  1. We came from the states and were definitely disappointed by 3 missed ports when this itinerary already had so many sea days. I’d be surprised if seabourn does this itinerary again... we wished they had tried to make dravuni work especially since we went to Lautoka on Boxing Day when the entire city was closed. That seemed like poor planning... most people we talked to were very unimpressed and bummed by both the Suva and Lautoka stops...

  2. hello! Currently sailing on seabourn, and sometimes I wish I could order something more snacks from room service since most of the printed room service menu is main courses.

I know you can order things from

The restaurant in advance, but it got me wondering if there were some “standards” that can be ordered on the room service menu?

For example, has anyone ever ordered any of the following with no notice?

    Grilled cheese

    Quesadilla

    Chips and salsa

    Pizza

Or has anyone else ordered something different off the room service menu??

    Thanks!!

  3. Hi,

We are sailing on the Encore in December in the South Pacific, and when I logged in to look at excursions for the different ports, most of them show no excursions.:confused:

The following ports show no excursions:

    Dravuni Island

    Lautoka

    Suva

    Tadine

    Kuto

    Inyeug Islet

    Kingston

    Russell Bay

What does this mean for these ports? Does this mean that you just walk around these areas, or what are the options exactly? Any idea how I can find potential excursions in these areas that I could book privately, since Seabourn doesn't seem to offer any?

    Thanks!!

  4. Hi All,

I have sailed Seabourn before on a variety of itineraries, but never the Encore. We always pick based on the itinerary, not the ship.

We are thinking of booking the Encore in December and had a few questions that some of you experts might have the answer to. I read most of the recent Encore threads, but didn't see these answers, so apologies if they have been answered recently.

    1) Does Seabourn still do a signature excursion on the beach/tropical trips as we have seen in the past, like Caviar in the Surf or a beach BBQ? I don't see it mentioned on the online itinerary, which is why I wasn't sure.

    2) Is it correct that there is no outdoor circular walking track on the Encore? I saw that mentioned in a previous thread.

    3) We are looking at booking v5 rooms, probably on Deck 7, midship. Is there anything (or cabins) we should try to avoid or look out for when picking our cabins? Any reason not to pick something on Deck 7?

    4) Does the ships still decorate for xmas and have those great cookie table displays? In the past those were some of our favorite things about spending the holidays on Seabourn.

    5) Does anyone post the menus anywhere, from the different restaurants, or at least a sample of them?

Thank you for your help & time, it's been a bit since I've cruised on Seabourn and am out of practice, especially since the Encore is new!

  5. Hello,

We are arriving at Seatac airport at 9:30 tomorrow and are planning on taking an Uber directly to Pier 91. I know official boarding time is 1:00pm, but is there a chance we will be able to get on earlier? Or, will we be waiting until 1:00pm? Is there anywhere to sit on Pier 91, chairs etc? And are their bathrooms? Are we better off hanging around the airport until a little bit later?

Thank you for all of the advice! We have cruised a lot before, but never out of Seattle or on HAL.

  6. Hmm,has anyone ever rented a car from the Avis by the Goldbelt hotel? I've heard that the Juneau Rent A Car has some older cars, so I'm wondering if Avis is better even though it's a bit more expensive?

Also, does anyone know how close the goldbelt hotel is compared to where the Westerdam docks?

    Thanks!

  7. Thanks for the input and advice! If I am already doing wildlife and whale watching on a boat in Sitka, should I also do it in Juneau? I was planning on hiking around Mendenhall in Juneau.

Also, the next few days in Juneau look rainy. Do you think it is likely short bursts of rainy, or long consistent rain? Will we be able to do Mendenhall?

    Thanks!

  8. Anyone know approximately how much a taxi would be from the CT dock to the Mendenhall glacier?

Also, does anyone have a preferred taxi company in Juneau?

too bad there is no uber :(

  9. Hi Sacway,

Welcome back!! Another passenger from the same cruise just posted a review and said that there were tons of kids on the ship, the lido was also packed and that the dive-in had crazy wait times. It doesn't sound like you felt the same way. Can you give more specifics in when you visited the dive in and lido? Thank you!!

  10. Thank you for the tips! Is the best way to check the time at the place where I buy the tickets?

Just in case, how much is a taxi from the visitors center back to the ship? And do they have them waiting there, or do you need to call? Thanks!

  11. Thank you for the insight and help! How close is the ship dock to the downtown/shopping/eating area of Juneau?

What would be the best way to schedule visiting Mendenhall and hiking around, and then heading into town?

For example: (ship is scheduled to be in Juneau for 1:00pm-10:00pm)

1:00-Leave the ship and catch the shuttle to Mendenhall

    2:00-4:00/4:30-Hike around Mendenhall

    4:30-shuttle back to the ship

    5:00--walk around town?

Does a schedule like this make sense? Open to any suggestions since I don't know too much about Juneau and it's the only port we don't have a planned excursion in. thanks!

  12. I've posted this in the Alaska thread as well, but since this board is so active, I figured I'd ask here as well. Thanks!

    Hello All!

We are heading up to Alaska shortly via the HAL Westerdam. We do not have an excursion planned in Juneau as we want to just go visit Mendenhall and maybe explore the town.

    A Few questions;

    1) It looks like the weather is rather rainy in Juneau the next week or so. Is it still possible to go to Mendenhall and hike around? We are at least hoping to make it to nugget falls. Are there other hikes recommended around Mendenhall too?

    2) I've heard about the school bus/shuttle bus to the visitor center? Where do I find that specifically, in relation to where the Westerdam docks? What schedule does it run on? And how much does it cost?

    Thank you!
