  1. Has anyone been to the starfish sanctuary in Cozumel? I’m trying to find out more about the scenic ride along the coastline to the snorkel stop. I’m wondering how long the ride to the snorkel stop is and if it’s a boat or catamaran? I get real motion sick but if it’s a short ride to the snorkel spot...it may be worth the chance. I’ve gone to stingray city in Caymans and I was ok. I’d really love to see the starfish. Your help is appreciated.

  2. Which ports?

Unless the ship has been upgraded to Voom (new internet) and Splendor I do not believe has been-- the internet is unbearably slow-- think 1999 dial up slow-- so we try to never have to use it. On the other hand many Ports have restaurants and Bars with wi-fi for free (especially true of Caribbean) where you can browse the internet/email/whatever and reasonable speed as you eat drink and make merry.

So it all depends on which ports you are visiting

thanks for this information. I am going on the Freedom in a couple weeks and was going to buy the internet package, but that ship has not been upgraded to VOOM yet.

I called AT&T today. The phone, text, internet packages are $30 for 50 minutes of talk which I wont use, $60 for 50 minutes talk and 100 text messages or it was $120 for 50 talk, 100 text and 100mb internet. I just wanted texting or just internet. They don't offer it.

The ala cart price for AT&T was $.50 per text or $1.30 per picture. It was $2.50 per minute talk and the internet was $10.24 per mb.

thought id share in case someone was interested. :)

  3. I have followed this thread for years and I love seeing all the updates. I wonder if the second headstone is just buried in the sand now in front of the grave site. I seem to remember it had just fallen off and laying in the sand in front of the grave. Would it be disrespectful to move some of the sand in front of the grave to see if the headstone is just below the surface and set it back on top? Just wondering if that would be disrespectful? seems like so many would love to preserve the graves.

  4. When do you go on your cruise. We have 7428 on the Triumph in 2 weeks (9/1/12) I think it will be pretty close to yours. If your have been on the cruise please post pics. I will try to post pics when I get back.

Actually, you go before me. i dont go until February. I hope you have a great time and take good care of MY room. LOL :D

  5. Hi everyone! I am very new to Carnival and i booked the Victory aft cabin 7428 and was wondering if someone had pictures of the balcony and the inside of the room. Im trying to see if the extra $$$ was worth the extended balcony. I was tempted to do a wrap, but wow, it was an $310 more than what I already am paying for the extended aft. Its a 4 day cruise, not a week, so I thought that was a bit pricey. Would love to see pics of the 7428 stateroom and balcony if someone has it. Thanks so much for your help!

  6. okay -- please help!!! We got off the ship -- faced the island from the dock and walked along the shore going RIGHT. We got all the way around the corner -- tough going -- got rocky -- and could not find the rocks -- can someone please help us -- the directions say to go past the volleyball courts -- but there are courts to the right and to the left.

From what I remember, I havent read this in a while, but I followed it for quite a while. I remember many people writing here that you need to wear good shoes because you have to PASS a really rocky spot in order to finally get to the graves. Now, I also read on this thread that you can walk along the road to get there, but I dont know how you would know you arrived. I was thinking in this thread was a google earth map. Id read back and see if you can get more info. Ive read its a really long walk though.

Facing the island, I believe you go wayyyy to the right. I want to say I read 3 miles. Could be wrong.

  7. This is a story that I have never really shared before. First, I'm a true skeptic, or rather I used to be. I've heard people tell these sort of stories my entire life and I just listen. Yes, I'm fascinated but not really a believer. I guess I'm just too practical in my thinking and can always come up with a "reason" for these visions.

Well, I didn't have a vision, but something occurred, with 6 other people in the room (as witnesses) that has made me truly believe that there are definitely ways that those who have passed can communicate if they desire to do so.

My mom was a very practical person. When discussions ever came up about funerals, she would always say how ridiculous it was for people to spend a fortune on a funeral. She could understand why the families wanted it to be nice, but not extravagant. In particular, when friends or family members passed away and spent a lot of money on a casket, she would always say how better spent the money would be if given to other living family members instead of spending it on something that would be put in the ground never to be seen again.

My mom passed away very suddenly leaving all of us in shock 2 years ago. When we went to make arrangements, my 3 brothers, myself and my dad were sitting in the room where they have 1/2 sizes of caskets for you to look at when choosing. They are samples of course (not full size) and are placed around the walls. Each has a large, bright, spotlight above it so you can see the casket well. When it came time to choose the casket, my dad told us kids to just look at them and pick the one we liked best. So my brothers and I were looking at all of them and narrowed it down to two. One nice one that was just a basic, bronze colored casket and one that was more intricate with delicate flowers etched into it etc. We kept going back to the flower one as it was just so beautiful. Of course the one with the flowers was twice as expensive as the other one. We were trying to decide and the director told us that we could think it over, discuss it and get back to him later in the day as to which one we wanted. So we sat back down at the table in the front of the room to finish the arrangements and not 3 minutes later, we heard a loud "pop" sound...like a small explosion, and a flash of light. It had come from the back of the room. The director even said "what the hell was that?" and all of us got up to go see what had happened. When we walked into the back of the room, it was immediately obvious that the light over the cheaper casket that we had been considering had blown. It hadn't just went out like most light bulbs do, it had exploded for some reason. The director was totally baffled as to why this had happened. There was no one else in that room and no explanation whatsoever for why that bulb had exploded. My brothes and I stood there staring at one another not believing what had happened. The director hadn't been in the room when we were looking at the caskets so he didn't know why all of us were acting as if we'd seen a ghost when it was just a broken light bulb. When we explained, he simply said "well that makes your decision for you doesn't it...your mom has told you which casket she wants".

To this day I truly believe that my mom was communicating to all of us which casket to pick...and it wasn't the expensive one! :) And of course, she got her wish. None of us would ever go against what mom said! LOL

I was already fascinated with Kevin's story...but this is down right crazy over the top amazing!!!!! Im a little freaked out actually!!

  8. Hi everyone,

Found this site after stumbling on the graves yesterday during my cruise on the Crown Princess (12/19-12/16 '09). I decided to take a walk on the beach past the basketball and volleyball courts, and sure enough, found two graves. I walked back to the resort area and asked a couple of vendors if they knew anything about the graves, and eventually found one person who said that they were slave graves, and more could be found in the area.

I went back to the graves with some friends and then passed them, searching for more. Unfortunately, it was raining heavily making it pretty miserable to trek. About 10 or 15 minutes after passing the graves, we found a building marked "Cable Landing" (very faded), which we later learned from the same person was a communications building used by the US Marines, and more graves are apparently located behind it (which we didn't see due to the thick vegetation surrounding the building). Since it was raining really hard, I was only able to reach my camera in the doorway and snap some pictures and quickly put it back in my backpack without looking at them. When I looked at them later, it turned out the building was empty, although there was a ladder going below the building inside to a basement...hopefully someone on this board could check it out further.

Wow...that is interesting! Thanks for the information. Im too much of a chicken to go in the basement of the building! There were a few pictures at the begining of the thread that had parts of a building, I wonder if its the same one or different. How far was the building past the graves?

  9. Did anyone find any interesting information regarding the people in the Graves ?

I tried doing some research online a while back, but i didnt find anything...im not so good at that. Im looking forward to visiting the site in April. Something different...like a scavenger hunt. :D

  10. Bringing back a dead thread...has anyone else got more info on this? Some of the graves look somewhat covered or uncovered (depends on how you look at it) with sand. Are there alot of graves? Its very interesting.

If your heading out to Princess Cays and want an adventure...check it out. I wont be there until my cruise in spring of 2010. :(

If you read through, you will see photos of the graves, you can see the princess ship in the background on one. I think its interesting. They said the graves are bout 1/2 mile down (south end), but I do remember reading somewhere in here that at one point, you have to climb over some rocky shoreline. There was an old story that at the northern tip of this island, people would flash lights and the ships, thinking it was a lighthouse in the night, would crash there and then the people would try to siege the ship. I dont know if its true, but I find it interesting that there are graves at the opposite end...maybe people were trying to hide and some died there. who knows...wish someone had the answers to this mysterious grave site. It almost reminds me of the movie "Fools Gold" that came out...maybe there is an old library on the island with records of the people that died there. Wouldnt that be funny?

I have about 5 and 1/2 months till I get to finally visit this mystery grave site. I sure wish we had more information on the people who died there. I really find this so interesting.

  11. Is this for real or a story someone made up?

  13. you get free art from the auction ????

i like to get the money too

but my very fav in the ceramic ship iv got 4 of them one from each cruise we been on and im about to get # five :)

Im starting to do this as well! My sister has a bunch for all the cruises they have been on. Its a neat idea and I like looking at all the ships.

  14. I think the issue here is that the folks on the Pearl 3/16 cruise were charged MORE than the advertised price. Its not that I think the price was too much, although that could be argued since we pay enough for the cruise itself, but thats another topic. My reason for the original post was to notify those who want a soda card that you will pay more than the advertised price. It was just a warning. "Beware". The $5.95 per day was still posted up until very recently, when they apparently read this thread and changed it...who knows.

heelfan94...whoever posted the $40.25...its not 32 sodas. Ala Cart sodas are $1.50 each plus 15% gratuity... which is $1.73 each soda, not $1.26 as the math above indicates for 32 sodas. Also, one could argue that the tiny glass they give you of soda is not even one full can of soda and they refuse to give you the rest of the can unless you drink some right there and ask them to refill your cup before you go.

That being said, I think all points made have been good. AND I hope that the cruise lines start taking some of these things in to consideration as NCL now appears to have the highest cost for soda cards of any cruise line....anyone know of one higher than $8.63 per day?

  15. The adult soda card price states $8.63 per day. Check out the NCL website under MORE then BON VOYAGE GIFTS. I wondered if this was just pre cruise purchase' date=' but when you do the math...........perhaps it is why the OP was charged what he was.(Pre "autogratuity")[/quote']

Interesting. Where did you find the $8.63 per day? They must have changed it after this debate and all the complaints on our sailing because the NCL site did say $5.95 per day and all other sailings before ours were charged the $5.95. Also, after this first posted, others went to Bon Voyage Gifts and bought themselves soda cards for the $5.95 per day just to be safe.

This thread has a whole new meaning now if they now officially jacked up the price. Talk about Soda Cards Beware!

The $8.63 for the 9 day does work out to about what I paid on my cruise so its interesting that they changed it. Thats an insane amount of money for soda.

Thanks for the update Hooked on cruisin!

  16. If you went on a long road trip in your car for a week, you would most likely either eat three times a day at MCDonalds, cheap, or dine at Dennys, modest. You will also pull into a gas station to refill twice a day uf not three times.

At McDonalds you would probably pay a buck fifty for a soda, three times a buck fifty is four fifty a day. Add a dolllar soda two times a day at the gas stations, your total per day would be six fifty. This is at the cheap restaurant. Dennys would be more.

NCL prices reflect restaurant prices, not the price at a retail outlet.

As far as my original complaint...it wasnt that I didnt want to pay the $77.xx dollars because I did pay it...I just wanted to pay the advertised price and many other ships and other sailings got charged the correct amount with no gratuity. Our sailing was overcharged. Actually your analegy helps prove my point...If we went to Dennys or McDonalds and it said $1.50 for the soda on the board and you got up to pay and they said your total is $2.50, I think we would all question that.

Don...that is not an argument to you, I just wanted to clarify my issue as sometimes, the threads go down a different road. Truth is, I probably drank at least 8 or more glasses of soda each day and I do like the convenience of flashing the card, thats why after a couple attempts to correct the price with the financial wizzard on board, I gave up as I didnt want this to ruin my cruise by getting mad at him. It truly was a fantastic cruise, this and the photos aside.

  17. That's true...you should only be paying the price they advertise, and we've never been mischarged like that on the ship, which would have frustrated me as well. And while I possibly understand the autogratuity thing, it should be advertised and if they don't advertise, they shouldn't charge you.

I am sorry for this happening to you, but glad you posted it because you've helped me avoid a possible headache. :) Thanks M&M!

You are certainly welcome! It really was a great cruise. I seriously only had 2 complaints...the soda card and the photo gallery. Other than that, NCL is fantastic, I loved the Pearl and would gladly sail her again.

In case anyone is interested, I have done a member review on the Pearl. Check it out!

  18. Lets see if I understand this all. If I buy my soda card before I get on the ship it is cheaper than buying it on the ship. Right?

Also they will only give you one small glass at a time. I can't use my own big cup and tell them to fill it up?

I also can not get more than one glass in the restruants?

I thought the idea was UNLIMITED? But from what you are all saying that is not true.

Anyone else think the whole thing is crazy?

    Just my opinion. Vicki

Hi Vicki...Im not sure what the poster meant exactly on the 3 sodas, but I usually drink about that many at each meal and the waiter had no problem refilling my glass over and over. Now....If I wanted to take me coke to my room...they WOULD NOT give me the rest of the can. I would have to come back down for a refill. No, you cannot use your own cup and yes the cups are small....about 1/2 can fits in the glass.

The portion about the charge...let me be clear on what I originally posted...basically...we got screwed. They advertised one price, most people have posted that they still got the 5.95 per day charge on their sailing, but we did not and we also got tacked on with gratuity. However buying it online comes in handy because you avoid the POSSIBILITY of being incorrectly charged by buying it online, but technically, you should be able to walk on board and buy the soda card at the advertised price and not have to pay autogratuity. But I just wanted people to be aware of the situation so they can confront it head on and decide how they want to handle it IF it should happen to them. Or at least that is what I was hoping to do.

Star7228...good idea on buying it ahead of time. I will do this from now on. I just had no clue I would have any problems buying it on the ship and of course, the finance guy pretended he didnt understand my english  when I confronted him on the charge. Live and learn.

  19. I didnt get bottled water on my cruise, but I am pretty sure that on the Pearl they charged you for bottled water because I saw them at the gangway selling them to those getting off the boat.

I hate diet coke too, but I cant live without soda and want the convenience so diet coke it was all 9 nights for me. On St. Lucia, I found a place that sold cans of diet pepsi and I just couldnt wait....$2.00 for one can! Robbery...but worth every drop. That was the best $2.00 diet pepsi I ever had! LOL!
