  1. crewsweeper, c-leg5, thank you both....maybe the best plan is to use the bike cab for the pier part, hubby could then just walk from end of pier to Senor Frogs.....we are indeed going to the Bar Hop!!

  2. We will be arriving on Princess to Puerto Maya Dock, want to go to Senor Frog's.  Hubby does not walk well, so will need a taxi even fore the short distance.  Would appreciate a current price. Thanks!

  3. So we haven't cruised Princess in years.  Went in today to "register" on the app and found my old login, etc. I have downloaded the Medallion app to my iPhone so will get on with that in the net days, or whenever it lets me complete........ But since I'm not at final payment and booked third party, there is no reservation at Princess yet.  How can I reserve dining at this point?  If no one can reserve till final payment (90 days), won't there be a stampede of people on day 90 trying to det dinner times?  Thanks!

Oh that old tiny little one by a bar. We don't bother with that one any longer...I assumed it was the larger area past the Malecon. Regardless they'll take USD as you know.

Can someone describe both of the flea markets mentioned in this thread? Which sells what, that sort of information.  What else is nearby ? Thanks!

".......In effect, there are two distinct starting points for Island Explorer bus routes. .... Routes 1, 6, 7, and 9 are longer-distance routes that serve surrounding communities, rather than the park itself, but may be an interesting diversion for cruise passengers. Routes 3 and 10 serve the park itself....."

GTJ, I am interested in your comment about routes 1/6/7/9.....we have a tour of Acadia National Park already booked on one day, and on a second day, are interested in using the public bus to do some other exploring.  Can you make suggestions on what bus route might be the best to take? We are two seniors, hubby doesn't walk distances very well.  We'd like to ride the bus for some more exploration, and overall are on the NCL Breakaway in late September. We'd be happy to get off and wander a little, then take the bus to return to port.  Thanks!

  6. Actually, we have since booked the Ketchikan tour: Rainforest Walk and Raptor Center, Alaska Rainforest Sanctuary.  There is a 3/4 mile walk apparently, but it sounds slow and on even ground, and I called the provider for reassurance.  Thanks to all who chimed in, looking forward to meeting up.

  7. The Raptor Center tour includes a walk of about a mile, it says over level ground. I'm wondering how strenuous this is, what is the pace of this walk?  Hubby (79) is capable but fairly slow, will have a cane.  We dont want to slow others, so wonder if it's a "walk a little, stop and hear information, move on some more" type of thing....or is it a start to finish hike with no interruptions?  Thanks

  8. We have $100 in our account under Future Cruise Deposit.  Can that be used as on board credit or is it only for the actual deposit? I'm confused by the wording online........ This is what the website says:

"Any available Future Cruise Deposits can be applied to your next Holland America Line booking. Cruise Credits and Cruise Deposits can be combined. The onboard credit amount displayed is based on the length of your cruise vacation and type of stateroom or suite."

AND, can I apply it myself to my online account? Or do I need to stay on hold for hours to talk to a live person?

The big stage shows (Six and Burn the Floor) were scheduled for shows at 7:30 and 10:00 PM on the nights that they ran. So there were a couple of nights where Six was scheduled to run at those times and a couple of nights where Burn the Floor was scheduled to run at those times.  In reality there were multiple cancellations of scheduled shows, so other substitute shows (vocalist, magician, comedian, etc.) ran in the main theater instead.

Your review is fascinating, you have excellent writing skills.  Even more importantly, your comments and planning show what an intentional parent you are, which is why your boys were such a joy to have with you on this trip.  Oh, that all parents spent the time and emotional energy on what you want for your children that you and Stacy do!  Best wishes!

  10. Trying to plan for our upcoming New England trip on Breakaway.  Can someone share the show times for Howl At The Moon, Sixx, Velvet, and Burn the Floor?  Are there any other show, also? Do those 4 run every night, or only on certain nights.  Thanks!!

I have been in many of those cabins, on all the Vista and Signature class ships. They are my favorite cabins on those ships, and my first choice every time.
The 'L-shaped couch' doesn't have much of an 'L' to it after it starts curving, so there isn't a lot of sitting room. The longer part of the couch is a pull out bed in those cabins that have extra sleep space. But it is comfortable for two to sit on, in either case.
The last time I was on any of those ships, the TV had been removed from the shelf above the desk (a corner shelf by the closets), and a large flat-screen TV was affixed to the wall opposite the bathroom door. The shelf was left intact, as were the outlets that had previously been used by the TV and DVR, so there was a lot of extra space and outlet capability.

I stayed on starboard every time except once, and recommend that side of the ship, the closer to mid-ship, the better. Port side is under the Queen's Lounge bandstand and the 'thump-thump-thump' of the bass can be disturbing until the band closes down for the night. Now, if you are there closing the place, the cabins will be fine. Closer to the forward area you are beneath Billboard Onboard and the Casino. I was under the Casino once, and didn't find noise a problem; I don't know about Billboard Onboard noise.

Some of these are connecting cabins; I've never had a noise problem from the doors between. The connecting cabins have the head of the bed against the bathroom; those that don't connect have the bed facing the closets, desk, and TV.

The K-cabins on the same deck are exactly the same, except much further aft. If you like to stay out at night, they are a long walk home, but otherwise fine cabins.

They are under the dining room, so quiet.

Ruth!! That is wonderful information! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain the nuances.  We are booking this morning so will make decisions based on this.

  12. I heard Halifax is "quite hilly" and could be hard to walk for a senior....? I know its subjective, but wondering. And, the eastern shore across from Halifax, there are some other small towns, wondering about trying to visit those areas, I believe one of the areas is called Dartmouth?

  13. We've booked one 7 day cruise (September) that does New England coastline: Bar Harbor, Portland, Newport, Saint John, Halifax......and are considering booking another (different line) cruise for a B2B, doing almost the same ports.....Bar Harbor, Portland, Saint John, Halifax.....we are thinking that will give us more time to explore in each town, but then I'm wondering is there enough for two days sightseeing in those ports?  Of course, it's a subjective question, but I'd be interested in opinions and input! We are seniors, interested in scenery, nature, history.  We live in the south and want to make good use of the travel time to get to NE, also thinking we'll experience another ship e haven't done.  Thanks!

You must mean Promenade cabin, don't think Adventure of the Seas has a Central Park.

I would rather be toward the aft, more things back there, only things in the front is spa and theatre shows.

Jimbo, it is a Promenade cabin I believe, I dont think the CP refers to Central Park, at least not on the site I looked at.  I'm not finding any similar cabins toward aft, but some of the ones we're considering are just forward of the middle elevator.  I do appreciate being close to buffet so I appreciate that input.
