  1. Hi there. We, too, will be sailing on the Jewel of the Seas...in Feb. 2015. I have been looking for things to do on Martinique also. I figure if all else fails we will just get off the ship and stroll around for awhile and get back on the ship and have a relaxing day on board.

From what I've read it sounds like Anse Migan beach is a favorite and they say there is a bar and several restaurants close by.

I think you have to take a ferry to the beach. Ferry runs every 30 minutes.

I hope you post on this thread after you return.....I'm curious to know what your thoughts are and what you ended up doing while there.

I will update it for sure.

My friend (who is also a beach bum) only walked around town. I'm not sure why she didn't venture out to the beach. I think the ferry thing turns people off to the idea.

    ??

We too are going on Jewel- next week! :)

  2. Hi Everyone!

Just wondering of anyone has a beach they would suggest that we visit while in Martinique.

We're looking for a fun beach with bar service and if you have prices (taxi, entrance, chair fee - etc) that would be helpful too.

    Thank you in advance!!

  3. Basically, your options are Reduit Beach in Rodney Bay or Pigeon Island. RB is 25-30 minutes from port and costs $30US one way for up to three people and PI is about 35 minutes from port and taxi is $35us one way up to three people. Picasso has a bit of snorkeling, and hiking, along with ruins to explore....and it's a national park with a $6us entry fees.

Otherwise, Reduit Beach it is, beach has been improved with lots of sand, etc. Shopping, restaurants, bars, watersports all along the beach....

There are other beach options, but they don't have the facilities, etc of those two.

Thank you so very much! That is *exactly* what I wanted to hear!!!!!

    Thank you for the choices!

    Have a great day!!!

  4. Hello all,

We're looking for a fun beach, with facilities and bar/restaurant within a taxi drive from the port.

    Any suggestions?

We've been to Rodney twice but the last time we were there, the water was up to the lifeguard chairs and my friend was stung by a jellyfish. The sunbathers were almost stacked one on top of another.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions! :D

    ***NEVER MIND!!***

I've found my answer on a different page- thank you!

The ferries to the beach are within walking distance from the cruise ship. Always follow the blue line painted on the road it's about 10 minute walk. Close to the ferries there's not much all I saw was McDonalds. We went to a beach named Anse Migan. There's a lovely bar overlooking the beach and there are several restaurants within walking distance.

    Thank you!!

I agree! Very informative posts- thanks all!

  7. I have some pictures and comments on what we did in Martinique here (along with the other ports of our 11 night southern Caribbean cruise):

It was a rather different stop. The 60 euro/hour seemed like a lot, especially when they set a minimum of 2 hours. We ended up walking to a ferry about 1.4 miles from the port and rode it to the other side of the bay. Then walked about 1 more mile to some beautiful beaches. We were there on a Sunday when not much was open and the few souvenir shops that were open did not take US dollars or speak much English. We did find one place to get an ice cream and drink that did. What started out as a frustrating start, turned out to be a fun day. We're heading back there next month on a cruise and will probably end up doing the same thing.

I have to ask - what kind of a camera are you using?? Those underwater pictures are fantastic!!!:)

  8. Is the ferry port walking distance from where the ship docks? We're just looking for a beach where we can have a couple of beers and relax. Anything like that near by or is it all by ferry?

    Thanks!

***never mind!!! I found out the answer I was looking for! ***

  9. Will be visiting the port of San Juan in February and, more than anything, I want to have authentic mofongo. I definitely prefer a homestyle spot over a tourist type place. Any recommendations for a restaurant would be appreciated .... and if its walking distance (or otherwise convenient) to the cruise ship pier, all the better. Thank you :)

Metropol has a good one: click here

but the BEST one we have had was in Condado at Cafe del Angel - there is no devoted website but here is some good info: click here

  10. Thanks for the info. What hotels do you recommend in Isle Verde?

The hotels seem to be a bit cheaper on the Isla Verde side. The streets are busier but the hotels are less $.

We have stayed on both sides. On the Isla Verde side, we normally stay at either the Embassy Suites or the Hampton Inn (free breakfasts and happy hour at night).

  11. Thanks so much! Was the seating uncomfortable at all? It looks like it might be for my husband. :o

It wasn't bad at all- it's like sitting backwards on a chair. You aren't in the seats for too long anyway.

  12. We want to snorkel at the Underwater Sculpture Park and this company has a tour that includes it plus some commentary about the island while on a boat tour. But there's not much talk here on CC about Grenada Seafaris.

Is this a good tour? Has anyone used them?

    Hi there!

We took the Seafaris tour a couple of years ago (last time we were in Grenada) and we *LOVED* it!! So much, in fact, that when planning our 2015 cruise, we looked for one which went to Grenada so we could do it again- and we have already let Seafaris know the day we will be there :D

It wasn't a long tour but it was packed with information and beautiful scenery. The crew were a lot of fun and very well informed about island history.

We really recommend it, you won't be disappointed!! :D

Let me know if you have any questions.

  13. Speaking of security line ( a few stories ago)...

During our first cruise, we had met a really nice couple, our age, that were leaving San Juan on the same flight as us.

We thought it was cool, so we hung out together until it was departure time.

As you know, you have to cram all your last minute items into a carry on bag...as we did.

So-there we are, at the security check point when my husband tosses our carry on garment bag on the conveyer belt. It goes through the machine and I walk through the scanner thing...

suddenly an alarm goes off and the woman scanning our bag yells out "I need this bag checked!" the checker person started feeling around the outside of our bag...there was something vibrating....and tube shaped....

"HONEY!!!" my husband yells out!! This got the rest of the people that weren't already paying attention, to look....

    AAAGGHHHH!!!!

It was my battery operated TOOTHBRUSH that had turned on!!!!!!!!:o
