For those of you that have been getting upgrade options added to your "to do list" Can you tell me the cabin that you originally booked.  I am booked in a balcony.  So, an upgrade would be to a suite.  I can't imagine that would happen.  Does it?  It's a crazy world these days...you never know... What is your experience?

I received an email with a reasonable upsell offer today for our 2/13 Glory sailing, 8B to OS. It was also listed in the to do list. I accepted the offer.

  2. We were told by our steward that he could not open the balcony dividers. I asked at the Guest Services desk and had it open within the hour. If the policy has changed for some reason then the worst you will be told is no! ;)

  3. Others will certainly know more about this than me, but I have read on these boards about a little-advertised brunch served on the Dawn for a small fee. Apparently, part of the menu is from leBistro, and there is live entertainment.

Hopefully, someone in the know will jump in at this point so yours truly looks less like an idiot....:o

When I was on in January there was a brunch with live entertainment that was hosted in the Venetian.

  4. BUT--as others have said --(here and on Carnival thread)--things in checked luggage can be "valuable" to the person (it is subjective and varies)...favorite blouse, expensive shoes, makeup, a child's stuffed animal, whatever...I would be upset if anything happened to my luggage--theft or loss,etc....I can't possibly put everything of "value" in my carry on....

I totally agree that value can be subjective, and like I stated earlier, I most certainly do not want anyone pawing through my things or to lose my things...even if it is only underwear.

When I say of value, I'm talking jewelry, cameras, phones, mp3 players, Nintendo DS, etc....things that actually would be worth stealing and reselling (as awful as that sounds). I don't think anyone is going to risk a theft charge just to steal a stuffed toy but may risk it to resell a diamond ring or a camera that is worth money.

  5. [quote=scchasgal;22808661]Has this question come up because of Carnival's changes this week?

No, it's just that I always wonder after handing over my luggage to the porters if I should have locked our luggage or not.

Thank you to everyone for your replies. The cable ties are a very good idea, I think we will use these in April.

To Luvmybear; I don't put any thing of value in our luggage, and like everyone else I carry it on the ship or plane. I was just wondering how the cruise lines feel about this and what others have done. Plus, I just don't want someone to have the temptation of looking through our bags.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. I completely understand the question of whether to lock or not. The question of checking valuables was more directed at those who state they have had valuables stolen from checked luggage. I couldn't imagine checking anything valuable and putting it out of my sight in the hands of strangers. :)

  6. I use cable ties, for much the same reason. It keeps the zippers closed, and then, unlike the locks, I can tell if my luggage has been opened. (Never has been so far.)

I use the cable ties too. Neon colored ones, which are a bit harder to replace in a pinch if someone does cut them for nefarious reasons and wants to pretend it wasn't tampered with. Just me, but I'd sort of like to know if someone is pawing through my things.

  7. Why would you put anything of value in your checked luggage and not in your carry on? If any thief wants my underwear or shampoo, I hope it's worth the effort to steal them.

That being said, I lock my checked luggage as well. Not as much for security as making sure the zippers don't accidentally unzip en route.

  8. We were river tubing in Dominica and having a blast. We hit a strong set of rapids within a few minutes and almost all of us took a tumble from our tubes. I was so proud of my quick recovery until the excursion down the river was about over. My husband grabbed my tube, pulled me aside and THEN informs me that I had "fallen out" of my halter-style swimsuit. I had been oblivious to the fact that I was floating down the river with my "buoy" hanging out. :o

I dont' know why he didn't notice sooner. Normally that wouldn't be an issue. I suppose that there are quite a few people from that excursion who have "naughty" pictures of me. I have to wonder who else noticed.

    • Haha 1
  9. That is excellent, thank you!!!

    You're welcome!

We were never "prompted" with any answers and Skip (the CD) read our answers as we wrote them. We were seated back to back in 3 pairs of chairs on the stage.

Sounds like every CD does it differently.

  10. With this game do they usually invite any couples who have gotten married on the cruise?

When they started asking for Newlyweds, they had us state the date we were married. Since we had been married that day, we played. They don't go all over the audience asking, so make sure you sit closer to the front so the CD can see you.

We definitely became mini-celebrities on the cruise. When we stepped on Cosol's van in St. Lucia the next day, the van full of 9 people, practically in unison, chimed "Hey, it's the guy who farts on his wife!" People stopped by our dining room table, stopped us in the buffet lines, in the elevator, you name it! :) It was a blast though.

  11. I went back and watched the video for you! :) Here were the 10 questions:

    1. Where and when did you first meet?

    2. On a scale of 1-10, rate your first kiss.

    3. Two part question: Who was your husband dating before you and what did you hate about person (for the wife) and what did you love about her (for the husband)?

    4. You haven't seen ugly until you've seen my wife's ______

    5. What's your husband's most disgusting habit?

    6. Where is your husband more macho? In bed, out of bed, or in his head?

    7. When your wife bends over, what does her butt look like to you?

    8. Your husband steps out of the shower, which of the following describes him? A dump truck, a stretch limo, or a little pink Volkswagen with two flat tires?

    9. If you had a parrot in your bedroom, what would be his first words?

    10. What animal best describes your husband and why?

    Hope that helps!

  12. I was on in January. We weren't asked the whoopie question, believe it or not. The question about stepping out of the shower was asked, along with

    1. Who was your husband's last girlfriend and why did he like her (or something to that effect).

    2. What is your husband's grossest habit?

    3. What animal does your spouse best resemble and why

    4. What was the date of your first date

I'll have to watch the video again to remember the others. It was actually a lot more tame then I expected it to be from reading here! :)

  13. We are flying Alliegent Air into St. Pete's - I have booked Embassy Suites at the TPA airport. Would Chase Suites be closer? Since we will be taking a taxi I am wondering which is easier or closer. Thanks in advance

If you're considering Chase, call them and ask about their Ship to Shore package. It includes a shuttle from the airport (TPA) to the hotel, and from the hotel to the pier. We have 5 people traveling and saved some money in cab fare using their package.

  14. luvmytbear - I'd suggest the Chase Suites. NOTE: Call them on the phone to make your reservations. Tell them specifically (DO NOT ASSUME) that you want the package including transport to the cruise terminal. I've read where some folks have messed up and not communicated this clearly, and have been left using a taxi. The rooms at Chase Suites are large. Folks with my company have stayed there on business, some for extended periods. As I recall, this was once a Residence Inn by Marriott. There is a decent place to eat right next door. This location is to the W of the Tampa International Airport, by about 3-4 miles. The cruise terminals are E and somewhat S of the airport, on the SE corner of the downtown core, about 8-9 miles from the airport. Taxi from Chase Suites to the cruise terminal could be $25-$30. Hopefully, you can get the transport deal at Chase. I know about the Double Tree at Rocky Point, where it its, and what it looks like, but I haven't stayed there and I don't recall anyone writing about it. They are usually nice hotels, and the one at Rocky Point looks good.

    Ken

Just got off the phone with Chase and secured our ship to shore package! We got a room for 5 including transport from the airport and to the pier for $249.

Just a heads up for those looking to book hotel and air to Tampa between January 27 and February 2. The Super Bowl is in Tampa at this time. The lady on the phone at Chase said they're already booked solid. Moral of the story: If you're cruising between these dates, get booking ASAP! :)

  15. Won't we all be glad when the search abilities are back on track? I'm wondering if anyone out there has a comparison of the Embassy suites at Westshore and the Embassy Suites Downtown? There is a big difference in price and I have read some posts indicating that the Westshore location may be worn with outdated furniture, etc. But those prices sure look better!! I also have looked at the Doubletree Guest Suites and Marriott Waterside.

We'll be on the Legend on June 1st celebrating our 25th Anniversary, so we want to start the trip off right!

    Thanks for any input.

Ain't that the truth! I even tried using the Google way to search this site but it didn't help much within this thread. I ended up reading everything anyway. Ugh!

  16. First off, Ken and Jeff thank you so much for the time you put into this thread!! :D I spent two nights reading it and garnered a LOT of information to do my hotel planning with! We're raiding Tampa and the Inspiration with our three kids this January.

I don't even want to start messing with Priceline (call me a chicken too! lol) so I'm looking at cost factors as well as a clean, safe place to put our heads down. I don't mind paying for a good nights sleep, but with 5 people that can easily get pricey. That eliminated the Hilton, Hyatt, and Embassy right off the bat. They were batting a 300 average for a one nighter.

I think I have my choices narrowed down finally. I'm down to:

    1. Chase Suites on Rocky Point Dr. $189 per night. If I read correctly, this includes shuttle from the airport and to the pier as well?

    2. Doubletree Guest Suites also on Rocky Point. $178 per night, shuttle from airport but not to the pier (that I found anyhow)

(I tried to check availability at the Doubletree Westshore but could not get any availability for 5, even using two rooms.)

Did I get the location thing right when it comes to distance from the airport and the pier? (Meaning I'm not too far away from either or ;))

Is there a specific one of these two you would recommend as better than the other? I figured that the "cheaper" room at Doubletree wouldn't really be cheaper by the time we paid for cab fare for 5 to the pier in the morning. By the way, anyone know about how much that would run if I did choose Doubletree?

You guys are great! I can't wait to have this experience under my belt so I can help others with my newfound knowledge.

  17. I'm too chicken! :D Not to mention if I want to change my 'look' it might be a little difficult. I would be afraid of my aging changing the way the permanent makeup looked with all the sagging and line formation that could happen. I'm hoping it won't, but still.... ;)
