  1. We just changed our landline phone # last Monday & I forgot to immediately put us on the Do Not Call list. Tuesday we had 37 sales calls (no lie!!). Now they call using cell phones!

One of the calls was someone from India (because of the thick accent) telling me I had money coming to me because of the surgery I had 7 years ago. That would be great if I ever had surgery. When I told him this he told me I was wrong and that I did have surgery.

Best response I ever had was answering the phone, not saying hello but whispering into the phone "ok so I cut up and buried the body, now what?" Never had anybody hang up on me that fast!:D

  2. Unfortunately, the craziest complaint I ever heard on a cruise ship was from my own mother.

She complained about EVERYTHING! We took them on a cruise for their 25th year wedding anniversary on Carnival in one of their gorgeous suites.

Just a sidebar note? The cruise was AMAZING. There was NOTHING wrong, but she just went on and on and on:

"I can't understand what these people are saying."

(Some of the waitstaff had accents. Nothing you couldn't make out if you spent more time listening and less time whining!)

"It's too hot on this boat!"

(Um, you're in the Caribbean. And sadly, Carnival doesn't have the thermostat to adjust the SUN, Mom!)

    "There's nothing to do."

(NOTHING TO DO??? This is from a retiree who only knows what time it is depending on what is on television!)

    "Everything is so expensive!"

(Interesting comment...since WE paid for everything! LOL)

"There are too many kids on this boat!"

(She has that wonderful grandmotherly instinct, obviously.)

"This ship moves around too much!"

(Okay, it was a little rough, but hello? You're on a BOAT!)

"You have to walk so far to the buffet!"

(Because, g^d forbid you should do a little walking, right?)

    But...my favorite was this one:

    "There's nothing on television!"

(Didn't we fly you down from New York to Florida and put you on this ship to get you AWAY from the television???)

Who watches Television on a cruise?

    The kicker?

A week later, she writes me a letter telling me she had the BEST TIME EVER!

Mothers. Can't live with them, can't toss them overboard. ;)

OMG we have the same mother!!! My DH and I took my mother on a cruise (and paid for everything) and although she didn't complain about the television or it being to hot on the boat she did also complain about:

"I'm not walking down the stairs for the safety drill"

(DH told her she better because if the ship went down she was on her own!)

    "This food is terrible"

(didn't matter what or where we ate on the ship)

And the kicker complaint was..."Is that $40 for the room guy? All he did was make the bed"

(That's okay mom, we paid that for you too & don't touch that envelope!)

Like you I got a call a week or two later telling me what a wonderful time she had. It was so bad that after we dropped her off at home my DH turned to me and said "we are NEVER taking her ANYWHERE again!" LOL

  3. DH wakes up early everyday so we get room service breakfast. And every night we get something too. DH loves the BLT's & I like the Shrimp sandwich and "steak" sandwich.

Never had the chocolate cake or cookies. Bet my DH would love them!

Can't wait to have room service again in November!

  4. Am I the only one who made a photo chart of what I am wearing each day and evening complete with shoes, bags and accessories? Please tell me someone else does this...

This will be the first cruise that I'll be making a photo chart.:) When it comes to vacations I'm very OCD (I have no clue why though!) I normally laid everything out on the bed - outfit, shoes & jewelry then packed it. Now I have my own dressing room so decided to take the time to take pics and be able to cross check outfits/shoes/jewelry better.

  5. Marie, you look stunning in that dress. I've read though 75 percent of this thread and it took me I think a week. lol.

I'm going to try to post a couple of pics of my dresses that Im planning on taking so here goes.

ok that worked lol.. I got it in Gray, I'm Stepmom to a bride in June and this is what I'm wearing. if my friend isn't wearing long I might hem it to the knee. and the other is, you might have to scroll down jut a bit. its the silver with embroidery on it. I bought both on ebay haven't received either so hope they are of half way decent quality. What do you think

Donna - like both the dresses but LOVE the short silver one! Great price for them too!

We sail in November so I'm just starting to look. Wish me luck guys!!;)

  6. I absolutely loved the review and pictures! Your children are phenomenal. They not only looked like they had a blast but also look like the most well behaved children I've EVER seen!

I've been to both Grand Turk and HMC on the Destiny. Love both ports. We didn't know about Jack's Shack and plan to check it out when we go back there (and we will!!! :D) We rented a clam shell on HMC and it was great - it's just my DH & I so I got to read while he drank and slept - lol

We're going on the Victory in November and I understand what you said about rude/lacking employees, but like you pretty much said - a vacation is what YOU make it. I absolutely love cruising and I'd be happy just to be on the ship "stuck" in my room for the whole thing - as long as I had room service

  7. I miss most the "motion of the ocean". With all the stabilizers out there and the newly built ships, you just don't feel like you are on water anymore. (Unless there is a pretty good storm). I used to love walking on the decks in the evenings and not being able to keep a straight line. (now I just have to have a martini or two). How much fun it was to watch a whole group of passengers walking forward.....then all left.....then all right! What a blast. It may make some people seasick, but that's the one thing I miss about cruising.

I miss this too - being rocked to sleep at night, kinda like the train. And the walking was always so fun to watch - lol :D

  8. I was so excited last Thursday when I weighed and had lost 2 lbs! Then had no one to share it  Had that huge ice storm here in Georgia on Weds. and a neighbors tree took out our phone line (and box) when it fell. Not that I'm addicted to the internet or anything but it's been the looooongest 5 days of my life!!! Didn't realize how much I was online!

I don't think this week is going to well though. I eat when I have nothing to do & being home bound for a couple days plus no internet.....well you catch my drift! We'll see on Thursday.

Hope y'all are having a good week :)

  9. Hi Ladies.

I would love to join your group. I have 35 lbs to lose by October. My cruise is in November but I have to have time to buy new clothes, right ?!?!:D

There are three things that I have to cut out of my diet to lose this weight - soda, starch & sugar. My biggest problem is my DH has the metabolism of a cheetah and he was a chef!! He cooks so awesome!! (and he can eat ANYTHING!)

I also work 10 hour days so my exercise level is nonexistent right now. I'm hoping that the weather will start to get nicer soon & I can start walking.

It will be nice to have other "girls" to talk with about this weight stuff!!

  10. Yeah right!

Breakfast is usually room service - coffee, fruit and croissant. Only the last day is in the dining room

Lunch is just a burger or sandwich, even on port days.

Dinner is always the dining room & it's whatever we want. Usually appetizers, salad, entrée & dessert.

One last meal almost ever night is room service (again!) DH is always a BLT & I usually have a shrimp salad sandwich.

I haven't gained any weight yet on any of our cruises (knock on wood!!!) and I agree with most, it's probably because of all the walking etc we do during the day.

  11. Okay, so I've heard a few people talk about this now, you all have got me intrigued. I know what it is, but where? That sounds pretty cool. Out in West GA there is a yard sale that streches down Hwy 27, i guess it's the same principle. Let me know.
We just had one last weekend called "Peaches to Beaches" and it went all along Hwy 41/341. It started Friday but we didn't go till Saturday so we didn't make it as far as the Beach. I found a double size iron bed for $40 and didn't buy it - I've kicked myself in the butt at least three times already this week for not getting it! Can't wait for the state to state one in August - we're bringing along a trailer for that one!:)
  12. Do you have a tornado warning? we did here. I used not to take them seriosuly until the Kroger less than a mile from me got creamed.
OMG! We had heavy, heavy rain plus the thunder and lightening and wind. It was raining so hard we couldn't see our lake that's only 50 yards from the house!

Since I've only been here in Georgia for about 4 months, I was really freaked out. DH has been through tornados before so he was telling me it was no big deal - yeah, right:eek:

  13. Mummo - I keep most of this stuff "prepacked" in a carry on then transfer it to the suitcase when we're going on the cruise.

I did learn a few new ones though - super glue (I should know this one as I have crowns and caps:D), windsock and a small blanket. The blanket is a great idea. We spend alot of time on our balcony and DH gets cold easy so this will be perfect!

  14. We're from Dalton and love to cruise. The yard sale you're probably talking about is "The World's Longest Yard Sale". It runs along US 127 from Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky around the first week in August.
That's it! I can't wait. My birthday is the first week in August so this made the best birthday present. DH thinks he's getting off cheap - little does he know:D
