  1. My parents started in the 80's and dad died on a ship in 2008.  They loved cruising.   They stopped at diamond plus!  My first royal cruise was with them In 2005.  I had a celebrity before that. After new system I got 8 points for a 5 night in room with nephew and on serenade in 2011 as a solo traveler I only got 7.  Doesn't make sense, but since then it is almost right for each cruise!

Whatever the rights and wrongs of all this, the story has hit the headlines in a big way, and a lot of readers are going to perceive NCL in a very poor light, as the resulting publicity has some very negative connotations. I also wonder how other cruise lines would respond to a similar situation.

I would hope the same way!  They can't wait for those with no respect for the time of others.  The fear of being left has to be real!

ALL of the news reports are simply the internet echo chamber.

The local coast guard portion was CLAIMED during the couples original face time with a TV station.  There has been no second report of this being true.  In fact, one poster here who was on the ship watching the tenders saw nothing like a coast guard type boat approach the ship.

    It's called embellishing the story.

The more I read the less sorry I get. And they insinuate that ncl has abandoned them.  That said, there is video of them on a boat that is not regularly for passengers, no guard rails, heading somewhere.

They sure are getting plenty of video!

Yes, and how were they going to get onto the ship? Someone earlier in the thread posted a video of how the harbor pilot has to jump to a rope ladder from the boat to the ship. People who according to these sob story news stories are all older and disabled? If one of them fell into the ocean, that would be a real lawsuit.

That is for harbor pilot and quick trip to bridge.  How high above water is door we use at ports?  Some ships a low as 10 feet.above water line.   Think how high the harbor pilot ship usually is snd then how high rope ladder is and realize how far above the door we come and go from at ports!

I can’t go along with this either. The cruise lines sell so so many overpriced and over crowded excursions based on this scare tactic. Although rare, there have been reports of cruise sponsored excursions missing the ship. At some point due to operational necessity or even cost considerations, they will absolutely leave an excursion group behind. Yes the cruise line will pick up the tab for transportation, and if lucky may even provide a small amount of compensation. But someone’s vacation will no doubt be ruined. There’s always some risk to everything we do. And I certainly don’t blame anyone for not taking the “safest” option. But if I limited myself to only cruise line excursions then I wouldn’t be cruising at all.

That is a choice you make.  My.brother does too.  I chose to not have to worry and pay a few dollars more, I'm on vacation!

This is why we only take the more expensive Norwegian tours, instead of booking local tours. It clearly says if you are not back by a certain time, you can not get on the boat. If they had been on a tour booked by Norwegian the boat would have waited for them.

I don't know how I feel about this. The guidelines are pretty clear. Their tour guide should have been careful to have them back in time, and they should have been paying close attention to the the time. I don't know in reality how easy it would have been for NCL to send a boat back for them.

One of the news reports say the local coast guard was bringing them to shop and NCL said they had to get to Next port.....

    IGNORE THE % OFF.

IGNORE THE "BUY ONE GET ONE % OFF"

    IGNORE *ALL* "SALES".

IGNORE what anyone else has paid for the package unless they're on YOUR sailing.

If you're interested in the package, put it in your cart and look at the total.  Is that amount worth it to you?  If so, buy it.  If not, don't.  Rinse, repeat.

Best advice as royal math is fun to watch.  Only way to get real price is in your cart and divide it out.

If it is the 4 day leaving Athens on 13th June, then according to Celestyal’s website, it will be on their new Discovery. The Journey is doing the 7 day itineraries at that time.

I saw that, maybe need a younger ta!

  9. Through my usual group travel agency, we are scheduled on Celestyal Journey around June 13th.  We stop at mykinos, Santorini and Ephesus with another short one.  I've read that journey is now discovery, but TA says he hasn't heard yet....anybody know anything?

I understand your frustration, but at the same time, I'm sure those people who are relaxing and enjoying the cool water are thinking "who is this dude banging into everybody trying to swim laps while we're just chilling listening to the pool band? Somebody help this guy learn how to Google the word 'vacation'. " 😁

There are frustrating things we all deal with, but their frustrations are no less valid than your own. I would guess you'd have better luck on a cruise line that was less oriented towards party/family.  RCCL and Carnival pools are definitely more oriented that way. It's not a good thing or a bad thing. It's just a thing.

One of my non royal cruise had one od those lap pools with flowing water.   By the time I figured it out, cruise.was over!

  11. I am probably wrong person to respond.  I refuse hand sanitizer and always prefer washing hands.  I avoid antibiotics and believe our bodies learn to fight what they are exposed to.  So with that, I don't just jump in a hot tub if it doesnt look or smell clean or temp high enough.  I don't take baths because I don't understand how you can be clean after you sit in dirt you just washed off.  I swim in lakes and oceans and decide to live life with as few phobias as possible. If I'm tired and hot tub us really hot, I get in, of not a hot shower it is.

Our only RCI cruise so far was in 2019,a near 3 week repo cruise on Quantum, for a while I did get C&A emails but they seem to have stopped,we are on Anthem next month, our cruise record shows no previous cruises & obviously no points,I was beginning to think our cruise was too long ago but reading this thread makes me realise different!😎

Take seapass to c&a desk and they can add it back in.

C&A points are based on how the room is booked, not who actually stays in the room.  If it was booked as double, you will not get the extra solo point, regardless if only you stayed in the room.

Can't have your cake (KSF discount) and eat it too (extra solo point).

To be clear, I wad booked as a solo traveler.   My brother wanted a ocean view balcony.   While on phone with royal caribbean their agent suggested I move up to same part of ship, add $800 to my cost and it would not affect solo status.  It was kids sail free.  I.spent 800 more, my brother paid the same and I even ended up paying for his sofa package.  If I had been told,.wouldn't havr given up points

Until Jan 1, 2003 it was 1 credit per cruise no matter the stateroom category or length of cruise.

After Jan 1, 2003, an extra credit was given for cruises of 12 days or longer.

After Jan 1, 2004, an extra credit was given for cruises in a JS or better.

    Conversion 21.01.11

Conversion from old cruise credits to cruise points:

    If credits were 1-4, points = credits * 7 + 1

    If credits were 5-7, points = credits * 7 + 3

    If credits were > 7, points = credits * 7 + 13

    so your 1 credit * 7 + 1 = 8.

POINTS make much more sense than days.  So for my 2011 cruise that was before double points but after switch so I'm just sort of sol on that one.  They refused my double points on another cruise because for booking purposes, on a kids sail free cruise my nephew was in my room.  Never even walked in.  And they used that to deny.  So they gave me emerald early!  Whoopy!

Thanks for clearing that part up!

Below is the conversion C&A used for the credit conversion when this was done in 2012.

Crown & Anchor changed from cruise credits to days credits using the following conversion.

    1-4 - cruise credits x 7 plus 1 extra

    5-7 - cruise credits  x 7 plus 3 extra

    8+   -cruise credits  x 7 plus 13 extra

So, I have a 5 night Bermuda from NJ in 2007.  I got 8 points as that is only one before change!  Their math is always been a mystery to.me.

  16. I had just talked myself out of getting this on my 11 night Jewel OTS Southern Caribbean cruise when I logged in to find it at $66.99.  Subtract $9.99 from that because if I don't get that, I get soda package and that is a really good deal compared to what they usually charge.  I am paying just a bit more for this package then I did for 7 nights a few weeks ago on Harmony!

Now wondering if I should get a dining package!
