I did this excursion with Princess a few years ago, I didn’t know what I was in for. We didn’t get on the ferry until about 12:30pm (tour started around 9am, we drove around for a bit) and the tour guide told us that he’d pick us up around 5pm once we cleared the canal. Problem is sail away from Colon was 5pm. Oh not to worry he told us the cruise line was aware of this. Ok fabulous, would have been nice to know this ahead of time. Yes they did wait for us and we got back at 6:30pm to sail away around 7pm but I was not comfortable with this at all. What if the bus broke down? How much more wiggle room was left?

Anyway the ferry was long, hot, cramped and ultimately not worth it imo. Going through the locks is interesting and all but not for nearly 5 hours of it. On a previous trip to the canal I found it much more interesting to stand and watch the ships go through the locks.

Bathroom was fine. There’s no building to wait for the ferry, the bus doesn’t drop you off until it’s ready, it was just a dirt road and a grassy area. In my experience anyway. Not my favorite excursion but I time out right at 4 hours on most excursions so your experience might differ but it was one of the worst experiences I’ve had.

We currently have this booked but have been receiving some negative comments.  Sounds like I can add yours as well.  Thanks for information.

There is a risk of cancellation with the excursion.  The Canal Authority schedules the smaller boat traffic one day before and if the time doesn't fit with the ship schedule,  they will cancel.  Fortunately for my sailing we were able to go, but they notified us with our excursion tickets.

The ferry itself is nice, with lots of seating.

How were the bathroom facilities on the ferry and waiting for the ferry?

I’m wondering if they plan on not sending out emails or invoices until after they correct all pricing to keep from being flooded with panicked calls.

I think if they would have sent out emails warning giving us a heads up of what they are working on it may have stopped all of the panic calls.   Be proactive instead of reactive.  Just my opinion!

  4. Original cruise 10/6 Explorer now on Independence.

I did have a freak out moment I just happened to login and it said the cruise on explorer was cancelled and then 2 days later we were moved to the Independence.  They moved us without issue to new cabin is pretty much in the same location. But the amount they say we owe is not correct.  We haven't received any kind of notification from Royal that the cruise was even changing to the Independence.  My Daughter in law and son are on the same cruise and their amount due is incorrect also.  She was told they have until 6/16 to get everything all moved.  I know it must be a logistically nightmare but I think if they could just send an email explaining what is going to be the next steps might have helped.

  5. Park n go is awesome.  We used them last April. We stayed at the La Quinta in Hollywood, Fl.  The motel does have a shuttle and you can leave your vehicle there.  We just preferred to be able to take the Park n go shuttle back to our vehicle after the cruise.

  6. Bob's right. I use quite a few for each cruise so the backlog is mostly my fault. lol! Anyway, 45 days out or so still allows you to use them in your cruise planner. I still see all the discounts etc...

    Thanks!

  7. In St. Maarten the shops that sell skin care products were awful in April followed me around wanting me to let them put eye cream on me. It wouldn’t be that bad if it was just one but it was several of them and they don’t like the answer no. Mostly those kind of stores open and jewelry stores open. I couldn’t wait to get back to where the ship was docked. No issues on that side. One other note the water taxis guys were awesome

Didn’t have any issues in San Juan
