  1. We were on the Fantasy in early December and had the early dinner. My GS is 3 and this worked pretty well for him except it was mac & cheese and broccoli every night. The only negative for us was the feeling of being rushed to get there on time, especially on a port day. He was so excited ( like a sugar high ) that he wanted to constantly be on the go, so early to bed wasn't even an option.

We're going back on the Fantasy in April ( 16th ) of 2016 to celebrate his 5th birthday and this time I opted for late dinner. I'll just make sure that all of us have a later lunch.

  2. Thanks to Everyone on this thread for your help. You have made our decision so much easier.

1 hour ago we booked a 7 day cruise on Disney Magic departing on March 1st. We are taking our Daughter in Law and 3 of our Grandchildren.

On all our cruises we have only admired DCL Ships from afar and I can't believe we will actually get our turn to try it out. As a Grandfather I am reliving my youth vicariously through my Grandchildren and will continue to do so during the cruise.

Once again this could not have happened so easily without your help :D

I just returned 12/13 from the Fantasy and totally agree with you.

When my Grandson was born in 2011, my wife and I decided that same day that we were going to take him on a Disney cruise. Since we were both working, we started our fund the next paycheck and had planned on waiting until he was around 5 or 6 years old-- so we thought we had plenty of time.

My wife got sick in 2012 and passed in 2013, but I promised her that I would complete our goal. I had to take early Social Security so that I could be a full time caregiver and money became very tight, but, lets say that after hundreds of jars of peanut butter I made it happen. I moved the date up as I was now aware that I didn't know how many tomorrows there really are.

When you see the brightness on a child's face when they first see " Mickey's Boat ", See all of the characters, be pampered at dinner, dress like a pirate and shake hands with Jack Sparrow-- it melts your heart. If you approach the cruise with the feelings of " through the eyes of a child " and " our inner youth ", you will have a magical time that nothing can replace.

Sorry for being long here, but, your main points hit mine to a tee. Oh and don't be Grumpy-- Be Happy:D

  3. ;)I can only offer information for the Fantasy as this was our first, but, NOT our last Disney cruise.

As to your impression of the cleanliness of the ship, I will attest that at no time day or night items were not being cleaned. My Son-in-Law announced after our trip that even though this was his first and only cruise, he will never cruise another line. Granted he is a major pain when it comes to germs, but, he is right. From the constant cleaning of all public areas including even all of the deck chairs to the pressure washing of the decks AND the complete outside of the ship in ports there was never a fear of closed in contamination.

As to the children on board--I was told that we had around 1500 in the infant to teen range and rarely even noticed. I was bumped by many more adults then the children.

I know your concern about the size of the ship as mobility and me don't mix well these days. I use a rollator and managed to get around pretty good. Our cabin was in the very far front of the ship and of course the dining rooms are at the back which did cause me to take a short sit down break of a minute or two, but, all in all no problem. I met a couple in their early 80's that have cruised Disney over 20 times including 5 without family an their mobility consisted of one using a rollator and the other a scooter so please don't let mobility be a negative.

  4. I have booked Victor for our cruise in March. We're planning on doing the ziplines, touring the area, and going to his house to see the animals. Though most posts on this board RAVE about Victor and his guides, I have read one post saying they did not like the tour guide they had.

If you used Victor, did you love the guide? If so, who did you have? & finally, does anyone know if you can ask for a particular person?

Don't know about asking for a particular guide, but, I would request it when you book through his web site. We had Leonell and loved his attention to detail. This was the best excursion we had ever taken in that we could tailor it to our likes and wants and not have to follow the crowd.

  5. Hi! first post here. I am sailing on the Legend with my Grandmom on 9/30/07. We're really looking forward to it! I booked through Cruise.com and the room is a partially obstructed view on the main deck with french doors. I assume the view is obstructed by the life boats, but I was wondering if anyone had stayed in a room with french doors. Does that mean it's a little bigger? Or is it one regular door split in two? That's more of what i'm expecting.

Sailed for the first time on the Carnival Destiny in 11/06 and have been dying to cruise since. Thanks for all the great advice on the boards. I cannot wait to do the stingray city in Grand Cayman.

If anyone will be sailing on this cruise, let me know, I would love to meet some other Cruise Critics!

    Lauren
