  1. The Mixology 101 is the one I"d recommend. You will actually make the drinks....standing behind the bar like a bartender. We made and drank three full drinks....not just tasters. It was one of the best "alcoholic" events I've attended, at least I think it was :D

Thank you! I did a martini class on a Carnival ship in the Alchemy Bar last year and we had an absolute blast! I'm with a few different friends this cruise, so maybe I'll stick with that! :tropical-drink::whiskey-glass::cocktail:

  2. Anyone done the Novo Fogo Cachaça Tasting for $25?

If so, I have a couple questions. I know the cocktail is like a Mojito, which I love, but trying to decide between that and the Mixology 101 for a group of friends.

It reads: Samba up to the bar and discover the art of making the Brazilian national cocktail, the caipirinha, featuring Novo Fogo organic cachaça. You’ll receive your own caipirinha glass and cocktail kit to take home.

Is it worth the $25, and what exactly is the kit you get to take home?

  3. Thanks everyone. I'm looking forward to my Concierge Cabin, and I've wrapped up the comments that I will count on, and let you all know in about a year if I think it was worth it. Perhaps in a years time, there will be even more benefits!

    • The one thing I should point out is that since you have sailed Celebrity before, you should be a Classic member in the Captains Club. That means you should have been able to book a C2 for the same price you paid for you C3. C2s are generally in much better locations.

    • Embarkation was quick, we were called after the suites

    • The other positive is that you earn more Captain's Club points per night.

    • Embarkation luncheon is a nice benefit, so be sure to arrive early enough to enjoy it.

    • Canapés can be switched out! If you don't like the evening canapes you can ask your room steward to bring shrimp cocktail or a cheese/cracker tray instead.

    • The Concierge tote bag is significantly sturdier and more attractive than the flimsy regular tote.

    • The leather-like Seapass Card holder is very handy

    • We thought the binoculars were a silly idea ... until we used them several times. Turns out that was a useful bonus.

    • We DID enjoy the foot rests on the balcony. I also noticed a difference in the quality and thickness of the bath towels, and the robes.
  4. Ok, I've booked a C3 concierge cabin on Silhouette for January 2018. We haven't cruise Celebrity in 17 years, so it'll be all new to us anyhoo. We usually book Carnival, along with the Faster To The Fun package, and the concierge cabin seems to be like that, but even better.

I've been reading that it's really not a big deal, but a bottle of wine, bowl of fruit, daily delites, tote bag, key holder, welcome lunch, and priority check in & out seems worth the price I paid.

So let me hear your thoughts on it.

No need to bash me for cruising Carnival, just looking for opinions on Concierge cabins. BTW, I'm in cabin 1004 in case anyone has photos to share!! ;)

    Thanks!

  5. Yes, the seats are one in front of the other. Tall people are OK. Overweight may be a problem, depending on HOW overweight. You can see in the photo we're all pretty much "overweight" but we all did fine in the Twizzy's.

Here is a photo of my husband in the back seat. He's about 5' 10" and 200 lbs:

And my brother and his wife. She is about 5' 10" as well:

Back seat can also see well, and gets a much better breeze! Front has less breeze blowing and gets a little warmer.

  6. I just got back from Bonaire and we had a group of 10 do the Twizzy Tour. All 10 of us LOVED it! And nowhere else in the Caribbean can you do this!

They are small, two-seater, electric cars. They go up to 60 mph and are SO FUN to drive!!! We paid $55 per person and all think this tour was the best money spent throughout the cruise!

Hans, the owner/operator, was an awesome tour guide. Very informative! He's straight from Germany, so his English isn't perfect, but he's totally understandable.

We had plenty of stops for pictures, we stopped at a local distillery for some cactus liquor tasting, we stopped at the flamingo sanctuary in the National Park, and we stopped at the Eden/Spice Beach Club at the end for some AWESOME snorkeling and swimming. Delicious food and a full bar were available for lunch too!

  7. Just back from Bonaire and loved it there. We did a tour of half the island with Hans at Roadrunner Tours and his Twizzys. No where else can you drive a Twizzy in the Caribbean! We stopped at Eden Beach/Spice Beach Club afterwards for some awesome snorkeling & swimming, lunch was available for purchase, and relaxing.

Twizzys are two seater electric cars with speeds of up to 60. You sit one in front, and one in back. They handle great and we're such fun.

Hans was very knowledgeable about the island, but is from Germany, so his English is not perfect, but he is totally understandable.

For $55 per person, I highly suggest this awesome excursion. Tell him Cheryl sent you!

I'll try and get a pic uploaded.

  8. Just back from Bonaire and we LOVED our Twizzy Tour of the island with Hans. Nowhere else in the Caribbean can you drive a Twizzy! It's a electric, two-seater car. Goes up to 60 mph and are so fun to drive! Found the tour on Trip Advisor with high ratings.

We had a great tour of the island, then a stop at Eden Beach Club for some great snorkeling/swimming, lunch, and relaxation. Hans was very informative about the island, but is from Germany, so his English is not perfect, but he's very understandable.

And for $55 per person, you really get your money worth. I had a group of 10 people, and all 10 loved this excursion.

Check out his website. I highly suggest it.

  9. A small group of us have a cruise out of New Orleans this year on November 10th - Carnival Elation. None of us have been to New Orleans before!!

We reserved rooms at the Prytania Park Hotel in the Garden District based on suggestions from this site, reviews I've read, and it being a minute to catch the street car. Plus decent rates!

We will be arriving Friday night (probably late) and don't cruise until Monday.

What shall we do Saturday and Sunday?

We all wanna dive into the local flavor, see the history, eat the best food, and hear the best music - and of course, on a small budget!

    Other questions:

Is the cruise terminal walking distance?

Is there a place to pick up water/sodas to take on board close by?

How early should we get to the terminal?

Thanks for any advice, happy cruising y'all!

  10. Thanks for the review! I'm heading to New Orleans for the first time in November, and this review was my first "study" of the area. I took lots of notes and appreciate all the details! The only thing missing from the review was food photos. ;)

We're staying in the Garden District at the Prytania Park Hotel. Great rates, about a minute walk to catch the street car, and only 15 blocks to the French Quarter! Saw this place recommended here on Cruise Critic.
