  1. We're cruising out of PC in September.

Second question...is there a liquor store nearby? We are allowed to bring two bottles of wine on board with us, and we do not want to check them in luggage for the flight down. Hoping that there is somewhere close. Here in NJ there are very few groceries that sell alcohol too; does the Publix that was mentioned in prior posts?

    Thanks!

Yes. Publix sells wine and beer. I am not a drinker, but I think there might be a liquor store attached to this Publix. Also, most drug stores sell wine and beer as we are a tourist area.

  2. Since we won't likely have another chance to visit the KSC in the coming years (not until our son is quite a bit older - he will stay with the grandparents on the ship for this trip), we wanted to go even if for a little while. The online tix are $50pp, the excursion through the ship is $84pp to buy in advance. We figure buy the online tix and get an Uber/taxi right off the dock so not to wait for other passengers. Just trying to figure out if there is something "extra" that the cruise ship offers aside from the transportation to get the biggest bang for our buck and for the short time we will have there.

Actually, the Uber/Taxi fare will cost you quite a bit, probably about 50 bucks each way. I know they pick up from the ships in NASA buses so they probably take you right from the ship to the behind the gate tour. It is great and takes you to the Saturn V center. I highly recommend the Atlantis exhibit. To me, the peace of mind that I will get back on time is worth the extra money.

  3. i was looking at our taking the Tour the day before our cruise next year. We plan to arrive two days early so we can see the sights since we have never cruised out of Cape Canaveral. What is the best way to get to the KSC, and should we rent a car since we will be coming in 2 days early.

Yes. KSC is pretty far away from everywhere for a reason. It is a great place to visit. Senior rates start at age 55 but you must buy them from the ticket agent, not the computer kiosk.

My favorite tour is the Cape Canaveral lighthouse tour. It takes you on to the restricted area of Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. It is a three hour tour that does not just the lighthouse but all the Mercury, Gemini and some Apollo mission highlights. You have to book at least 48 hours in advance because you need to get cleared by the base. It only goes on Friday and Saturday mornings. Here is a link. http://www.canaverallighthouse.com

    Enjoy.

  4. I worked check-in on both Holy Ship cruises. I will have to say the terminal was loud and the crowd was diverse, but the people were lovely. They waited patiently on line when we had a back-up due to a security check. Everyone was respectful and polite. Not my type of music but neither is jazz, so I wouldn't like that blasting in the terminal all day either. However, it was nice seeing people dancing in line.

  5. People are less likely to notice or complain if you do it at non-peak hours. The early morning and evenings are the most popular times. I have seen young athletes in the gym on various cruises. If they are truly working out, it doesn't bother me. However, if your 5 or 6 year old is using a treadmill at peak hours so you can work out then, that is just rude and thoughtless to those that like an early workout. Also, a group of teenagers acting being loud or hogging machines will draw the attention and ire of other cruisers.

  6. There is a tour that takes people out from the port to the lighthouse and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. It is the only way to get out to this steel lighthouse. Those of you that are lighthouse buffs, bring your lighthouse passport (or buy one there:)) and get an extremely rare stamp. You also see the original launch pads from the Mercury flights and the launch pad where they lost the crew of Apollo 1. Admission to the Expedition Tower and a space museum is included. The tour only goes out on Friday and Saturday morning and must be booked in advance because you need to be cleared to enter the base. Full disclosure, I do not work for the tour company, but have taken it. Since I am a local, I started to volunteer at the lighthouse after my tour. http://canaverallight.org/?page_id=858

  7. What right do you have to demand others you do not know to provide YOU with a noise free tour?

I think it is everyone's duty to be courteous to their fellow travelers. That means not talking during shows, covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze, using inside voices, holding the doors for others, taking the stairs if you are able and letting those that need it use the elevator, etc. These are things I taught my first graders because that makes everyone feel respected and calm. Since a toddler cannot control themselves, it is up the the parents to plan to be courteous to the others around them.

  8. Crew on the ship become very close just like military units do when deployed. They were probably celebrating an event in a shipmates life. Most officers are European and having wine with a meal is the norm since a young age. There is a redundancy in each position on the bridge, so if someone was impaired, he/she would be made to leave immediately.

  9. I had a child with MS in my class one year. All he wanted to do was be able to walk in line with his classmates. He and a pal (and his aide) would always leave early for lunch, specials and dismissal because his motor problems made it difficult for him to move with normal speed. His mom told me about that before school started. So that year, we all left five minutes early (except for dismissal because he needed to be out for the handicapped bus 15 minutes before dismissal). All a handicapped kid wants to be is part of the pack.

  10. Anyone who has traveled with a handicapped person knows how difficult it can be traveling with a wheelchair or other equipment. It kills me when people try to scam that system. I also get crazy when people bring in untrained 'therapy dogs' where only service animals are permitted. I have raised guide dog puppies and know how specialized the training is for genuine service animals whether they are their for an obvious physical reason like blindness or a hidden reason like seizures. Please stop scamming the system and be grateful you don't have an exceptionality.

  11. I love book exchanges and libraries. I often leave books on cruises, hotels, the USO at airports, with the feeling that someone will pick it up and enjoy it. They might enjoy it at this location or take it home with them. The purpose of the written word is to share the 'story' whether it is a fiction or non-fiction book. Once I enjoyed it, time to pass it on. I also pick up books on a cruise. I know some of you might disagree, but I feel if I left a book, and I didn't finish my selection, it is alright to take a donated book home and re-donate it later. That does not apply to library books, just donated books.

  12. BTW, there is always a huge mark-up on jewelry. So the vendor is making good money on each sale. They would loose a little profit by giving you the 10%, but when you walk out of the store or return the item, they lost 100% of the profit.

I can't stand this nonsense. I once closed a bank account in which I had a substantial amount of money because they charged be $3.95 to give me a copy of a cashed check. It was not the 3.95, it was the fact it was a free service when I opened the account.

  13. I think she was saying that people shouldn't sell them, even at a reduced price and that they should just pass them on.

Yes. It just rubs me the wrong way. I also think that if Princess or any other company find out that people are undercutting their prices, such as selling their elite coffee cards, they will simply eliminate that benefit. It is just dollars and cents.
