  1. Thanks.  Called Carnival a 3rd time to try to break the tie.  They started quoting Jones Act and I exaplained that it's a European cruise.  They came back and said "Carnival doesn't allow it, but if you disembark you'll have to handle immigration on your own."

Were your 2 No's from the 1-800 number team or from shipboard crew?

  2. Sailing Carnival Pride May 28, 2023, Barcelona to London.  Final stop is Zeebrugge (Belgium/Brussels), a day before reaching Dover (London).  I'd like to disembark there and stay in Belgium.  Has anyone ever done this?  I called Carnival and they were very quick to say "we can't keep you from getting off, so just tell security a day ahead of time."

I know arrangements need to be made with locals immigration, as well as amending the cruise manifest.  I know Royal has recently ended the option to disembark early, but likely under the auspices of Covid.  Carnival rep was too quick to tell me "yes", so I'm a bit worried.

  4. Go Celebrity, hands down. Not even close.

Mid 30s couple here. See below for the cruises we've tried. Didn't like Royal or Carnival, and NCL is cutting quality everywhere.

On Celebrity, you have to make your own fun. Ships are dead after dinner/show time. But we enjoy having the public areas to ourselves. We like privacy and relaxation. The experienced (older, no offense) crowd Celebrity attracts knows good value, decent food, and good service.

Our opinion, go for the 10 day cruises leaving on Friday returning on Monday. Best value and fewest vacation days required. 7 night cruise maybe more action as people try to party harder on shorter cruises. Also fewest children on longer cruises, unless over a major holiday. We prefer the ports on Eastern Caribbean, esp. St Maarten, Barbados, and Labadee. We've run into trouble in Western ports.

  5. The rake on these as well as the blackjack tournaments are simply outrageous. Much higher than any land casino, probably because of the captive audience and attraction of newbies to low stakes fun. Can be fun, but have to be very lucky to overcome the odds, other players, and huge upfront hold. I enjoy watching.

Sometimes there's some cash game poker advertised in the daily program.

Just my two cents...to each their own. Enjoy and good luck!

  6. From my vast experience of sailing during NFL season, I can offer my best guess. At least in your cabin, you'll get a 1pm, 4pm, and 8pm game. There's very little chance of Chargers/Miami being the 1pm game as the ship probably gets the TV feed from the most popular matchup as dictated to them by the station. Your only chance is getting local Miami TV before sailaway, however Miami rarely sells out and so game would be blacked out locally. Bring a radio with headphones and find out the Dolphins station. Game will end around time of muster drill.

I've had some luck watching the outdoor screen of nearby Carnival or Princess ships when docked prior to sailaway....the things I do for fantasy football....I'm taking a January cruise specifically because the weekend playoff games are sea days which won't interfere with port excursions.

You'll also get the Monday and Thursday night games too.
