  1. Some of these exclusions sound really crazy. What could possibly be wrong about a senior riding in a trolley for goodness sake? And a beach? -I live near the beach and go often. I have 80 year old friends who have zip lined, ridden on camels and taken 4x4 tours in jungles. Who makes these decisions? My guess is 30 year olds sitting in an office somewhere! LOL

  2. I don't know about this but it seems rather discriminatory to me. I'm not that far from 80 and would be pretty upset if I was told I couldn't experience excursions. I do pick and choose those I'm capable of doing and I have a lot more energy than many younger than me.

  3. We also recently decided to switch cruises, contacted my travel agent and got our deposit transferred. I contacted the company I bought insurance from (not Tripmate) and made the change in itinerary. I had insured just the deposit and that wasn't a problem. After we make final payment, we pay the policy in full. After a really bad experience with tripmate, I'll never use them again.

Diamond Princess does not have a Thermal Suite like the other ships.

There's the Izumi Japanese Bath instead. And I'm pretty sure it's not included for suite guests.

Thanks for that info, I used the chat line on Princess to ask these questions and she did not tell me any of that! In fact it took a while to get the (incorrect) answers because she was interested in my bumping up to the Premier program. I have Plus and don't want more than that.

  5. Does anyone have any information on unlimited use of the Thermal Suite on the Diamond Princess? I was informed that suites get complimentary access but we’re in a balcony. It’s a 22 day cruise next year with lots of sea days. Any idea of cost and whether we have to book onboard only? Thanks for any info!

  6. Does anyone have opinions for the Best Western Plus Embassy Suites in Athens for 2 nights? Is is safe, convenient to sites and restaurants? Website indicates it's close to trains. Are the trains easy to navigate? It's our first visit to Athens-between 2 cruises.

    Thanks for information!

  7. Viking sold us on their insurance several years ago. Through no fault of ours the flight Viking booked for us was delayed and we missed the ship. Viking was absolutely wonderful taking care of us BUT it took months and months of writing and calling to get our money back. Never use TripMate.

  8. Glad to have watched the video as our Celebrity Silhouette just switched from Israel, Egypt, Turkey to the Greek Isles in Sept. We've never been to any of those ports so it was fun to see the pictures of the area. And great to get those points. Wish I had counted how many times that lady said "cool"!!

And also, by the way, going on a Royal cruise next month to the Carib with a stop in Coco Cay. In our 70's and still enjoy these varied destinations. Elite on Celebrity but over 50 cruises total on lots of other lines.

  9. I chatted with a live agent on  Celebrity and this is the answer:

The safety of our passengers is always our foremost concern. Thus, Celebrity Cruises is constantly monitoring the political climates of our ports of call and has strategic teams prepared to address a variety of situations. If we feel it is unsafe for our guests and crew members to visit a particular destination, that port of call will be canceled, and we will do our best to replace it with a suitable alternative.

Currently, we still do not have cancellation updates for this sailing. Should your sailing schedule later be altered, you will be provided with an alert via your travel agency or personal email address. Rest assured that fair cancellation and alternative options will be provided to impacted guests.

  10. We are booked for Sept 20, 2024 on Celebrity Silhouette and have been waiting to hear from them about alternatives. Hoping for Greek Isles as it leaves from Athens and we've never been there. So disappointed about Israel. We had one booked to go there which was cancelled due to the pandemic. In the scheme of things, an altered or cancelled cruise is not important. The lives of the innocents in Israel is what breaks our hearts.

  11. We are taking the Elation in August. We booked The Baymont by Wyndham in Brunswick, GA for the night before, which is about 70 miles from the port. We're parking at the lot across from the port which had good reviews and cheaper than at the port.

I'd love to know if you find a snooze and cruise hotel.

    Thanks

    Flo

  12. Glad they are back. When I called AARP this morning they told me there had been a glitch but to check back periodically. Happened sooner than expected and I bought 5. Final payment due next month and I'll get more in early July!

Did viking not offer to get you on the cruise at the next port? Many swear by booking  cruise line air as a guarantee they wont miss the cruise due to air delay.

This was a cruise to Cuba several years ago. There were 17 of us on the delayed flight to Miami. Viking was extremely accommodating and did offer to bus us to Key West the next AM. We were all ready to go but the bad weather cancelled that port so they offered to fly us to Havana the next day. That would have reduced our first Viking experience from 7 days to 4 and we opted to fly home. Viking was wonderful and I have no complaints about them. The problem was the insurance company (TripMate) which took months of phone calls to get our refund.

  14. I checked on the web site that shows all the ships decks and you can drag one over the other. The pool on deck 12 is in the middle of the ship and my cabin is aft so I shouldn't have any noise. Yes, a concierge cabin is above 1672 and there does seem to be an overhang. I think we'll be fine. Thanks for all the input!
