  1. The last line says it all..... For the record, when you say things like " the food was down right awful", "disgusting", "Mattress was wire and springs" it sure does not help with the believability factor. Who was the 1%? Happy cruising!

What baffles me is why what anybody else says would bother you.

  2. Specialty restaurant hahaha. I don't think anyone eats at the rock wall or merry go round. Next thing you know you are going to tell me that JR tastes better. The seats that you sit at are pretty darn close to same regardless of getting it at the counter (faster btw) or sitting down and paying for it.

Yes, more of a specialty restaurant than Guy's. How's the chili, grilled cheese, patti melt, chicken sandwich, etc. at Guy's? I haven't eaten at a Guy's so I won't comment on which tastes better to me.

I guess next you're going to tell me that you haven't complained in the passed about having to pay for thing (such as the rock climbing wall and carousel) that you will not use, in your CRUISE FARE. I wasn't trying to say that you eat at the rock climbing wall or carousel and you know it.

I would probably enjoy a burger at Guy's, but my wife would have no interest. But we would both pay the same amount for our cruise. This means she is paying for Guy's. She gets no option to not pay. With JR's that's not an issue she doesn't go so she doesn't pay for it.

  3. Now that is a new one, it only costs at JR if you eat there. Lol. That is one up on it does not cost for a burger (greasy as it is) it's a seating charge.

No, JR's is definitely a specaity restaurant that you don't pay for unless you eat there. And as FLSteve11 pointed out Guy's is a counter near the buffet where you can order a burger, that you've already paid for in your cruise fare. You know like the rock climbing wall and carousel that you complain about not using but still have to pay for.

  4. Sort of. Really Guys, Blue Iguana, Tandoor and the Mongolian Wok are just extensions of the Buffet area. You can put a separate name on it, and try to make it sound like a separate dining area, but really that's what they are. None of them are sit-down restaurants like the others, where you get a full menu versus a couple of items. You basically get your food and sit in the buffet area or around the pool deck.

You realize it's heresy to point that out don't you? Don't forget that these buffet areas aren't free either. You pay for them with your cruise fare, if you use them or not. Sabor, Johnny Rockets and Giavonni's are options that don't cost a penny if you don't eat there.

If someone wants to do a comparison with Guy's it should be with the Boardwalk hot dog stand. Where you can get a variaty of hot dogs and sausage.

  5. Or maybe, just maybe it could be as simple as giving someone options. We cruise with many who party late and and sleep in. Being able to select once a day makes it easier for everyone, them, the room steward and maybe even old man Occam (either with or without his razor);).

I for one am glad to see this option. It's such a hassle remembering to put the do not disturb sign out when I've been out partying late and want to sleep in. I sometimes even forget to turn the dead bolt knob and lock the balcony door. Those cabin attendants can be relentless in the morning trying to get into the cabin to make my bed.

  6. I thought the thread was on rising prices. Do need to restrict it to 3 ships? Was the Sunshine mentioned already? Cherry picking works both ways. Eye roll and a wink.....

You told the OP that comparing a 3 year old Celebrity ship with a new Carnival ship was not logical. Then proceeded to tell him he should be comparing the new Carnival ship that sails out of Florida with a new Royal ship that sails out of New York. I say your idea is not logical when the OP has already compared the new Carnival ship with an new Royal ship that both sail out of Florida.

Was Sunshine mentioned in the thread? Yes, by one poster who said their Epic cruise was cheaper. I don't know what that has to do with the OP's comparison.

  7. I did notice that but thanks for pointing it out. Maybe you can then explain why Anthem is so much more and in so many more ways than just cruise fare. Actually, it is a rhetorical question, the answer is home port plays into pricing (supply and demand). The reason I chose to mention Anthem is she sails from the same area as Sunshine (New York and New Jersey, bought you get the point), so with significantly less ships, the price increases (and in the case of Anthem...dynamically) add in other factors (the nickel and dining RCCL does) and it makes my case even more so. Wink right back at you.....

i don't know why you're mentioning Sunshine and New York. OP is comparing Vista, Harmony and Reflection sailing out of Florida. And it is a eye roll not a wink.

  8. I am a big fan of Carnival. Looking to book a cruise for Feb2017. But I have found the comparable prices across the different cruise lines Carnivals prices have been higher for the most part. Was comparing Vista balcony to an ocean view Balcony on RCI Harmony of the Seas both lines newest ship. And the Harmony was lower by several hundred dollars. Checked Celebrity and for the same price they included drink package for 2 plus a $300 on board credit. WOW no brainier there. I love Carnival but money talks. Now we just have to decide between Harmony of the Seas and Celebrity Reflection. No drink package on RCI but it does have $250 on board credit. Of Vista does have $125 OBC. But that still is weak compared to the others. We got a better deal on our Princess cruise in October too. Plus a $400 OBC. Are people not shopping around? Carnival has become outrageous price wise. Not sure when we will sail again after our April cruise. Too bad too we just turned platinum.

While true, that is nota fair comparison, a brand new ship high in demand compared to a 3 year old ship. Using your logic, compare the Vista to Anthem,

Maybe you failed to notice that OP also compared pricing with Harmony and still came out several hundred dollars ahead. I believe Harmony is even newer then Anthem.

  9. First of all, glad to hear you made it through that nightmare!

Second, we think you are well within your rights to contact RCL, and 'DEMAND Compensation', you booked through their service! (of course that is up to you, everyone is different)

No excuses are acceptable for your treatment, by the crew about your lost luggage which RCL is responsible for because you booked through them, and for the absurd treatment you received by the Dr. on the ship!

In our opinion RCL at least should offer you a 'free' cruise!

    Good luck.:)

Just curious, at what point do you believe personal responsibility kicks in?

  10. So we went from going to wristbands to having both options. So now we are assuming that Carnival will provide both options at the same time. So they will now have to maintain the old system as well as provide the infrastructure for the wristbands. Seems like a really expensive proposition that will probably filter right down to the cost of the cruise. I can just picture some very enterprising children deciding to switch their wristbands with other children they have met on the ship. Will make for very interesting traffic jams when they try to exit or enter at ports and the kids they switched with are nowhere near the debarkation station when this happens.

Right! Suddenly, kids will decide to switch wristbands but it never occurred to them to switch S+S cards.

  11. CCL stock continued it's climb today, up another 60 cents a share, and it is up 19% in the last month. That's a nice climb. Apparently investors are expecting a positive announcement.

"Bulls Want to Cruise With Carnival:"

    http://finance.yahoo.com/news/bulls-want-cruise-carnival-173408210.html

Maybe the announcement is that NCLH is buying CCL. Norwegian is up $1.09 today and up about 30% in the last month. Closing price per share above CCL.

  12. or a Shopping Mall (or the seas). or ice rink.

Exactly, my point. Some posters on this thread have commented in the past about malls, amusement parks and Broadway type shows. I like to point out things that are the same "only different", such as waterparks and movie theaters.

All the cruise ships I've been on have stores to try to sell you things.

I have to say I don't see a real difference if the on board shops are all in line with bars and or restaurants interspersed, or if they are set up like a department store with bars and or restaurants interspersed around them.

Most of the ships I've been on have things to keep people amused. Such as water slides, flow riders, rope courses, rock climbing walls, mini-golf, skating rinks, etc.

My earlier post shouldn't be taken as a put down oF Carnival. It is more to point out that while some will criticize one cruise line for something they are blinded when another does the same type of things.

  13. This is the latest news that I just heard today from ta...

    April 30 2016 is inaugural

    February 2016 are sea trials

Vista will not be a new design from outside, just a bigger breeze

Inside will be even better than breeze

    Ocean views "vista"

    IMAX theater, first at sea

    Largest waterpark at sea

    Some Renderings in November

    Thank you

So Carnival is going to have the waterpark of the seas and the IMAX theater. To use another posters favorite line, not what I would call an improvement to the cruising experience. If I want to go to a waterpark, IMAX, or Broadway show, I'll do it near home.

  14. By the way, I guess my rose cited glasses are not unique. You might want to jump over to the royal main board, it appears most there echo my thoughts.

Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app from my iPhone

I've been on the Royal boards. And from what I've read, it appears that you must have gray colored glasses when your over there. Most complaints I see are about having to wear the bracelet all the time not due to any concern about being tracked by them. And even the wearing issue is not valid, because the bracelets are an option. So no one who doesn't want to wear it, is forced to. Also, though I haven't verified this yet they look to be removable. So as you yourself have posted in the past "options are a good thing".

  15. Talk about big brother watching over you. This is not my idea of improving cruising

Yes, this post really added to the thread also. As someone already pointed out, if they want to keep track of you, it can be done with your room key. So your comment about "big brother watching over you" is just your way of making a negative comment about Rcl without coming right out and saying it.

  16. That's weird because I was going to say the same thing about 2nd rate off broadway productions. If I want to see Hairspray or bluer mans group or whatever they have I will go to Broadway....much better. BTW, the nichel dime is my line....and it still applies

I was pointing out that on one hand you have free verses fee for hamburgers. On the other hand you have free verses fee for entertainment. I actually would pay to see some of the bands offered on Carnival Live. I only put in the part about staying on land to show how inane it sounds when somebody says the same thing when talking about options that are offered by other cruise lines. No one is forcing anybody to do something they don't want to do, but isn't nice to have that option? And I'm not going to argue about the quality involved between the different entertainment offerings.

Great to see your Rangers knock out the Penguins. Sorry, but I have to root against them in the next round. I don't like the Rangers, but I hate the Penguins.
