  1. Hi, I did the Taieri Gorge train trip (for the second time), when on Pacific Dawn cruise in November.

booked through ship, and had a great time...as I have a handicap at present, being picked up by the train at the gangway , and returned to the gangway at the end of trip ..was a great help...the scenery is beautiful, the volunteers who are onboard are fantastic.

I would pay the extra for the convenience anytime..

    kind regards, Lorraine:):)

  2. Hi to the Tim Tam fanatics...here is a recipe from Arnotts

    Tim Tam Thickshake.

ice cream, Tim Tams and milk , blend until smooth...pour into tall glass and sprinkle with grated chocolate...

    yum..

they also have a new flavour Tim Tam out...Mint Crisp..

    kind regards, Lorraine:):)

  3. Crunchies are chocolate covered honeycomb in a bar about 6 inches x 1 inch x 1 inch.

Pollywaffles are marshmallow logs covered with a crunchy biscuit coating and covered in chocolate.

Violet crumbles are the aussie equivalent of crunchies.

Hi Eileen, I am a Tim Tam girl from way back, and in the bar section , don't forget Cherry Ripe.

  4. Did not seem to be a big rush on the TimTams, but the wooden Adorondak Chairs for $70 seemed to be drawing a crowd.

I was just practicing "dissertation avoidance therapy"!:p

Hi Tracie, gee that is a bargain for the chairs, they are ..aus $295.00

here for the Fan back and Cape Cod styles.

just got to love Tim Tams.

  5. It is on SMH. We read about it earlier today.

We also had this happen on Pacific Sky in March 2004. We were in the Movie Theatre at the time when the sirens went and the call was made "Man Overboard" - Nearly everyone in the theatre jumped the seats and ran out to run up on deck to see what was happening.

Hubby & I could not quite work out what was going on. The next morning the rumour mill started. It was a very similar story to the one that a previous poster wrote... perhaps we were on the same cruise.

Hi Mishym, yes it was probably the same cruise.

we were between Lifou and the Isle of pines at night..in the shipping channel.

it took the ship a while to slow down, and turn around carefully.because of the coral reefs everywhere.

people had been throwing the white plastic lounge chairs overboard. and the ship followed them back. sent out a small boat and found him clinging to one of the chairs...

  6. Hi all, I have been on board Pacific Sky when a man jumped overboard. he too was rescued alive.

the sad truth about these events are that the people involved are sick, suffering from depression or are blind drunk.

the man who jumped on my cruise had a medical condition (bi-polar), did not take his medications on the cruise, had a few too many drinks, argued with his girlfriend, and went overboard.

  7. We were on th March 12 Auckland to Sydney and our crossing was quite rough. We never need to take the Bonine we bring with us, but so glad we had it for this trip. Day one was very rough, day 2 was not as bad, but fairly bumpy... Have a great trip!!!

Hi ciera, we were on same cruise as you, but we only felt it a bit rough one day. that was after leaving the fjiords heading to Hobart.

We had such a good time we are going again next year.

    kindest regards, Lorraine:) :)

  8. ^^ She sure did ;) It was at the Isle of Pines. It was at the end of the day. We'd just gone back to the ship and all of a sudden we heard the alarms go off and the engines came on. We were thinking what's going on because there was still about an hour before we were due to leave. Next tihng someone was yelling over the loud speaker "BRACE, BRACE, BRACE" and then the ship moved sideways - straight into the coral reef!! They wouldn't tell us, but we assumed an anchor had slipped and they slowly drifted towards the reef without realising until it was too late. The captain had turned on the engines to try to get away but it was too late. Bit like the Titanic really LOL! We were confined to our cabins for the next 2 1/2 hours til they worked out what to do. Luckily for us the ships entertainer for that trip was Normie Rowe and he came out with his guitar and sang us some songs. Kept us un-bored ;) We were still stuck there the next day so we had 2 days at the Isle of pines, and luckily the ship wasn't damaged more than just some paint (can't say the same for the reef LOL!) and we were able to continue on the next day :) It's a great story!! Poor old Pacific Sky got such a bad reputation towards the end of it's days :( I still love her though :)

Hi there, we were also on board, and there seems to be an array of answers as to what exactly happened. like you we were told that the ship lost an anchor, and we drifted in toward the coral, the captain then went full forward to the sand to avoid the coral.....!!

On reading the reports on another site, it says......an engine failure.!!!

I remember when we reached Vila, security stopped people taking photos of the large scrapes along the side of the ship.

The pacific Sky was and always will be my favourite ship. not for her looks, but the great atmosphere . ( the things that happened later will be what people remember most unfortunately.)

thanks for the photos they were great..

    kindest regards, Lorraine

  10. Hi beginner,

be careful not to buy anything with seeds, tortoise shell or shells .

you should be given info in your cruise packet from P&O on quarantine restrictions. wooden articles are checked by the inspectors for borer etc , most after fumigation are O.K.

if in doubt about anything when you are getting off ship, declare it on the incoming card.. better to be sure than receive a fine.

    have a lovely cruise.

    kind regards, Lorraine:) :)

  11. Hi cruiser. I have always found Vila will accept Aussie dollars.

in New Caledonia, some places accept Aussie dollars, but most only take Pacific Francs. you can change your money on board the ship.

upon returning to change back to Aussie dollars (if you have any francs left) they will only accept paper money, no coins.so use them up.

New Caledonia is fairly expensive..... I only buy wines I can't buy anywhere else, or Lingerie I can't get in Australia.

    kindest regards, Lorraine:) :)
