after all they tend to be family after a week or more on board. This time we just didn't leave the ship feeling very sad, even the song on the final night in the dining room did not bring tears to my eyes like it always has in the past.

  8. To the OP: Want to try something different? Book MSC Seaside for about 2/3 of a Carnival fare. MSC will match whatever status level you with have on another cruiseline or hotel. Many of their low fares are now AI, so why not experiment?

I don't see a reason to stick with just one cruiseline. I don't buy only one make of cars, stay at only one type of hotel, or shop at just one brand name store. Variety is the spice of life.

I was probably on the Glory the week prior to the OP. The Taste Bar was closed all week, one playlist show was stopped for "technical reasons" and when it resumed a half hour later, maybe without the taped soundtrack, the singers were horribly off key.

I'm Diamond, and I'm looking forward to a spa balcony on the Horizon in a few weeks, but I also have MSC and NCL booked for later this year. I really don't need to post rationales why I don't sail exclusively on carnival, but if it made the OP feel better, I'm all for them doing it.

Great advice, thank you. A co worker was just telling me about MSC and they look like they have some great itineraries.

  9. We just got back yesterday from a cruise on the Glory and I think this will be our last on Carnival. The ship even though it was just in dry dock last year is still showing plenty of wear and tear. Although a good cruise there just continues to be way too many cut backs that seem to be more and more every time we try another cruise with them. The biggest thing we noticed this time was the room stewards and the insane amount of rooms each one has to clean. We started by asking for both morning and night service like there had always been in the past but by day 3 we told our room steward to just come in the morning as she could never seem to finish in the morning before 1 pm and was still doing the night stuff when we returned from our 6 pm dining time at 8.

Also very disappointing are the stage shows. The new playlist ones are just not good, we miss the big production shows and are something we have always looked forward to on our cruises. Besides being ear splitting loud they just aren't very entertaining and when person after person leaves mid way through it would seem that we aren't the only ones that feel that way.

The dining room food was fairly good but still not a great fan of the American Menu. Dress code in the dining room is non existent, shorts and t-shirts on formal night were a common thing. Not sure why they even bother with it. Guys burgers and The Blue Iguana never disappointed us, always fresh and hot.

The staff were fine ,especially our dining staff but many on other parts of the ship seemed to avoid any eye contact and rarely said hello even when we tried to greet them.

We have done many cruises with Carnival over the years but after trying some other lines recently and the vast differences between them, I think it's time for us to say good bye to the Fun Ships.

  10. Ok, I will ask, If I pick a totally different cruise, will I get the same promotion as was being offered when I booked (ie $300 obc, and free internet) or just totally out of luck.

We were booked on the Summit for next February and it was cancelled because of going into dry dock. We kept all the perks when we booked on the Equinox that we had from the original booking plus the added extra OBC.

  11. We are cruising with our just turned 5 grandson next month and wondering about booster seats. Do we bring our own for using in the van from the airport to the port and then when are going around the islands on tours and such? I did check for San Juan and St Thomas they have the same laws as we have about using booster seats when under a certain age and weight.

    Thanks

  12. We were just moved from the March 9, 2019 Summit but were given several options to move and keep the same price.

We moved to the Dec 15, 2018 itinerary and were given some OBC for the inconvenience

    ::)

The Dec 15th sailing is $400.00 less per room the what our Feb 16th room was-same category. I wonder if they are refunding the difference? I've left a voicemail with my TA to go over our options.

  13. We were also booked on the Summit, ours was for Feb 16th. The email we received from our TA said that all sailings from Feb 16th -March 29th have been cancelled. Only gave a few dates in Dec and then March 30th and a few in April that we could change to. Not good options for us so trying to find a different ship and itinerary. Unfortunately the prices are so much higher then what we booked the Summit for.

Not a real happy cruiser right now as we had booked this one with friends that have never been to the southern caribbean.

  14. Hi,we are cruising in a few months on the Carnival Glory with a group of 20. We have early dining and I'm wondering what is the biggest table seating size. I know I've seen 8 in the past on other ships but wondering if they ever do 10?

    Thank you
