  1. Hello! I'm getting married on the Liberty of the Seas in exactly 80 days. We're marrying while in port and then using the cruise as our "wedding cruise". Has anyone had any, or know anyone who has, experience with the Royal Caribbean wedding coordinators?

I'm letting my fiancé handle most of this because he's been on about 10x as many cruises as I have, but curiosity is getting the best of me - along with anxiousness since we haven't heard from them yet.

Hey, inkykitty, I'm gettting married at sea on the Independence of the Seas on February 2, 19 days from now! If you had asked me day before yesterday, I wouldn't have known the exact date, only that it was sometime during our cruise that leaves on January 31.

We signed our contract in May 2014, then didn't hear anything until October 20, when a Royal Romance rep contacted us to start arranging our marriage license from the Bahamas. Once all that was taken care of, we didn't hear anything else until our Wedding Specialist emailed us on November 18 with an information sheet to fill out with choices for the music and other details. We returned that sheet the same day, and were supposed to get a call to go over it, but then we never heard anything back from her! Ever! I got worried just before Christmas and contacted the main Royal Romance number, and the person that answered the phone was really nice, but just referred us back to our specialist who was out of the office.

Finally, on January 12, we got an email from our new specialist who said the old one was no longer with Royal Caribbean. Yesterday we had a phone call with her where we chose the venue, wedding date and time, and went over the details on the information sheet we filled out. For someone that doesn't like waiting until the last minute, it was hard waiting, but I figure it will all work out in the end.

The details are probably a little different for an embarkation day wedding, but I still wouldn't expect to hear very much until pretty late in the process. Good luck and congratulations!

  2. Today we put the Royal Romance Wedding at Sea package on our credit card! I was going to say "today we paid for it" but we're going to be paying for it for a loooong time.

We booked the cruise itself while we were onboard the Freedom of the Seas earlier this year, so we were able to scout out possible locations. The chapel has no windows, so we didn't want to have the wedding there. We're hoping we'll be able to choose the Cloud Nine or Seven Hearts lounge when the time comes. The maximum number of people that will be there is 20, so there should be plenty of room.

Once we decided we wanted a very small wedding, the decision to get married at sea kind of followed along naturally. And since only Princess, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean do weddings at sea, our choices were narrowed down even more. We wanted connecting staterooms because of our young children, so Princess was out, and Celebrity just cost too much. So hello, Royal Caribbean!

Now I guess the waiting game begins! I'm looking forward to reading about everyone else's plans to pass the time.

    254 days to go....

  3. Passport centers (the places that process them, not the post office or courthouse that accepts the application) are busiest this time of year, and slowest in the late fall and around the Christmas holidays. The winter weather that closed down other government offices earlier this year also shut down passport operations, so that had the potential to add some extra processing time, too.

Each passport has a unique number, so your new one will be different.

  4. We are thinking about a shipboard wedding in 2015 while the ship is at sea. Has anyone done this on Royal Caribbean? I'm wondering how long it takes to get the official marriage certificate after the wedding.

The Princess website says it will take 8-10 weeks, and I'm wondering if the timeline is similar for RCI.

    TIA!
