  1. My Alaska cruise is 14 months away but I have been researching hotels for some time now. Just wondering how far in advance do most hotels book. I have been trying to see about Pan Pacific but so far it has said no available for our date. I have been trying for 6 months and always says not available. Checked again today and still says not available. I can't imagine it being full over a year in advance. Well, almost a year and a half since I have been checking. So, I was thinking maybe it is like the airlines and doesn't book this far out?? Right now there are only 6 or 7 hotels near Canada Place showing up. Does anyone know if this is just because it is still 14 months in advance?

Any suggestions on other hotels near Canada Place. Also, how to get to the hotel from the airport. I read something about a walk up limo? Does this mean we don't book it in advance and some are available by just showing up?

I appreciate any help anyone can give me.

    Thanks

    Pam

  2. Ok, from what I have read I am allowed to carry onboard 12 cans or 12 bottles. I thought it was no more than 20 ounce bottles but I checked prices at the store today and they don't sell a 6 pack of 20 ounce diet coke. They come in 24 ounce bottles or an 8 pk of small bottles. Has anyone taken the 24 ounce bottles on? I would rather take on the bottles instead of cans so I can put the lid back on when I don't want to finish a whole one at a time.

I always buy a soda card but I am hoping to just carry some on this time.

    Thanks

  3. Cruising is addicting. I love it as you can see from my signature. My DH and I once booked Oasis over 2 yrs. in advance when they first opened up to do so. Everytime we do the RT to Hawaii, we booked well over a year out. So, you can never have enough cruises or book too early. It's fun watching the countdown go down. Time flies.

    Enjoy all your cruises!

  4. We will be in by early afternoon the day before the cruise so we will have the whole day.

I have no idea how pricey the hotel food will be.

Two years ago when we did this same trip, we stayed in Long Beach at the Hilton. We walked around and there were alot of places near the Queen Mary. We ended up eating at California Pizza Kitchen. We enjoyed that alot. But, the taxi the next morning was a bit much for such a short drive because of traffic. So, this time we are staying in San Pedro.

Alot of times the hotels get pizza delivery. Do you know if there is anything like that for that area?

We are really looking forward to San Pedro. The marina area sounds very pretty.

I aprreciate everyones help and suggestions. Thanks!

  5. It depends on how far you'd care to walk...If not, I believe the hotel will shuttle you to a few places...

22nd St. Landing is about the only place really close...but, a little further up beyond that is Ports O' Call Village which, for the most part, has more seafood places...but to the northern end of this is Acapulco, a local chain Mexican restaurtant which, though not the most authentic, is, at least tempered toward Gringo tastes...it is also fairly reasonably priced and this is one of the nicer ones in the chain--with views of the waterfront...

Going a little up and inland from here, you are in the area around the Crowne Plaza and there are several places around here...my favorite would be the San Pedro Brewing Co. with a nice array of everything from salads and sandwiches to seafood and burgers, steaks and BBQ...

Of course, you are maybe 15-20 blocks from your hotel, so, unless you are an avid walker, you may want to ask the front desk at the Doubletree to drive you there and pick you up...

Thank you very much. Now for fall to get here. Sorry to wish away the summer. Ours is pretty yucky anyway, We have been in a rainy pattern since February. Can't get away from rain and gloom several days a week. Oh well, something wonderful to look forward to is just around the corner. Thanks again for your suggestions.

  6. You'll be within walking distance of 22nd Street Landing (specializing in fish).

It's a lovely stroll through the marina.

    Thanks

However we don't like sea food. Do you know if there are (within walking distance) maybe an Olive Garden, Chili's, Outback or even Subway, Burger King, McDonald's? Kinda thinking fast food for a quick lunch or even breakfast but a little nicer for dinner. We love Mexican, or Italian. Any suggestions of places like these that we could walk too?

  7. If this has already been answered, I apologize.

We will be staying one night pre-cruise at the Double Tree in San Pedro. We are flying and not renting a car. So, wondering if there are any places to eat within walking distance? Fast food is fine. What about the Double Tree itself? What does the hotel offer in restaurants?

    Thanks!

  8. Thank you so much for doing this review with pictures. My husband and I did this cruise Oct./Nov. 2009 and we are doing it again same this this year. We loved all the sea days. I think your room was close to the room we had. We were on the Aloha deck on the back in a porthole room. I believe it was A749. Nice quiet location but the rocking the first night or two was wild. We almost always get a balcony on a cruise but the price difference between inside and balcony on a Hawaii cruise is crazy. The difference could mean an extra cruise.

I love your pictures. Brings back so many memories. The menu looks the same as what we had. We don't eat seafood so some nights it was not an easy choice for us but hey, it's a ship, there is food somewhere. We didn't starve. Our favorite night was Italian night. They made some lemon kind of drink and if you bought the little cute glass for 4.95, they kept refilling. It was so good but we aren't drinkers so we finally had to say, "no thanks" on more refills. Did they still do that? I believe it was on the way back.

Sounds like you had a great time and I can't wait to read some more. Thanks again! Pam
