Kilt, Well, I hope, for his sake, that's not how he got the name Wee Jimmy! :D
Actually, he's short and Scottish, hence the "wee" and the kilt!
-
How was Wee Jimmy???
He was fine. I really got a kick out of his kilt on formal night, but got a little tired of his corny jokes.

FABULOUS....... All but the fact that you are a Tony Stewart Fan..... frown...... Go Jeff Gordon..... Now that I got that out of my system. Does anyone know who will be the Cruise Director on the Conquest for the September 7, 2008, cruise? This will be our first cruise and we are hoping for a great CD. Also, on another thread someone mentioned that you can bring a case of bottled water on board with you. Does anyone have any information about that. My reason for asking is that I drink bottled bottle but add the sugar free sweeteners to them which are not available on board. Any suggestions on this????
Wee Jimmy just started as the CD on 3/9, so he might still be there in Sept. As for the bottled water, we just put a case inside a rolling duffle bag and it worked just fine. Some people just tape their luggage tag to the case, but I've never tried that. If you don't want to hassle with the case of water, just bring your flavored sweeteners and add to a glass of water.

yes that was him. we were on there the same week.
It looks like we'll miss you by a week this year. We are going this weekend. Can't wait!
-
can anyone remember who the cruise director was last march? we were on there and I frogot his name. Todd maybe
We sailed March 11, 2007 and our CD was James Smith.

I feel really stupid. This is the quote from the Cruise Director thread I meant to post.
I just got off the Conquest yesterday and talked to Marc Price and he told me he is going to the Glory in June and Wee Jimmy is taking over his duties on the Conquest in March. -
So, is Mark Price going on vacation or is he leaving the ship permantly? That is disapointing as my hooneymoon cruise is in May. I had heard so many good things about Mark. A good CD can make a cruise that much more fun. That being said, we are still going to have a blast. It'll be my third cruise, 2nd on Carnival and my then wife's first. I can't wait!!!
I found this on another thread. It looks like we'll be on his last voyage on the Conquest before vacation.
we just got back Sunday and I asked Mark how long he would be on Conquest. He said 2 more weeks and then he's on vacation.i had to meet him after reading about him on here.
great cruise director.

Now that everyone is required to be on board 1 hour prior to sailing, are they doing the muster drill prior to sailing, or does it vary?
-
They were selling it for $22.95 on the Carnival Conquest a year ago. I was at Spec's liquor store today and they were telling me that is one of the only items on the Carnival liquor price list I have that is not available in the US.

Does anyone know if I can carry wine on board in my carry on bag or does it have to be in my suitcase?
As long as you stay within the limit of 1 bottle per adult, it would be best to carry it on.

We will be on the Conquest March 9th. I heard that Marc Price is the current cruise director and he will be replaced by Wee Jimmy in mid-March. I don't see Marc Price's name on the Carnival CD bio list. Has he left? Anyone know who will be the CD for March 9th?

Are you all talking about Scotchie's? Our driver took us there and it was delicious and seemed very authentic--open air with thatched covers over the tables and you could see them cooking the food out back.

Which dock is the Conquest using these days in Cozumel? Do they ever have to tender there?
-
Do you think we have enough time to do the Native Way Rays Reef and rumpoint trip in Grand Cayman? I am nervous because the tour is 5 hours long. And if we get in port at 7am cruise time, will that be 8am Cayman time?
Thanks for the help.
Kim
We are also sailing the Conquest 3/9 and are booked for Nativeways Rays, Reef & Rum Point. We took this same tour last year and I had the same concern about timing. Our tour started about 8:15 a.m. last year and will be at 8:30 a.m. CST this year, so I am hoping we will have a little more breathing room getting an early enough tender to meet the tour. Last year we waited about 45 minutes for a tender and were afraid we would miss the tour, so go get your tender tickets as early as possible. Keep in mind this is the first week of DST, so it will feel extra early! While Cayman is EST, they do not observe DST, so ship time will be the same. We got back to port with a little time for shopping before the 3 p.m. "last tender." Actually, the tender line was so long I think they were still tendering passengers until 3:45 p.m. You'll love the trip!

The door is metal but magnet is not recommend b/c it is easily remove. Scotch tape or clear packaging tape are best.
Are you suggesting someone would STEAL my door decorations? Well, given the postings I've read suggesting that people take towels from lounge chairs, I guess I need to consider that possibility.;)
-
We did and it was so easy to find your cabin. It also helped all the neighbors that they complimented the decoration.
Nice job! I hope Natalie had a great birthday. What is the door made of? I was thinking of using something magnetic if it is metal, or perhaps some window clings.
-
I've read that people on some ships decorate their doors (easier to find your cabin?). Is that done on the Conquest?

You can click on this link, and then bookmark it. That's what I did.
I'm not sure how much they change, but here is a link to some more recent Capers from December 2006: http://travel.webshots.com/album/556654088xSygQh

Sorry, I don't know whether there is a car rental return at the port. I believe the poster was getting their car through Enterprise.

I have the Conquest booked for April 6, 2008. Airfare from Phoenix is pretty cheap but after reading about the distance between the airport and port, we're wondering if it wouldn't be more reasonble to just cruise out of Florida.
Can someone please give me some kind of approximate breakdown on what costs I'm looking at as far as transfers & hotels go? I need to decide if I'm going to keep this cruise or change it to one out of Florida instead. I'd appreciate it!
Thanks! :)
Which airport are you looking at flying into? Hobby (HOU) is much closer to Galveston than Geo. Bush Intl. (IAH) I don't have personal experience with the cost of transfers from either airport, but I have read on these boards of one way car rentals from Hobby for less than $20.

I have read that in some places in the Caribbean, if you use your credit card, they will add an extra percentage as service fee. I know that on the menu at the Paradise Beach (Cozumel) website there is a note at the bottom of the menu that says they will add an extra 20% if you use your credit card to pay.
What about Sunset Beach (Montego Bay)? Do they also add a service charge when using a credit card?
And Taxis in Mo-Bay and Cozumel?
In Grand Cayman, we were going to do the Native Way Sting Ray/Rum Point excursion. I think I can pay for that through the website, so assume there would be no additional charge on that.
We usually use plastic for everything, but if it costs more, we will need to figure out how much cash to bring.
Thanks for your input!
Not only do you need to look out for merchant surcharges, but your bank may also add an additional 3% or so if the charge is in a foreign currency. I am using Native Way for our upcoming trip and this is what Sharon told me about using a credit card for payment:
"You will pay on our tour boat. We accept US cash, Traveler's Checks, MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover. If you pay via credit card, you will be charged a 4% processing fee. The credit cards are billed in US dollars."
You also don't want to get stuck with the outrageous ATM fees on the ship, so travelers checks are probably the way to go.

The carnival PVP told me that when we get on board, we just have the 2 people who want to trade rooms go to the purser's desk. THey will handle it, no problem!
If I were you, I'd want to have a key to my kids' room, so rather than switch, can't you request extra room keys so everyone can access both rooms?

DH wore a tux as did a large # of the men on our sailing. Had some very nice pictures taken on Formal Night (near the piano by the casino). The photographer had a long-stemmed red rose, two glasses of champagne and the piano to use as props. She spent a lot of time getting people posed just right to get the perfect picture. She did an excellent job and everyone seemed to enjoy watching her work. The wait time wasn't very long and certainly worth it. Tell him to wear the tux and find the photographer.
This will be the perfect opportunity to get some formal family/couple photos!

It is a higher level balcony category (9A) which is much larger than a standard balcony or even an aft balcony.
