  1. We took our 6 yr old grandson on this tour in March last year. He enjoyed it, but was bored about 1/2 way thru the tour.

They take you around some coral and a sunken ship. We saw fish, but not much more than you see snorkeling.

We will be in Cozumel next Friday and he has asked to play in the sand and climb the water inflatables - I'm looking at Paradise Beach or Mr Sanchos.

With the ages you have they may be bored too, unless they are really into submarines.

  2. I just got off the Carnival Miracle 9/16/17 and saw more people receiving handpays on this cruise than any of the 10+ previous cruises I've been on. I myself won $3,000 & $2,500 on video poker and various wins on slots ranging in $500 - $800. The casino was always packed and the "hot" slots were always full with people waiting to jump in a vacated seat.

  3. Glad I could help!

We were very apprehensive about leaving the ship, but I was determined to enjoy Jamaica - and we did! I did a lot of research and several emails to Carolyn about my concerns. They exceeded my expectations and everyone we encountered on our excursion were very courteous and helpful.

We usually do excursions on our own and not thru the ship because of the masses of people. We were the only people at the falls and tubing - it was so nice to take our time and do what we wanted, when we wanted.

I forgot to mention we did do some shopping - told Richard what we wanted to buy (coffee) and shop at Harley Davidson for the D & SIL. He was with us every stop in stores and we never felt in danger.

    I hope you enjoy Jamaica!

  4. Sorry for a late post here, but life, work and holidays have kept me busy!

We used Barrett Adventures for an excursion out of Montego Bay in October. There were 5 of us - me, husband, daughter, son-in-law, 5yr old grandson.

Due to Hurricane Matthew our port order was changed the day after we sailed. Carolyn was prompt to respond to my frantic email regarding the change in arrival!!

Richard met us at the port and was our driver for the day. He was really nice and the car was a newer model small suv. We did the Mayfield Falls/ Yardy tubing Adventure. It took almost an hour to get to the falls and then about 1 1/2 hrs to climb the falls. The water was high due to rain from Matthew but we took our time and enjoyed the falls. Our guide was Chicken and he was great! He carried/climbed with our grandson the entire time. Then we traveled about 10 minutes to the river site for river tubing. The young men there carried our tubes to the entry point and then swam as we tubed to help those who flipped or got stuck on the sides of the river. This took about 20 mins and then back down the mountain for lunch at a small outdoor place. We arrived back at the port with plenty of time to spare.

Notes: We did take our own bottled water and towels. You climb the falls barefoot, but will need water shoes for the tubing. We also took sandals to change into after tubing. At lunch there was no problem with paying in USD. There are not any bathroom facilities at the tubing area. The drive is long and some spots just dirt, pot holed road - they needed the 4 wheel drive closer to the top. A guy is available to take photos as you climb the falls and you can purchase a dvd from him of all the photos. We did purchase it and felt it was worth it.

Yes, I would use Barrett Adventures again when we visit Jamaica.

If you have questions, just ask.

  5. We have cruised both lines and they seem to cater to different groups of people. We have never been on the Royal, but have taken 3 cruises with Princess.

For our family cruises (ages 4yrs - early 50's) we choose Carnival. The water works on the larger ships, kids club and relaxed vibe are perfect for our group. Our most recent Carnival cruise we had an adult dinner at the steak house. During our meal they seated a couple in their 20's dressed in shorts, tank top and flip flops with swim suits underneath at a table next to ours. We were very surprised to see this at the specialty restaurant, but that's Carnival. There are lots of things we see on Carnival that we have never seen on Princess (passed out drunks and fights).

If we are cruising for just ourselves and our parents (50's - 70's), we take Princess and enjoy the ship and its amenities. The whole experience - staff, food and shows are so much better.

I say give Princess a chance and enjoy yourselves with a little less rowdy crowd.

  6. I know I am repeating after the others, but THANK YOU, THANK YOU for the detailed review. It was awesome and I loved all your pictures.

I am in the planning stages for this cruise in August 2018 - a 35th Anniversary trip. We have cruised 6 times in the Southern Caribbean and like you I book excursions through private tours. I appreciate all the details and especially the packing list. I am glad to have a better handle on "Country Club Casual", as we are not formal night people.

We are in the Houston area, so flying out of George Bush. Since the return flight sounds like the worst part, if you did it again would you stay the night in LA and then fly home the next day? Like you did at the beginning?

Is there anything you didn't get to do, that you wished you could have?

    Carrie
