  1. No, I was just saying that sometimes I come across a cheap fair only to find that it's not that great of a deal once you add your 3rd and 4th persons.

By booking 2 rooms your points would add up faster, too, correct?

If you are talking about the C&A points, the answer is no. Each passenger gets their own points, no matter who books and pays for the cabin.

  2. Will it have less people per square foot even after the dry dock? I'm a little concerned that 81 new cabins might tip over the NOS into being crowded.

This is what you have now:

    Dream 3646 passengers 128,250 GRT

    Navigator 3114 passengers 138,279 GRT

    After additional cabins

    Navigator 3276 passengers

370 less passengers in a ship about 8% bigger.

  3. They can't fill the ships as it is now another reason for people to look elsewhere to spend their vacation dollars. I don't even smoke that much just an occasional cigar and yes I smoked them on the balcony never when anyone was around but its getting so ridiculous. Yell at me if you want but we have almost 20 cruises between Carnival and RCI I am sure there more people just like me that wont post this for fear of getting flamed, guess we will stick toward Carnival or book AI beach vacations.

That's funny. As per the last 10-K report through 12/31/12, RCCL is sailing at 104.4% capacity. I don't think they are having too much of a problem with bookings.

  4. The Fuccillo Kia store here in Greece, NY is running the promotion the entire month of September...buy or lease any new Kia and you get the cruise. While talking with Mr FUccillo he said that 3/4 of the ship was full with customers from the Florida store, so evidently his promotion there didn't fall too flat in Florida. And both days I was in the Greece store it was packed.

I see on Royal Caribbeans web page that they offer a transfer from about 12 different cities/towns on the west coast (from Tampa, Sarasota, Venice, Ft Myers, Naples etc)..wondering if anyone has looked into that and what the cost may be per person?

Disagree with you on that. By the figures he advertises in our local paper, then less than 1/2 of the people that bought in May & July are taking the cruise. When you run a promo in one month (May) and it doesn't get the results you want and have to run it again in July with the puffery advertisement that it went so good that you are running it again for people that missed out the first time and claim you have sent your side-kick to Miami to see about maybe needing to charter another ship and then finally, instead of running the same promotion a 3rd time locally, you need to fill the ship from sales in NY so you don't face a penalty, that is falling flat. I am willing to bet he doesn't run this promo again

  5. Sorry, I don't understand... the original post and subsequent posts say it was only during May 2013, unless I missed something..

I live in the city where the original offer was done. As I have said in previous posts, I feel the promotion fell so flat that he had to run the promotion again in July here in Cape Coral and it sounds by the most recent posts, he must of been still short and needed to fill the ship any way he could so he wouldn't have to pay the penalty for sailing w/o a full ship. The original offer did not include transportation either.

  6. Is her job so important she can't get a few days off during the holidays? I don't know when this cruise was booked, but obviously a bit ago. There's still 3 1/2 months yet till you go.

There are a lot of jobs that are very difficult, if not next to impossible to get time off around the Christmas holidays. My DD and I are just 2 examples of that problem. In addition, why do you think it is any of your business to ask about her job and it's importance??

  7. Curacao is a distant foriegn port under the Passenger Vessel Service Act so it does not apply so I would be acting Carnival to explain there policy. I did see in the cruise contract were disembarking at another port is not allowed.

    From Carnival's cruise contract:

    (e) Guest acknowledges that, for a voyage commencing in a United States port for a round-trip voyage via one or more United States ports, Guest must complete the voyage and disembark at the embarkation port. Failure to do so may result in a fine or penalty being imposed by the United States Customs Service or other governmental agency. In consideration for the fare paid, Guest agrees to pay any such fine or penalty imposed because of Guest's failure to complete the voyage.

Your are leaving from a US port, but as 2e of their contract says, you must complete the voyage IF IT IS VIA ONE OR MORE US PORTS. If your cruise is on the Breeze, you are not visiting another US port (GT, DR, Curacao & Aruba). Call back and tell them they need to follow their own contract. You are allowed to leave the ship early.

  8. There are certain laws governing cruises that does not allow passengers leaving at another port of call other that the port of embarkation. Fines are accessed on passengers for this an Carnival will pass those along to the guest.

You are thinking of the PVSA. This only pertains to passengers boarding in one US city and debarking in another US city w/o stopping at a distant foreign port. The OP does not state where they are leaving from, but does say they want to get off at a Caribbean port. If they came back and told us what the 2 ports are it would help.

  9. I surely don't. I only know about what others tell me or show pictures of me when I was a toddler. I don't recall not being able to go swimming when I was wearing a diaper.

I hope you have never had children because you completely missed what my post was about. It has nothing to do if they remember things while they are growing up until they can remember, but all these things like playing in a pool, having a book read to them, working on puzzles etc. all help them develop life skills. Just because you don't think playing in a pool is necessary doesn't make it so.

    Gregg

  10. Lets be honest here, the "pool" for the toddler is for the entertainment of the parents. The toddler doesn't even know what a pool is or if that he/she is missing an opportunity to splash in the water on a cruise ship. Like two years from now, the toddler will remember the "pool".

Last time I went in a hot tub was just before I saw a dad dipping the diaper clad kiddo in and out like a tea bag.

You're right. Using that premise, when a baby is born and brought home, the parents should keep the baby in a bedroom and just give it enough food and change their diapers until they are about 5 years old, since before that they will not remember anything:eek:.

  11. Interesting, since in the earlier ads he stated that it was from Monday to Friday. Also, the subsequent ads might have one to believe that the July promotion was for a separate cruise. So, as I read the various posts, the May ads did not produce enough buyers; hence, the July buyers will be on the same ship. I am always skeptical of those who are loquacious and loud.

The ads are correct. A Monday to Friday cruise would be a 4 night cruise. It sounds as you have seen the ads where he makes it sound like is was so great he had to send his sidekick to Miami to research other ships. Our local paper has ads each month where he lists how many cars were sold the previous month and the total for May, if correct and EVERYBODY bought the cruise, he still would have been short.

    Gregg

  12. Folks, it is a five night cruise on an old ship with few balconies.

Actually, it's only a 4 night cruise, and IMHO, the May promotion was nowhere near what he expected that he had to run the promotion again in July so he wouldn't have been stuck with an additional charge of maybe $100K for sailing without a full ship. As somebody else said, I would have rather had the cost of the cruise deducted from the car purchase as I wouldn't have wanted to pay between $400-$450 per couple before I even cruised.

  13. Last time I did the math they were already in the lead on GRT and berths. They do it with fewer ships though. Since all of their new ships are larger than Carnival's this gap will continue to extend even if they don't over take in quantity.

Edit: According to the cruise infographic for the first half of 2013 they are behind on passenger numbers still though because Royal Caribbean does longer cruises (a sign of a high quality clientele). http://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/9540-2013-cruise-industry-infographic.html

Found something strange with that graph. They show RCI with 23 ships. I count 21 after Monarch was transferred. Also, in regards to the passenger numbers, that is why I stated passenger sea days which I feel is a better barometer with regards to customers. (RCI has a 3,000 passenger ship that does 7 day cruises while Carnival has a 2,000 passenger ship that does 3/4 day cycles lets them claim 4,000 passengers sailed per week).

  14. There is a lot of give and take between Carnival & RCI cruisers (just read some of the threads on these forums). By the end of 2016 each line will have 25 ships (unless Majesty goes bye-bye or something else not announced happens). By then Royal will have more GRT, lower berths and more passenger sea days, if they already don't have those numbers, and will overtake Carnival as the largest cruise line in the world. Let's hope they can keep coming out with innovative ships that it seems the current cruising public wants.

  15. Lol, could you imagine?! :p

I will post any new ones here as they post them. I am really eager to find out what this milestone is. There is a 50/50 chance its about Quantum. Maybe they are going to announce a 3rd Quantum class ship being ordered?

    http://www.meyerwerft.de/en/meyerwerft_de/medien/presseticker/pressemitteilung_detail_10818.jsp

This was announced back in May confirming a 3rd ship has been ordered, unless I am reading it wrong and it is only for an option.

  16. I posted this just for fun, but I believe, all other things being equal, that it is essentially a scam. As I am sure most of you are aware, there are very few balconies on this ship. When I say scam, I do not mean that you will not receive a short cruise in an inside cabin for buying a car, but who would otherwise book this ship.

Thousands of people per week, that's who!

  17. I do not think it is much of a deal at $500 per couple. RCI could barely get $150pp last year during December.

So having to buy a car to pay the same or more is no bargain.

In March he "gave away" $1000 to anyone buying a car. This deal is significantly less.

Plus it probably won't get the double points if rci has the december celebration this year.

The $500/couple that I quoted it would cost included tips, parking and cost to drive from SW FL where the dealership is located and I am sure the $150/pp last year did not include the approx. $99/pp taxes. In the long run, it still isn't a great deal unless you are really in the market for a car and then it might be a nice perk.

  18. I wonder how he will decide who gets inside rooms, ocean view rooms and the few balcony rooms.

I thought about just going in pretending to be interested in taking the deal to find out about options. If I had to guess it would be handled possibly in 1 of 2 ways. #1- First come, best cabin, or #2 - Must pay to upgrade to better cabins. I just might kill some time over the weekend and find out.

    Gregg

  19. Another thought. Anyone who gets a cruise will have to be able to go the specific dates Kia has reserved Majesty. Also, does the offer include airfare?

Buyers resposible for their own transportation. Since the dealership is only about a 3-4 hour drive from Miami, and most buyers will be from this general area, I would guess most would drive. As I said in an earlier post, it is not that great of a deal. I would rather just have the value deducted from the car if I was interested.
