  1. I work in healthcare (hospital RN, management) so I know what you are talking about, however she asked a year and a half in advance. It is highly unlikely that there are already multiple staff already approved. Something isn't right here.

It is a poor and unfair labor policy to make employees wait and see if they get approval, such a short time before the actual vacation. Poor management/leadership with little respect for their employee's work life balance.

The big problem my scheduler is having is only 5 of us on the unit can scrub emergent cases and we have to cover 24/7 for emergencies.

They think we have cobbled together coverage but I will be working the three nights before I fly out. Guess i will sleep on the plane.

  2. Yes- I’m Aus too and when I read this I thought to myself-‘how can a boss deny you time off if it is in writing?’ I would definitely be taking this higher, probably to the union. This is definitely a case of ‘unfair working conditions.’ We’re very lucky here, more annual leave as well as long service leave. I feel for the OP as I don’t think it is acceptable what the boss has done. Approving leave, then denying it is just not on.

No union and the hospital pulls out the patient safety line if we protest.

  3. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow. Best cruise I ever went out had itinerary changed last minute due to Hurricane and had to replan everything at last minute.

I agree and once I am on vacation it all bwcomes an adventure. It's the whole plan confirm and do everything I am suppised to and getting the run around that annoys me.

  4. I will say I have some fantastic coworkers who are willing to adjust scheduling to help make this possible.

I work as a night surgical technician in obstetrics and we must have a team on at all times. That’s why I gave so much advanced notice of vacation.

I am a planner, yes I have insurance the rant was not about money being lost but the stress of not knowing if I can go.

  6. This is just a venting post but I am so frustrated right now. Ove a year and a half ago I got the okay from my boss in writing to take a longer than normal vacation. Our max time off is usually two week off at a time.

Before booking my B2B Med and transatlantic I discussed it with her and got approval. Now with it coming up in 126 day I am being told I might not get the time off. They won't know until 60 days out or so. I have explained to them about the cancelation policy etc. but no change in their time line.

I am someone who likes to plan hence the discussing the time off with the boss, early booking to get the room I wanted , researching the stops planning excursions etc. Now because others don't plan ahead I may get denied vacation.

Chances are with a little work I can get a coworker to help cover some of it and will go but I HATE uncertainty.

    Rant over. Thanks for reading

  7. I did a tour (not to Montserrat) recently with Barcelona Day Tours and found that they were very accommodating about pick-up and drop-off locations. Because passengers on the Epic western Mediterranean route can embark and disembark at either Barcelona or Rome, we had a mix of people (a) going to a hotel after the tour, (b) returning to the ship, © being dropped off at Plaza Catalunya for sightseeing on foot (that was me), to return to the ship independently, and (d) being picked up at a hotel at the beginning of the tour and boarding the ship after it.

Thanks I will check in to that.

Got to say I love the support around here.

  8. Why bother with a "tour"? It is simple to just go to Montserrat on your own. Most "tours" are far most costly and include less.

You can enjoy going in the morning and be back to your hotel in plenty of time to board the ship.

You can get your transportation there/back by train, and either cable car or rack rail up/down for under 25euros.

I did look at taking the train but the earliest one leaves 2 hours after the tour and it is not much more for the tour. This way I get to spend a couple hours longer at Montserrat. I am like you and love to take the local options when possible. Thanks for the possible suggestion.

  9. I am thinking of taking an early access trip to Monserrat the Sunday we board. It would be back about 130 in the afternoon and it looks like we leave port at 6 Pm. The hotel would be willing to store my luggage so I would just have to pick up the luggage and go to the port.

Wondering if I am crazy to try and get this in on embarkation day. Getting on board early is not a big thing for me as I will be on board for a B2B so will have plenty of time on the ship.

Also wondering if anyone has an idea of peak boarding times? Would love to avoid some of the crowds.

  10. I will be on Ncl Epic for its last Med cruise in Oct/Nov this year then the trans atlantic. . I would like to do something in Barcelona on the change over say but am trying to figure out what times work for excursions.

I know we are scheduled to start disembarkion at 5 am does anyone know what time we would be processed as B2 B guests? to complicated matters I am hoping to get a POSH pass for the transatlantic and I know they sell out fast.

Any help would be appreciated I searched but could not find the info I needed.

  11. Frequent cruiser on another line just booked my first NCL trip for next year.

First time in a studio, first transatlantic and first in Europe.

Lots of questions. How does freestyle dining work with solo cruisers.

Do we dine alone or share tables with different people every night?

My room right now is all the way to the back should I try to get it moved closer to the lounge or is there a benefit to being aft.

Has anyone done a back to back in Europe and how does NCL handle the switch?

Will a lot of people being doing a Europe transatlantic B2B?

Will we get passport stamps? How is this handled?

More questions to come thanks in advance for any answers.

  12. Got upgrade call today for May 8th sailing Alaska 300 per for ext balcony from French door. Hope it was a good deal cause I said yes.

8th floor highest I have been on ship and only my second balcony. I have seen concerns about deck noise and am hoping it won't be bad.

  13. Just to vent a little. On May 8th I am scheduled to go on a dream cruise to Alaska on the Legend. Earlier this month I went to my doctors for routine blood work and she found elevated liver enzymes. Without going in to great detail about the tests it seems I may have something seriously wrong that is being caught early. Now I am worried I may have to cancel the cruise.

Yes I know it is early to make that call and I am willing to roll the dice and risk not getting a refund if I wait to cancel in case I can get this nailed down and under control.

The part that is hard regarding the cruise is that it is taking all the fun of planning. Usually I love this part, getting ready, making lists, planning out all the ports and before and after the cruise. I adore diving in to the history of the ports and reading up in guide books. This trip I am missing all that excitement.

    Ok vent over.

  14. Just a note about thank you cards. I take the cards I write to the purser and ask them to make a copy for the room stewards and dining staffs manager. This way I know the higher up see the compliments. I often do this a day or two before disembarkation when guest services is slower.

I have had my room steward stop me in the hall to thank me for letting their boss know and mention how it would help with getting promotions and the better contracts.
