  1. I have sewn 2 different sunny dresses for my sisters. I have 2 more to sew. One is pinned and ready to go. Then I should sew something for myself. I leave in 15 days. Sew... I better get going. The neat thing is that they all are different. I did a maxi dress that ties at the shoulders. The other is like a t-shirt dress with split sleeves and has a belt. The one I have pinned ready to sew is over one shoulder maxi dress. And the next will be a standard tank top style maxi dress. Me and my 4 sisters are going and it will be neat that we all will be wearing something I made. Very excited about it. And I did it with no patterns. Just followed some videos and voila! Wish me luck on meeting my deadline.

Well, I finished the other 2 dresses in time. I didn't get good pictures of the green stripped dress. And she wore it with her swim suite. But it's still cute. And my other sister's straps are not matching in width. LOL.

  2. I'd still think it rude if someone at a table sat reading and ignoring everyone around them. That's not social behaviour, and if you don't want to be social you shouldn't sit at a table with other people.....if there isn't a way for you to sit alone in the MDR, one should either make an effort not to be rude to others, or eat somewhere else solo. We can't always get what we want, but we still should be civil to others and not be rude.

I don't agree. But thank you for your response. I am a VERY social person and have no problems involving others in polite conversation when warrented. If I paid for a solo ticket to cruise, then I should be allowed to read. What if I am so busy at work and life that I have had absolutely no time to read and have been looking forward to the cruise just for that purpose? I love MDR food. I love the options and I love being served. Room service is NOT MDR food. Why would I have to settle on an interpretation of social etiquette? I didn't ask to sit with those people. I would excuse myself from conversation politely and explain my situation.

Perhaps the rudeness comes from those that are not understanding and unforgiving? Golden rule is always the best rule. I would not FORCE a person to converse if they were placed at my table against their choice. I think that is rude. I would make sure they knew that I understood and that there was no offense taken, please read away. See? Everyone is happy.

Now can I eat my dessert and finish this chapter? LOL.

  3. Car air freshener, the paper-board kind; hang on back of door; weighs nothing, packs easy; leave it behind.

I think they even come in "Island Fresh" scent!

There always has to be that ONE sister that has issues with perfumes and air fresheners...

  4. Thanks.... It looks like there is a replacement company, Bahamas Paradise with the same 2-night option.

Yeah. They often "give away" this cruise for a timeshare presentation. And quite often they have $60 pp packages. Often people will take the boat there and return same day or spend a couple nights there and then return. Because of the cheaper fare, you get all sorts of people that go.

I "bought" the vacation for my kid's honeymoon. Then when tried to use it, they said they didn't have anything available. SO.... We used it. The beautiful resort we stayed the night at in Grand Bahama was beautiful.

The trip was interesting to say the least. But no one could pay me to use that cruise line (or the new owners) ever again. It just wouldn't be worth it. I feel so ashamed for going on that boat I didn't even want to list it on my cruise list.

  5. LOL. We had a discussion how some of us will probably use the gym showers. And we also mentioned how when it's time for a more "committed" bathroom visit, probably to use a public one to help combat odors. I'm just so excited I can't stand it. So are the rest of the sisters. We are all counting down the days.

  6. Here is my spreadsheet. I have a "summary page" with all the important trip dates, times, confirmation numbers, contact numbers, flight numbers, etc. Second page is a day by day outfit planner (I don't use it as much anymore). Third page is my packing list. I print a copy so I can take it with me and make sure nothing is missing when packing to go back home. Fourth are links that i find about the places I'll be visiting and reviews on ports of call or such so I can look at them again later if needed.

  7. The pink buses are awesome! Saves so much money. And the moon portals are great. I got my picture of me and my dh kissing in one. Another idea is to buy food/sandwiches from a local store and take them to the beach for dinner. Bermuda is so beautiful. I'm sure you will have a lovely time, no matter what you decide. And you can search for thrifty romantic "beach" ideas on line. There are plenty of clever things out there if you search for it. I saw one where they put sand in a picture frame to commemorate the moment.

Maybe a romantic scavenger hunt. Look for hearts on a building. A couple kissing. A wedding. And elderly couple holding hands. And the like. It helps you to enjoy your environment and notice the details.

  8. I'm wondering how 5 of us in 1 cabin will have enough towels to begin with. :) - It's a sister cruise, so we went for savings rather than comfort. LOL

I am one not to get new towels if I don't have to. But we may have to in our situation. And the old ones would go on the bathroom floor, on a pile, out of the way.

  9. You know... I think another thing to consider is to explain to the table your situation. That there were not other "single" tables for you to sit at, and that you would like to state that your plan was to read during the meal, and to please not take offense as you are going to take advantage of the time to read and not join in conversation. Then nose down into the pages I would go. Sometimes explaining your plight allows others to become comfortable with you reading at the table.

  10. Yes, I plan like a mad lady... I've learned to not plan to the minute, but I use Excel to make sure I know what we are doing each day. I've got my flights (dates, times, flight #'s, confirmation#'s). I've got my ship info, where we will be each day, what excursions I booked, their phone #'s, emails, or web site addresses, contacts, etc... I've got a separate sheet that has the days broken out by times so I can plan my outfits. Day, evening, travel apparel. I've found that I don't use this as much anymore as I can pretty much guess what I'll wear each day (whatever is most comfortable HA!). And I'll have a sheet with links for everything i look at for research so I have it if I need it. I do have a packing list included. I print it out and take it with me. I make a slash one way as I pack. Then when packing to go home I slash the other way (making an X) to make sure I don't forget to bring anything back home.

But that summary sheet with all the times, confirmation numbers and phone numbers have paid for itself and then some. And yes, I've been known to make copies in case one gets lost.

  11. My DH and I were on the "thug boat" from Florida to Grand Bahama. The trip was an accidental one and would never book it again... Long story...

We ordered a bottle of Rum to use on the boat and had some in a flask with us to add to our soda. Some rather tall skinny dark complected man was chatting us up, seemed to be rather sociable. He kept drinking shooters he had in his pockets. Like I said, this was the thug boat, not a normal cruise ship. When his booze ran out he stood up and was looking at my DH and saying how he wanted some rum. It was apparent he wanted OUR rum... DH, a rather larger gentleman himself told him no and we were making our leave of the situation. The man angrily stated again how he wanted rum. And poor DH (never harms anyone) said, "Listen, I'm not giving you my rum. It's in our cabin and we aren't going there. And if you start something, it would be no issue to flip you over the side." The look on the man's face was priceless as he went pale, wide eyed, stammered his apologies and stumbled away. I am so glad I never had to see the outcome if he would have made the wrong choice. It was a scary and weird moment. Something I hope to never come across again.

I heard that "thug boat" sunk at the Grand Bahama terminal because it hit a reef. I hope I never see that boat again.

  12. Here are some ideas - 100 Grand mini candy bars. Gum or mints, chap stick for smiles and kisses, band aides for going a little crazy, sun glasses cause the they shine so bright, shooters to start the trip off right, mini manicure set, water, instant tooth brushes, moist towelettes, ear plugs, face mask, tums, package of crackers, hair ties, makeup remover wipes, nuts...

Just some things I saw... Have fun!

  13. WOW! That is a lot of sewing. The dress look great. How do you tied the neck?

On the orange striped dress I sewed the string to the ends of the top of the dress to keep the strings from bunching up in front of the neck. So the ties stay on the shoulders and don't bunch around the neck. I think if I would have used a heavier cord i wouldn't have had the bunching problem. But when she tried it on it bunched in the front and back. But after i sewed the string to cord hole area the dress laid very nice on her. I also made sure there was a slit in the back at the seam so that she could walk and sit comfortably. Unfortunately the dress is a little see-through so she will use it as a swim suite cover.

  15. Another thumbs up for Royal Palms - we rented a cabana last year (2 adults and 2 teens) and we felt we got great value for the day. Will be booking again for this year even though only two adults this time.

Is it $100 a cabana? I know we booked one, and I called them to verify they received my reservation. They said they did receive it and gave me a confirmation number. But they also said that they would not send me an email, their system isn't set up for that.

So, hoping my trip in Feb 2016 goes without a hitch...
