  1. Having to give your passport up depends on your nationality and where you are sailing.  On a European cruise a few years ago Australians had to give their passports up and were given a copy.  Prior to disembarkation at the final port in Italy they had to present themselves to immigration officers at customer services before receiving their passports back.

  2. You can't use the MSC reference (for Aer Lingus flights, anyway). It's not possible for us to access the booking; we have to wait 'til check-in at the airport to find out which seats the airline has allocated us. I contacted MSC about this for our recent trip.

We have flights from Dublin to Barcelona at 6.45 am. Has anyone tried the Evening Before check-in at the airport as we were thinking of doing that.

    Thanks

  3. What I have done for a long time now is reduce the picture / details page of our passports on a colour printer to credit card size and then laminate it. Easy to carry in wallet or purse and have had no problem using it for ID. Also handy if something should happen to your passport as you at least have your details to hand for a replacement.

  4. I want to see if anyone has any "recent" experience on MSC Musica they would like to share. I am considering a Greek Island cruise from Venice next May 2018.

Also, what area of Venice would you recommend for one night stay before the cruise?

We were on Musica the last week of September this year and really enjoyed.

There was only one downside, we had to come home!!!

We flew in a day before and stayed in Smart Hotel Holidayl, Mastre. We arrived early in the morning and were able to book into the hotel. The hotel was only a few minutes from the tram and were able to sell us a 24 hour ticket for the tram and water bus for €20 each. Well worth having as you can jump on and off for 24 hours from when you first activate it. Just make sure you activate on every journey.

We went into Venice that afternoon and had a walk about but there were too many people about and didn't really enjoy it. Maybe some time we will go back for a few days.

The hotel offers transfer to the port in a minibus for something like €5 each. No lugging luggage over the bridges for us!!

Now the cruise. First of all it is what you make of it. We hadn't cruise for 10 years due to circumstance but really enjoyed it.

Don't do too many trips. There are plenty of walk off opportunities. So think about what you really want to see.

Americans, now friends, we met did 4 trips that week were exhausted as they didn't factor in the amount of walking required on some of them.

Even though there are no full sea days there are some half days at sea, enjoy them, relax, soak up the atmosphere and sun and the odd "lemonade".

Just go with an open mind like us and you will enjoy it.

Feel free to ask questions and I will try to answer as best I can.

  5. As well as the folder I also scan all my documents and email them to myself. I then have them on my phone, tablet and available on web mail. Just in case.

Just make sure you save the email attachment to your phone and tablet as it could disappear.

  6. In case anyone is flying into or out of Vince in October you need to be aware of this.

Treviso Airport temporarily closure - October, 4-18

Treviso Antonio Canova Airport will be closed from 4th to 18th October 2017 (inclusive) for essential runway works.

During this period, all flights to/from Treviso Airport will operate to/from Venice Marco Polo Airport, located less than 30km from Venice Treviso Airport.

Marco Polo will be very busy during this time so give yourself plenty of time for checking in and passing through security.

  8. We are on Musica at the end of September and have not found much info either so this thread will be very useful.

    Now some questions:

    What experience are you on?

    Where is your cabin?

Also what was the embarkation like?

You might be sorry you started this thread!!

Enjoy your cruise and keep us updated as long as it does not interfere with your enjoyment.

  9. I always make a copy of the picture page of our passports, reduced to credit card size and laminated. Have used them to show to the police when boarding a Costa ship in Barcelona with no problem. Also handy when using a credit card in some countries where ID is required.

  10. We took an excursion in September when in Santorini on MSC Sinfonia. We disembarked by tender ahead of everyone else and were landed at a separate pier where we boarded our coach. Drove to Oia where the guide walked us to the best viewpoint and gave us directions to the blue domed church. We had 90 mins or so in Oia before we were driven to Akrotiri and the ruins. Entrance included and tour by our guide. Last stop the Santos winery for tasting and small snacks but, most importantly, amazing views. Then we were driven back to the same pier where we boarded the tender again and returned to the ship. This was our only ship tour so far and was worth it to avoid the crowds and the cable car queue!

This sounds like our type of tour, especially the wine!!!

  11. I did a MSC beach excursions in Sept 2014, which included some time in Oia. I loved it! I included pictures in my review :-) happy cruising!

Thank you for the reply. We are not really beach people but your review has given us some ideas as you also covered some of the other ports we call at. Liked the food pictures!!!
