  1. No wonder that NCL doesn't know whether it is Arthur or Martha!!

My bank, the BMO, is quoting Buy/Sell rates of 1.3466 and 1.4134 so the median is 1.38. I bet this is a great change from yesterday!!

    Mike

I booked a cruise on Feb. 1 and got an exchange rate of 1.39 for the cruise but when I went to purchase the drink/dining package the exchange was 1.46! I thought I was doing the calculations wrong so I went to check the OBC and sure enough it was $100 US OBC for $146.41 CAD.

  2. In this instance though, if is the issue is people buying OBC and cashing it out at the casino for a small fee, would t it make sense it's to stop people from casing out in the casino? Why prevent the purchase of OBC.

I guess I wonder what's next... Who'll they limit my pre purchase of spa treatments, because they are at a preferred rate until I board? Will they stop allowing the prepayment of DSC?

The more OBC I have, the more I'll spend onboard. If I can't afford to purchase the OBC, I'll spend my money somewhere other than the ship.

I agree, they should have just removed the option of cashing out OBC in the casino, or limiting the amount of OBC that can be cashed out. In my mind they shouldn't prevent people from purchasing OBC, what if they were planning on using it in the spa or to book shore excursions? I would much rather purchase OBC so that I can decide which shore excursions I would like to do while on the ship than prebooking them because some times plans change. I would not be interested in paying a higher exchange once on the ship however, so I just wouldn't book any. Same goes for the spa.

  3. 1.46, dang!

We booked on January 18th and got 1.28.

I feel as though it is an error...I would have been better off booking in USD and going with my credit card exchange rate. I compared the USD to CAN rate for my booking and I worked it out to be 1.39 but everything else is working out at 1.4641.

  4. I'm looking at my Vacation Summary and it still says I have 15 X$100 OBC certificates - where would I find the little disclaimer for only $1000????

Our vacation summary showed all OBC certificates before we left too but once on the ship they were not applied to the stateroom account.

  5. I had a similar problem. We left on our cruise Jan 23. We left Vancouver Canada Jan 21 and didn't find out until we were onboard that we were missing our OBC. This happened to many Canadians on this sailing and many were upset. On Jan 14 Norwegian sent me our amenity confirmations showing everyone in the staterooms OBC but when get onboard we find out Norwegian has cancelled it. That's like buying a car and when you go to pick it up the car dealership says they don't like the deal anymore and cancels it. I think it's wrong.

That happened to my brother as well on our Jan. 23rd sailing. We printed all of our amenity confirmations, but it didn't matter...they said that there was nothing they could do and that my brother would have to deal with it when he returned home.

  6. We just returned from our cruise on the Escape and my brother ran into an issue with his OBC. My SIL originally purchased $800.00 worth of OBC in her name when she booked the cruise. My brother then went and purchased $500.00 worth of OBC in his name two weeks before we were to set sail. We printed out all our documents and all purchased items and all OBC were on the printout. We boarded the ship and my brother noticed that he was missing his OBC so he went and spoke with the OBC desk and they said they would send an email. He showed them his NCL account and bank transactions showing everything should be in order. They told him to stop back on Monday if they didn't show up on his account...he spent the rest of the week going back and forth with NCL only to have them tell him that there is a limit of $1000.00 and his $500.00 wouldn't be applied because he would be over $1000.00 for the stateroom and he would have to get things straightened out when he returned home. My husband and I only purchased $1000.00 and had no issues.

  7. Yes! I was heading out to the pool while in port and as I got closer to the door I saw this large black spot on the carpet...I thought it was a piece of garbage until I got closer. It was a huge beetle! Ugh, just got shivers thinking about it!

  8. If and when you do B2B, order your liquor on the last day of the first trip and you can have your liquor on the second trip in your room.:D:rolleyes::cool:

Does that really work?? We have sailed Carnival and DH always orders a bottle for the room, we are going on a b2b next Dec. and that would surely help our drink bill if we made our own! Has anyone who has actually sailed a b2b done this??

  9. It's not like a regular movie theater schedule; on our cruise, they showed one movie one evening and it was one of the Twilight films. Our kids went with some friends they'd met.

They do show movies on your stateroom TV, if you are so inclined.

Thanks for your reply, I was just wondering if it was more than one night and if there were multiple times...like two showings in the evening or an afternoon thing. I don't really want to go on vacation to watch movies but there is something about watching a movie under the stars that DH and I really enjoying doing. We've only cruised Carnival in the past and they have movies under the stars so I'm happy to hear that RCCL does as well. :)

  10. This is my first cruise with Royal Caribbean and have some questions, hoping that someone can help me out. :)

    - What brand of soda is on the ships? Is it Coke or Pepsi? If it is Coke, does anyone know if they offer Coke Zero?

    - Do they have an option for you to pre-buy a bottle of hard alcohol for your cabin?

    - Does the Oasis have a movie screen? I heard that the Allure is going to have a 3D screen and that it the Oasis is going 3D in the spring of 2011 but do they offer movies now?

    Thanks
