  1. Thanks everyone. I found out that AMA has two docking sites.. Will get the hotel I like and and taxi to the dock if needed. Appreciate the hotel advice, will look into all of them.

  2. Hi. I posted a question about Budapest hotels recently. I got good responses but I can't find them. Wondering what hotel to book the night before an AMAwaterways cruise. Responses told me where the ship would be docked and what hotels are near there. I can't remember if people suggested staying near there or somewhere more interesting and taxi to dock. Thanks.

  3. Thanks everyone. Cabins aside, is AMA generally considered a step up from Avalon? Our TA seems to think so and is encouraging us to go with AMA. Cabin not as important to us as the overall experience. We have heard great things about both lines. For the same price, we would get a French balcony cabin on AMA or a Panorama Suite on Avalon. The Panorama Suites do look nice. This board is certainly helping trip fall into place. Will take Czech Shuttle to Prague and stay in Hilton Old Town or look at Marriott across the street... whichever's points work best. Now just have to decide between AMA and Avalon but seems can't go wrong with either. Thanks again to all of you.

  4. Thanks again. Just realized the €86 was for a Marriott. Also have Hilton points so will check Hilton Old Town. Will also look at Czech shuttle. TA wants me to consider Avalon Panorama Suite. Same price as Ama. She is very high on Ama though. What do you all think?

  5. I contacted Ama. Can transfer to Prague for $149 each. Was going to use points at the Hilton but it's only €85 per night. So, transfer and three nights in Prague will be under $600 versus $1560 through Ama! Anyone have any negative comments about Ama or am I okay going with them? Thanks everyone!!

  6. Wow. Thanks everyone. Didn't expect such quick responses. I will talk with AMA. Transfer without hotel would work as we can pay for a hotel with points. I looked at a train and liked the price but it was six or seven hours with connections as you mentioned. Driving was three+ hours. Also thought of renting a car. Worth looking into? Will check Germany section. Also considering going on Scenic, Uniworld, or Tauck so we'll see how they handle it but know the price will be high on all. Thanks again!!

  7. Hi. Considering taking a cruise extension to Prague for three days. Cruise line charges $780. Seems like my wife and I should be able to get transportation to Prague and three nights and a hotel for less than $1560. Maybe not? Difficult to go from Vilshofen to Prague? Any suggestions?

  8. Hi everyone. Just back from our trip. We disembarked at Le Havre (found out that it's pronounced like Brett Favre) and hired a driver... Philip from Label-West. Spent a rainy day in Normandy and then he dropped us at Caen for the train to Paris. Philip was great. He even walked us right into the station at Caen to be sure that we found our train. Taxi from Gare St. Lazarre to hotel about 8 pm. All went smoothly. Only bummer was that we did not see any sun whatsoever from disembarkment on Tuesday through flying out Sunday morning. Still a great trip. Thanks to everyone for their help.

  9. Hello. Has anyone done an excursion involving biking Guernsey? We are wondering about the type of roads and if helmets are available. We are experienced bikers. We consider 6 miles a very short ride. We don't bike without helmets. We will be on a Princess cruise. We would love to do a nice, relaxing bike ride but not one where there is a lot of traffic. Rather than booking an excursion, are biking tours available at the port? Thanks for your help.

  10. Thanks Bob++. Trying to find an automatic rental car. Would like to return to La Havre about 8 PM but rental agencies close at 6pm. Haven't found one that allows you to return later. Would be a short day if had to be back to Le Havre by 6. To save time, wondering about returning car to Caen and then taking a train from Caen about 7/8pm to Paris. Another option would be to overnight in Le Havre, keep the car until the next morning and return it before going to Paris. Any thoughts anyone? Thanks!

  11. Hi again. Just found out that to disembark at Le Havre, you have to leave the ship in the morning. I had hoped to take the Normandy excursion and disembark after that but not allowed. Want to spend a day at Normandy. Could we check our bags at a hotel in Le Havre and find a trip to Normandy for the day, staying back in Le Havre that night? Or should we head to Paris and take a trip to Normandy from there the next day?

    Thanks!

  12. I have started process to disembark at Le Havre. Ideally, I would like to take Princess excursion to Normandy during the day and disembark upon return. Not sure if Princess will allow that. If they do, might need to stay in Le Havre disembarkation night and go to Paris the next day. Any suggestions about getting to Paris from Le Havre? Thanks!
