  1. Thanks once again to everyone...we have been shoveling periodia;;y all day. The totals were lower and the streets remained pretty clear....I think we had 10" but it came gradually so it all helped the cleanup here in NJ?NY area...Looks like we can get to the airport tomorrow and it looks like our flight will be on time...and we can get to the FL sunshine...and we fnially got our cabin assignment...so we are not homeless for the cruise...LOL

    Thanks again and everyone!!!!

  2. LOL - I'm happy to send as much snow as anyone wants too. Due for 2' at the last call :(

Good luck with your flights. I sure hope it all goes well for you (yn). Thankfully you have leeway and, hopefully, it is all over and cleaned and you get out with no issues and travel safely.

I just hope it stops in time---if the flight is on we will be there---even if I have to tie our pups to pull a sled:) They are less than 10 pounds each so it might take a while LOL

  3. Thanks for the well wishes ---we are about 25 miles out of NYC... so let's hope we can get the roads cleared and planes can come in by thursday because right now Wednesday looks like 12 inches for us...If anywhere in the US can be plowed to get to an airport NYC area can do it...if the snow ends early enough. Thanks for the prayers we may need them:) They are saying that there may be another weekend storm so the sooner the better to leave.

  4. Who would ever think here it is spring and we might get snowed in...we did everything as we should...we booked a flight 2 days before our cruise on Saturday to FLL...and now it looks like we may have to fly in the day of. if our flight is cancelled..OH NO! Hopefully we will only get only a few inches but they are saying possibly close to a foot of snow on Wednesday and we leave Thursday... I hope it comes early enough for the plows to clear the airports...I am crossing my fingers and toes that it all blows out to sea and living in the NYC area we can get out--- good luck to everyone travelling!!!

  5. Thank you for the well wishes...getting excited. We leave on Thursday and we hope to gt away from another possible bit of snow....the last time we sailed on HAL was a very long time ago, for our honeymoon 39 years ago.on the Volendam out of NY. So I don;t think we will get any upgrades, especially not to a suite, we are not HAL regulars, ....but it is nice to dream but those things don't happen to us and that is fine, Just getting my ducks in a row for the trip --- Thanks again everyone, if you have any tips when we board we will take all the help we can get to make this cruise smooth sailing.

  6. Thank you everyone for the input and the nice wishes...what I have decided to do was to print some blank tags to have with me and then see if I get more info regarding cabin assignement I can always re-print new ones at the hotel... I didn't want to open my check in luggage, I may never be able to close it again:) So, maybe since I will be at the W for a couple of days...if I don't get my cabin numbers... I can make the sacrifice and shop in FL and just buy a new outfit to stick in my carry-on LOL

  7. We have a guaranteed cabin on 3/24 on the New Amsterdam....quick question...we will be arriving in FLL on 3/22--- so I will be packing this weekend. Should I wait to print my luggage tags...since no cabin has been assigned yet or does it not matter. I know on other cruises the tags are colored coded by deck and if you do not have the deck/cabin info it delays when you get your luggage and if that is the case I can pack clothes for dinner in my carry on and I can wait and print them at the hotel if that helps. But if there is no reason I would prefer putting all of my clothes in my checked in luggage. Please guide me if you can...I was hoping I would get a room assignment by this weekend but....who knows. Still tons of cabins available.

  8. Thank you all for the info...I doubt I will get the call I don't think this TA will get the info and know what to do with it:(. I wish I could have used a TA of our choosing but we could not---or if we could have used HAL but since we had to use our airline points we had to use their services but that is OK we booked on a whim and we know we will have Ocean view and we will more importantly be on a cruise ---it will be our Anniversary trip and we sailed on HAL for our honeymoon 39 years ago in an inside cabin with single beds lol---so no matter what cabin we have we will have a great time. I believe it's the vacation and who you share it with....the cabin is just the room.

  9. One other quick question we had to book through TA to use our points...I was told on other cruises with other cruise lines...upsells/changes could only be made with the TA...Is that the case with HAL---they would never contact us directly even though in our reservation it said we would consider upgrades would it would have to come through TA if upsells were offered? I don't think we would change but one never knows what would be offered.

  10. I have booked a guaranteed Ocean View cabin on Nieuw Amsterdam- sailing the end of March. we have not sailed on HAL in ages but have done guaranteed cabins in the past with other lines and every line is different. So I have read a lot on the boards to find out more about cabin assignments. with HAL.. and I read many who have sailed with HAL that within 2-3 weeks you may see your cabin #.

Since we are now about 3 weeks away and to add to my excitement I have begun checking for our room assignment. As of last night, since I had no cabin assignment yet, I looked to see what was still available, it appeared there were still 13 cabins for sale in Ocean view category so I assumed it must be one of those. I went onto the website tonight and all of the Ocean View cabins now show as sold out??? Is that an indication that we would see our cabin assignment and that they pulled them off for that reason? Is it possible for 13 cabins to sell overnight and I know the inside cabins are gone as well but those have been sold out for a while. So is this how HAL does it... pull a group to assign??? Any info would be appreciated

  11. Thank you!!! One other quick question I used miles for this trip...and when I booked the trip the agent never asked me size of table--- if I call HAL will they add that on or will I have to go though the United agent. I usually go through the cruise line directly so I am not sure...or if a table size was not requested do they usually put you at a larger table?

  12. I can say I usually in most things like to be first,,,but when it comes to dinner we always like to go second seating. If we are at the sail away we do not like to rush to dinner but rather enjoy the first sunset, we like to wait for dinner and then go to the activities, the night seems to go by quicker for us ..and at home we usually eat later but not usually 8 but by 7 pm...but we do tend to eat later. So 2nd seating falls into what we normally do. However, having said all of that I just booked my first HAL cruise on Nieuw Amsterdam for March 24th and I just read somewhere that if you eat at 8PM you miss the shows. I am assuming they are talking about the show in the theater. Do they only give 1 performance??? Should I consider a change to early seating???

We have sailed on many different cruise lines and some offer 2 shows, some only one and there are benefits to eat early I just need a bit of guidance to how it works on HAL...you see I am not really a newbie to HAL either and I kind of lied I have been on HAL but that was 39 years ago on our honeymoon cruise and a few things have changed along the way:)

If you have any tips or any other suggestions I would gladly listen to them...I love to learn from those that would love to share.
