  1. Has anyone had experience with the medical facility on the Oasis? I have intermittent atrial fib and therefore may need treatment should it not terminate spontaneously. Had it for a 7 years. My cardiologist has me on preventive meds and has already given me the ok to travel.

Can they provide IV meds should it be needed?

I certainly don't want to be evaluated to a third world island!!

    TIA

  2. I have a-fib, also. Interested in your response on staying hydrated. No one has told me that (though I did find it on an on-line web page). I'm working on compliance, but I'm wondering what the reason is for the need for hydration.

Your potassium will drop which is a vital chemical for body function.

I was dehydrated in the ER the other day due to nausea, my K was low and i got a lecture from the doctor.

I did write to special needs.

  3. RCI requires RNs to have three years of Critical Care Experience (ICU or ER) in order to be hired on any of their ships. I can only assume that physicians need to have at least as much experience.

A Cardizem drip is easily managed by any RN with telemetry experience, so have no fear about the ability of the staff to manage your situation.

Please do everything you can to avoid being put in that situation, however -- make sure you're taking your betablocker religiously and keep yourself VERY well-hydrated (your urine should be almost clear at all times). You don't want to waste your vacation in the infirmary!

FYI, I am a cardiopulmonary RN who floats to the Critical Care Unit. I also plan on being a cruise ship nurse in the next few years, so I have investigated the hiring requirements. RCI is on the higher side of te spectrum when it comes to qualifications -- most lines only require two years of critical care experience, while RCI requires three years.

Thank you so much for your reply. I was also an ICU/CCU nurse and am very aware of good medical managment. I have never had an issue on vacation, but don't want any surprises.

For medical people this is not a huge life threatening issue, if it stays in a fib, but I want to be sure.

I did write to special needs and explained the situation.

    Your reply was fabulous.

  4. I am not asking to bring the liquor aboard, I am asking if I can purchase it now prior to cruising and then it will be in my room. I have done this on other lines. I realize the price is nearly double, but for ex. CCL allows you to pre pay for 2 bottles of liquor - I L. prior to your sailing, and then it is in your room.

I know you can carry 2 - 750 ml. of wine aboard of RCCL.

  5. Good for you,!! I'm 75 too and believe it not this is my very first cruise in March and I'm excited as a teenager. I don't plan on getting old anytime soon!

I have sailed the Carib. 3 times on the Divina. I have to admit I am an easy traveler, love the European flair. The music and shows are fabulous. Food is subjective, only average and the buffet is very large. The service was great and everything was clean. i booked an inside and got upgraded to a suite so what can I complain about? Just the drive to Miami which is a bear!

    75 and holding!

  6. Since joining HAL in 2010, NADM underwent her first dry-docking from 21-29 April 2013 at the Grand Bahama shipyard in Freeport. She again visited Freeport from 27 March until 07 April 2015. Her next "appointment" in Freeport is scheduled between 05-18 November 2017

That's great news. I have not been on her. I have been on other Holland vessels however.

  7. Wow! Great info about this cruise and I can't wait! Not packed yet but looking forward to it. We live in Florida so try to cruise often. Hope to see you there

Need to hit the attic tomorrow for the cases. We have a list but need to get on the stick.

    See you Sat.

  8. Who typically assigns the upgrades? Is there a special department or is it your PCC?

All a mystery to me. I just booked with the cruise line. I have done more than 35 cruises and have rarely had an upgrade. We will see.

It's perhaps for my good works on earth as a volunteer for the less fortunate that the upgrade fairy came with her gift. I will see.

  9. I'll be right there with you. Are you packed yet?:D MSC is my favorite line as well and I've been through trial by fire with the website issues.:D

Suitcases still in attic, will get out Wed.

I am an organized person so I will go shopping in my closet. :)
