  1. QM2 sailed 6day crossings thru 2009...So it must not have been that expensive...7day crossing must bring in enough revenue to cover the extra days food and still increase profits..I liked the 6day thou don't mind the 7 day crossings ..now 8 days is too much and they tried a few and stopped them..thou I am looking at the 2022 Jan NYC roundtrip and it appears the SOU-NYC leg is 8days..which I don't really care for..hopefully its a one off and not another Cunard slow down of TAs

  2. I sailed on a May Crossing in QG as was told by the head waiter that plans were to expand the Grills aft for more table space  and more deck space on deck 8 pool area...of course the deck 7 space will be reduced aft somewhat.., will the decor also be redone? He did not know..I like the ship as it is so I am hoping this will be dropped  Crossing again in Dec and will inquire

  3. After reading the article its not clear if lengthening Cunard's old pier is part of the reconstruction..if not then OM2 will not be allowed to dock at it on a regular basis...I long for Qm2 sailing down the Hudson again as my first 3 crossing did before moving to Red Hook and its shorter  less grand and less interesting sail-away compared to a west side sail-away.. and   passing so close to lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty

  4. Before last year whenever I looked for a crossing  I would always check the Cunard website for cabin location availability and was able to see all open rooms/suites in a particular grade...No more ..at best they only show 7 or less...I dislike this new inventory control they now work with..Even Calling Cunard direct at times will get you the same open results...when one of the cabins has sold a new cabin number will replace it..Forget the new website..its a very poor version of the Princess booking system

  5. QM2 doing a 5 day crossing will never happen....The price of oil is back up..I am hoping they keep the 7day crossings and not go 8 as they tried several times 2011-13 ..thou in 2019-2020 Cunard have replaced a true crossing with nothing more than a cruise with port stops in Iceland and Halifax in July! I crossed 5 times in 2004-2009 and liked the faster crossing ..thou I have grown to accept the 7 day standard and like it when there is a Sat/Sunday departure /arrival ...What I really think is missing is the sailway down the Hudson river ...much nicer than the current dock

  6. Well more than half the passengers are returning for another Cunard crossing!

I wonder if any other large ship has such a following? My November 10 crossing World Club party was jam packed..any more and they will have to split the party over 2 nights!

  7. We got our pre-cruise booklet for our Christmas cruise today. Have they stopped putting luggage tags in the back of the book altogether?

This is the first time we've booked a Guarantee so I'm not sure whether the changes I'm seeing in this edition are due to that or just more corner-cutting.

In the long run it doesn't matter since I usually print off tags from the Voyage Personaliser. Just curious

The luggage tags are not included because your cabin is not assigned yet. I had to download and print mine when I was assigned my cabin. About 3 weeks before the cruise.

  8. Sort of behind where the check-in desks are, by the pre-boarding waiting seats? I know there's a stand there but I've never seen it open.

Or is it located somewhere else?

Its in the general waiting area back by the restrooms..its really no more than a counter top with the guy selling a small selection of snack and drink items

  9. There is actually a small stand in the back that sells sodas and juice..and agree very much its nothing but a big windowless warehouse and I have always disliked it as QM2 SHOULD be sailing out of the west side piers!

The entire experience would be enhanced with the sail-away down the Hudson..The west side piers have been rebuilt and have big windows to look out at the ships and NYC skyline...of course the extension of pier 92 never happened so Qm2 sticks out into the Hudson and that's not acceptable to the coast guard on a regular basis....icon8.gif

  10. It's CGI.

It is 100 percent real..the video is running a little fast .. The images are far to sharp and clear. Near the end we have passengers on board looking right at the drone...Does remind me of the scene in the Titanic movie where there is a flyover of the ship...and QM2 is one beautiful ship!!

  11. The ship looks great..I was worried at first that she would be changed for the worse..the lobby looks nice and so does the Kings Court...so it was worth ripping out the scenic lifts..the only room that did not get a new carpet pattern was the Commodore Club...wonder why? Also the G32 now has a starry night sky ceiling ..I don't remember that. I also will miss the old ocean liner channel if its gone and will ask why on my Nov crossing!

  12. The Queen Mary in Long Beach for 3days!! ..Had sailed before QM2 on RCCl Vision of the Seas and thought it was nice looking. I really love the QM2 and only for one itinerary and that is the Atlantic Crossing ..I sailed Qm2 on a Caribbean cruise and it felt out of place as a true ocean liner, I would like to try one of the other Queens on a cruise itinerary thou I really am just a QM2/ocean liner/Cunard fan

  13. The Executive chef of the QM2 is from Yorkshire not India. If this issue of a new 'Princess Grill' menu change, (in line with this Remastering/refit) means so much to you, why not make an appointment to have a sit down private face to face meeting with him. All your postings on here are to no avail.

Many on this board are of the opinion that 'at last' there has to be a differential between the two brands, otherwise we'd all be booking Princess Grill and the QG would end up with almost 95% of upgrades.

Yes the Princess menu was close to Queens but it seems each menu was reduced..As far as upgrades for the last 3 crossings I have been on most if not all the passengers at my table were upgraded into Queens grill ,some from princess, others from Britannia ..I was the only booked Q grade

  14. Well I just checked the Cunard website for updated info and under QM2 dinning they updated only the Queens Grill dinner menu...And its much smaller in the AL la carat section..down to 5 appetizers and 5 entries and gone are the rack of lamb, lobster thermadore, duck a la orange..replaced with rather exotic sounding items. The main menu has 2 "Cunard classics " listed and everything else is something I have never see on the menu . Im sure its seen as getting ride of the old school "dated " items, never mind that many loved the menu as it was.

  15. I only book the air thru Cunard for they have much lower fares then on your own..first and business are also much lower than you could ever buy on your own..No upgrades with miles..I wanted to upgrade a coach ticket but United would not do it since I had not directly paid for the ticket and it was discounted. If you have a flex air quote from Cunard you will not have to deposit and you can choose your flights once they have it in their system..I booked the more restricted air once very early and was given a flight once they opened for booking..thou I was happy with the choice given to me.

  16. Perhaps I am the only one who feels this ship looks like a modern law office now, rather than the classic, elegant vessel it used to be? Sigh...

I am sure the food, service, and general cruise experience is above reproach, but the look is just too slick and sterile for me.

Wonderful pictures, though. Thanks for posting!

I feel the Grey tones are overdone in some areas such as the grill suites and the Deco look as Cunard have said is very much a "hint" though to be fair deck 7 never had much of a similar look and feel as the rest of the ship so this area is an improvement.

  17. The bell should be returned to the exact spot where it was ..the space that was between the 2 scenic lifts. Plenty of room now and would be fine there. I am guessing this space is now reserved for the sales tables and those evening formal pictures !

  18. The small serving area was the La Piazza section of the old Kings court ..so there going back to serving pizza and pasta..good! I wondered how that section was going to be worked into this new layout..Have you noticed is this were they still have food late at night?

  19. Only if you don't need air tickets...I booked a crossing a couple of years ago only 3 weeks before sailing due to a great price and some time off work that I could use...The airfare even thru Cunard was super high. Over 1200 dollars thou it was the holiday season but I wanted to go and nothing was cheaper that late unless I wanted to take 24hrs in transit to get home.!

  20. I have a question about deck 7 and the new Catharina lounge...from videos and pictures it seems that the walkway thru the port side has been semi blocked with screens and dense seat areas ...So everyone walking to to spa must weave thru groups of people sitting together just to get to the gym/spa areas or for that matter walk inside when the weather closes the outside decks? I think a walkway should have been retained.

  21. Here it is guys. Now you do not have to worry about all those choices anymore.

Hopefully this is an early version and more items will be added..I bet they thought the former menu was too old school food and needed updated like the rest of the ship!
