  1. First time on Princess and first time to Alaska. Do people use the Sanctuary on an Alaska Cruise? Would be ideal in the Caribbean, but what about Alaska? Will be fortunate to be in a Penthouse Suite. Is the Sanctuary complimentary for suite quests? or does everyone pay the half/full day price.

Appreciate any assistance and comments. Thanks.

  2. I/family will be taking our first Alaska cruise this August (2017). This will also be our first cruise on Princess (Star Princess). Interested in learning what is the "norm" for Formal Night attire. What are the majority of people wearing (suit and tie or slacks and collared shirts)? What about the ladies?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  3. Astro Flyer

USS McMorris DE-1036 was a diesel powered DE. Our max speed (going down hill) was about 21 knots. We would have never been capable of keeping up with you. What we gave up in speed, we made up for in endurance and range (9,000 nm). The ship was configured for independent steaming and special collection operations. When we encountered a carrier, they just sped by us. Could only keep up with them if we were both in port.

  4. Sailing Princess for first time in August 2017 on an Alaskan cruise ending in Vancouver. Is it possible to make an Alaskan Airlines flight departing at 11:00AM. As with other cruise lines, does Princess have the option of departing "first" after following arrival in port. You are responsible for carrying off your luggage. In this way, you are the first to leave the ship so you can make an early flight.

How long will it take to get to the Vancouver airport?

    Appreciate any assistance.

  5. Andrew, An absolutely amazing and comprehensive multi-media review. With the level of detail your put into your cruise reviews, I am surprised you have time to actually experience the cruise. I have a vision of you either on the Flowriders or in your cabin on your computer. However you do it, it has been a joy to follow your adventures.

One question with regard to disembarkation. With the "Genie substitute" taking you from cabin to customs, how was your luggage handled? In addition to coming to your cabin to walk you off the ship, did the "Genie" also have someone take your bags or did you have to carry them yourselves or did you have to do the evening before put your bags in the hall by 11PM? Will be on Harmony the end of April in Star Class and just planning ahead.

Again, a great review. Appreciate the honest evaluation of the Star Class service and of your Genie. I am a person who writes Corporate following a cruise, usually highlighting the positives and specific members of the crew. I will ensure to include my experiences with the pier side embarkation process. Hopefully, sufficient feedback to Corporate might result in changes and improved initial experiences for those of us fortunate enough to enjoy the Suite Life.

  6. Will be on Harmony the end of April in a Star Suite. Very interested in learning details of your Genie's performance (or lack thereof). Happy to hear you elevated your concerns to the Hotel Director.

Reading all the reviews on these boards, it appears that Harmony has four Genies...Cleon Frazer / Alex-Alexandra / Reyno Varkevisser / Sebastian, of which three are assigned Suites for each cruise. Am interested in who your Genie is.

Also interested in the Hotel Director's response to your concerns. Considering the cost of a Star Suite and the expectations that Royal Caribbean has been promoting for the Royal Suite Class, it is concerning that the level of Genie service seems to vary greatly by individual and by specific cruise.

Appreciate any response you are comfortable providing. In the meantime, have a wonderful cruise with the family!!!

  7. FYI - Will be on Harmony the end of April in a STAR class Suite. Received the below questionnaire 47 days before the cruise and wanted to share the questions:

    1. Name.

    2. Preferred Nickname.

    3. Your family members traveling with you.

    4. Ship.

    5. Sail date.

    6. What would constitute a "perfect" day for you and your family?

    7. Name three things that you and your family loves doing together while on vacation.

    8. Is there something your family has dreamed of doing for a long time?

    9. What is the best surprise your family has ever had?

    10. Given the choice of anyone in the world, throughout history, whom would you want as a dinner guest or guests.

    11. What favorite book or movie does your family enjoy together.

    12. Is your family more of a morning or night owl type of group.

    13. What is your go-to beverage while on vacation? What do your children enjoy to drink?

    14. If you could only bring three things with you to a deserted island, what would they be?

    15. What are your culinary delights, loves or dislikes? Do your children have favorite foods? Does your family prefer to dine earlier or later in the evening?

    16. What is your device of choice--Apple or Android? What models do you have?

    17. Did you know that 50% of guests onboard are celebrating something? Is your family celebrating something?

    18. Last but not least, is there anything about your family that we haven't covered? Please feel free to let us know of everything and anything about you?

  8. We did not do the chefs table but yes they can. He did make all the other restaurants for us and I was a little concerned because we had 8 people. You should get a generic questionnaire about 2 weeks out and a email from your genie 10 days prior.

Would be interested in any comment/observations you have on the Presidential Family Suite itself. Any comment/recommendations on having 8 people in the PFS. Assume you had 2 people in each of the four bedrooms (two master suites and two different interiors). Anything you would do different the next time?

The one sensitive question on the boards is how much to tip your Genie. Realize this is based on his/her service and your feelings regarding tipping. Any general thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!

  9. We are in January 14 in the presidential family suite so if we don't hear anything before then I can let you know. We will have 8 adults in our room so our genie will be busy.

I will be in the Presidential Family Suite in April 2017. Will be very interested in your Genie observations and your impressions of the PFS with a party of 8. Thanks in advance.

  10. I saw your comment that you did not pre-book your dining, but had the Genie take care of it once onboard. Traditionally, I have done that well in advance to ensure I got the dates/times I wanted for specialty dining. Traveling with a family group of 8, will the Genie be able to arrange all the specialty dining "at the last minute". Of course, I would give the Genie the flexibility of dates/times to fit us in.

Interested in your experiences since I have never left dining reservations to the last minute.

    Thanks.

  11. Since the Star Class Suites have "normal" gratuities included in the fare/suite benefits, I would be interested in what your thoughts are on "tipping/leaving a gratuity" for the Genie. My understanding is that the Genie is not part of the gratuity system. Anything given to the Genie will be based on their performance/what they do for you. Is $10 a day per person in the Suite reasonable?

    Appreciate any thoughts.

Greatly appreciate all the water slide information and pictures!

It will be interesting to see what "impact" the stairways and water slides have on the Suite Deck/Gold Card Deck. I know it is a "first world problem", but it appears that the aft portion of the Suite Deck will be "covered" by the slide entry area/actual slides up on deck 18. The view looking aft from the Suite Deck was excellent, with unobstructed views aft and into Central Park. Those views will be lost. Will be interested to hear the noise level generated by "hot-footed" people waiting for the slides as they wait on the stairways. Wondering if RCCL has taken any of this into consideration.

Again, this is a "first world" problem. I plan to use the water slides. However, the potential noise, water splashing out of the entry tubes and lost of unobstructed views is a concern for someone who pays extra for a Suite. I am afraid the tranquil aspect of the current Suite Deck (on Allure and Oasis) will be lost.

Again, this impact only a few of the 6,000-plus people who will be onboard. Just making an observation.
