  1. We will be sailing on Oasis in August and stopping at Falmouth. My 8 yr old son has aspergers and does not like crowds and long waits. I have looked at RCCL excursions, and private tour operators and have now officially confused myself. What tours or beaches would you recommend that are around 30 minutes each way travel time? I see many of the places are a good distance from Falmouth and I think the drive time would test his patience. Dunn's Falls is out- he wouldn't like the crowds. Any suggestions?

  2. I posted a similar question yesterday. I too booked an oceanview guarantee on the 4/14 Gem sailing and on the NCL site all oceanview, balcony and mini suites are sold out. I do not have a room assignment yet so I got excited that I might be getting an upgrade but the nice folks on CC reminded me that NCL will upsell those suites to people before they bump me up. It is fun waiting and imagining though!

  3. Our sail date is April 14th. I didn't even think of the upsells. Oh well, if I end up with a porthole on Deck 4 I will be fine. It just means I am closer to the gangway when in port! This was an unexpected treat anyway, so for the price I will be happy wherever, at least I am onboard.

I will let you all know what I end up with though!

  4. We are sailing on the Gem for Spring Break. I booked an Oceanview guarantee for this trip and at this point do not have a cabin assigned. I check the NCL site every day and the inside, oceanview, balcony, and mini suites are all sold out. Do you think there is a chance since we don't have a cabin number yet that we could be upgraded to a suite, or am I just kidding myself? I am hoping it is possible as it is our third NCL cruise in a year. Maybe I am just wishful thinking! Thoughts?

  5. We have sailed out of NY before but I see for our Gem cruise in April it says disembarkation is at 10 a.m. Is that true? If so, can you still get on the ship around noon or is it later since the ship gets into port later? We are driving from Maryland so I want to time our arrival so that we don't sit in too much traffic or get to the port after boarding. The Gem leaves on a Monday so I know we will be hitting traffic!

  6. I have sailed both Disney and NCL as well as Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. I may have a different perspective than many because my DS who has been to Disney World many times was too overstimulated on Disney Dream. My DS has Aspergers and the crowds and the kids club were a problem for him. He didn't last long in the kids club because all the children who are younger than teens all play together. He needs the structure of activities and the crew members were not good at announced structured play. In addition, the pool deck was so crowded that people stood in the pools jam packed. It was the first and last ship that I thought during the day, we need to do something other than the pool deck. I will agree that the staterooms were nicer, the shows were better and the dining room rotation was neat but the value just isn't there for us. My son enjoyed Oasis and Breakaway much more than the Disney cruise. We love all things Disney but I would rather do two cruises a year than one Disney cruise.
