  1. We saw a waiter from a previous cruise on another cruise once. He asked us to wait for a couple of minutes. When he came back he showed us the card I wrote 2 years prior thanking him for his service. That made me cry. I'm a big mush I guess.

ted1973, this is the best reply I’ve seen on CruiseCritic. Thank you.

  2. I had the same question last year. I found this highly informative, wonderfully entertaining, lengthy review by CC member Bimmer09, which contains his opinions (many of which are backed up by his great photographs) as well as many, many comments from other CC members.

You'll want to grab a beverage and block out some time to get through it - but it's well worth the read.

    Happy cruising,

    Kathryn

  3. It might depend on your itinerary. I've only taken two Celebrity cruises: during the S.E. Asia itinerary, the corridors and public rooms were muggy and warm, but on our Transatlantic cruise, the public areas were pleasantly cool, enough so that I needed a wrap most evenings.

Miched, that makes a lot of sense! Thanks for offering that tidbit. I think the HVAC system must have been overloaded on the Asia cruise - the ambient outdoor temperatures were up to 110F. Whew!

  4. We were on the Silhouette Transatlantic cruise this spring. I don't remember how often Murano served lunch during the TA - possibly three times? We went once, and enjoyed it very much. I ordered the mushroom risotto and a dessert soufflé, and they were easily the best things I ate on the cruise. It was a smaller menu than they offer for dinner, but there were still plenty of choices.

Just a couple of years ago I introduced Carol to the golden pipes of Sir Steve Perry and she was blown away by his voice (using the Houston Youtube recording). A singular singer!

We love San Francisco and dining there is always a pleasure. Have you eaten at Waterbar at all? Down by the foot of the Bay Bridge to Oakland?

A singular singer indeed! We attended a concert with their new lead singer, and he sounds uncannily similar. Carol came late to the Journey party, but there is plenty of time for her to catch up, and loads of people who will happily croon along with her.

We've not eaten at Waterbar, but we recently enjoyed spectacular burgers and the Bay Bridge light show while dining at her sister restaurant, Epic Steak, which is right next door. Here's a photo taken from our outdoor deck table in case you want to try something new on your next visit. (First time posting a photo, so I hope it works!)

  6. We were on the Millennium in January 2016. The Solarium was restricted to ages 18 & up except for an hour or so each day, which was family time. There are lots of quiet spaces to retreat, most of which are quite beautiful! Hope you enjoy your cruise.

  7. Norris, I happily discovered this thread recently. I am captivated by your lovely photos, fair-minded assessments of the ship's furnishings, staff, and venues, and of course your hilarious commentary.

Through this thread, I discovered your review of the Silhouette. My DH and I have taken only one X cruise, the Millennium in Jan 2016, and are eagerly anticipating boarding the Silhouette next month. What a treat to explore the ship before we board through the eyes of you and the other posters on that thread.

My bruiser of a Maine Coon cat is eagerly awaiting my nightly reading of the rest of the review - he enjoys long stretches slumbering on my lap, but he has lodged a request for you to cut the funny bits as his naps are disturbed when I laugh out loud. But I say carry on, my friend, and the cat's comfort be damned.

  8. How many formal nights did you have? Looks like the maximum is 2, regardless of cruise length

I didn't keep careful notes - we were traveling with others and had a fairly busy itinerary, but I'm pretty sure although I only remember 2, there were a total of 3 Evening Chic nights. We did eat in in a specialty restaurant one night, and that may have been on the last of the Chic nights.

  9. We will be on a 12 night cruise this fall. Am I to understand that there will now only be two nights that are even close to formal? I am probably one of the few who enjoys putting on a gown with my husband I a tux. Last time we did 12 nights there were three formal nights.

We were on a 14-night Celebrity cruise last January. On the Evening Chic nights, my husband wore his tux, and I wore an evening gown. It certainly wasn't required, but we rarely have a chance to dress like that, so for us it was fun (and a chance to see if we still fit into our wedding attire, 22 years later...). There was an eclectic mix of dining attire in the MDR and most people seemed to step it up a bit, even if just with accessories.

    Enjoy your cruise!
