  1. WLHyatt & Calliope,

Thank-you both for your detailed responses! For me, it is the destination of the Creole Queen that interests me. I'm interested in touring Chalmette Battlefield. However, it seems that showers are predicted for 12/4 so, rather than take a chance on bad weather, we may use the day to visit the WWII Museum. Several reviews have described it as a "can't be missed."

  2. Thank you so much! Booking the Street Car/Garden District tour actually sounds like a good alternative to the Creole Queen as it would allow us time in between tours to rest in our room. If you remember the name of the restaurant please let me know. Thank you again for the great info!

  3. wwinfl91, Thank you for responding! It's not our first time in NOLA. We've visited twice as a destination. I like your idea about the streetcar, especially since reservations aren't necessary. Besides the beautiful homes, is there anything special to see in the Garden District?

  4. We're arriving one day prior to our cruise & I'm trying to decide between the river cruise & a historical walking tour of the French Quarter. Does anyone have any insight about the river cruise? Theoretically, we can do both if we can get into our hotel early enough to nap but I won't know if our room will be available until we arrive. The walking tour received excellent reviews but the river cruise sounds interesting too. Thank you for your help!

  5. So much fun to read everyone's favorite part of the cruise! For me, it's the endless planning & research prior the the cruise, seeing a glimpse of my ship as I approach port, sitting on our balcony while drinking wine as we finally leave on our long awaited vacation, & waking up on our first day to nothing but blue water. I can feel the stress leaving my body already!

  6. Thank you for writing a review. My DH & I will be cruising on the Triumph on December 5th for our 2nd time. Our cabin is a balcony 9279. You mentioned bringing a fan. I hate to feel hot! What kind of fan did you bring & where did you buy it?

Thanks for the info & the great review!

  7. We (me, DH, 2 kids) are cruising to Progreso in December wanted to do the Dzibilchaltun ruins tour. We saw that we could get it cheaper through Autoprogreso, so I decided to try out Carnival's Best Price Guarantee. Booked for 2 adults and 2 kids and submitted the form. It was accepted and we were given 110% of the difference ($140) in OBC. Just wanted to give others who may be planning this excursion a heads up. :)

Thank you so much for the heads up! We'll be sure to utilize it as well! My husband & I will be on the Triumph's Dec. 5th cruise & will be cruising, for the first time, without our daughter. Enjoy your cruise & thanks again!

  8. Am on triumph now, I agree on the guys burger sadiecat, my burger was lukewarm, and the bun was soggy like it had gotten wet...the fries are good though. It's cold all over the boat except lido rooms, we had to get a fan to be able to sleep. Service is great everywhere but MDR. We have had to ask several times for refills, as there was 4 adults at our table and we drink a lot of water and tea. Not a big deal but still annoying. But as I have said in the past, any day on a cruise ship is better than a day on land!

    Mykindaparty,

I'm going to be sailing on the Triumph in cabin 9279 on December 5th. I love it cold! But it sounds like the lido deck cabins are warm if you needed a fan? Did Carnival supply you with one?

Enjoy the rest of your cruise! I hope you write a review when you return!

  9. Saint Greg,

I've been reading this thread &, with the tons of info you offered, I was able to get the Hilton Riverside for $89 for 1 night prior to my cruise in December. Thank you so much! Dorothy

  10. We're staying at the Caribe Hilton. We were able to get an ocean front room with a balcony for both nights for $238, not including tax or resort fee. I can cancel it & I haven't paid yet so I'm still looking for a better deal.

What hotel are you staying? We are staying at La Concha for 3 days after our cruise.
  11. We ended up booking out of Wichita, Ks, which is only 1.5 hours from us, for $416 pp. Dallas is about 3.5 - 4 hours depending on traffic. Strangely, the airfares out of Dallas were not much cheaper than OKC. When we flew to Mexico, there was an $800 difference total between OKC & Dallas!!! We decided to stay in SJ 2 nights after the cruise. I'm so excited!! Thank you everyone for your advice! Happy sailings!

  12. Thank you for the advice Luv2trvlnow! One of my coworkers travels to PR frequently & told me the same thing. He paid $300 at one point last year but said that was an unusual. Typically, he pays $500.

  13. We're booked on our cruise but I haven't booked our flight yet. I've been checking prices daily &, so far, prices have ranged from $417 pp to $500 pp. We're planning on flying to San Juan on May 9th out of either OKC, Tulsa or Wichita. When would be a good time to book our flights in order to realize the best price? My hope is that I could get tickets for about 300 pp. Am I delusional? Thank you for your help!!!
