You will generally not find possible excursions in the various ports. In ports with longer stops, the ship docks close to the city center and you have time to walk around the city.

But most of the 34 stops stops from Bergen to Kirkenes are very short (15 minutes) and no possibility for excursions. The only excursion I think is a must is the North Cape in Honningsvåg - should be booked in advance as it is often sold out - some excursions can be bought on board with a discount. Enjoy the cruise and the scenery and limit the number of excursions. Every day there is a lecture about the areas that are passed.

    Many thanks for your information.😊

  2. Has anyone been on a late Summer / early Autumn Classic Coastal  Voyage and done any tours on your own?
Have been researching and find it very hard to see anything at all.

We have no problem doing ones offered by ship it is matter of working out how many we can fit in within our budget.

Any must do or do not’s would appreciated.

  3. Random question can any one tell me about China port of call?

We will have a 14 hour port stop in Shanghai will the 144 hr visa waiver work for this port. Japan was our last port stop. Korea is next port stop then on to Taiwan.
Anyone with any experience or info greatly appreciated.😀

  4. They certainly still offer Gty we have one on Solstice

1 October. When we started looking they had 10 suites left by the time we decided to book 3 left. That was 3 weeks ago now understandable all sold.:cool:

  5. We were on Millennium Feb 2016. 3 couples we chatted to had free up grades from Aqua to Sky Suites. On recent cruises have not heard of any one getting free up grades but when there is 2500 plus passengers do not get to speak to everyone 😀

Would love it if the up grade fairy wafted over us some time.

  6. We are are in a Sky Suite for our next cruise the last time we were in a Sky we had a promotion that had all 4 perks. No perks this time. So if we go to Michaels Club at any time during the day do we pay for drinks, alcohol, bottle water. I know that pre dinner drinks and canapés are free

Thanks for any info you care share. 😀

  7. Thanks everyone for your input. I think it is time I write to Celebrity Head Office and get a bit of clarity why we are discriminated against because we do not live in USA. To access what seems to me a reasonable option on up grading. Will let everyone know if and when I get a reply. Margaret

  8. Has anyone upgraded their cabin category when there is a big price drop. On Celebrity at any time?

eg. oceanview to veranda, Aqua to Suite. and if so did you just pay the difference.

    eg. Paid $1000. Cabin I want $1900.

So I would pay $900. Just the difference.

Here in Australia tried to do that just a couple of weeks ago and they have a special formular for us to up grade at an extremely higher cost than just the difference.

Just curious we have never tried a category upgrade on Celebrity before.

    Margaret🤔🤔🤨🤨

  9. Make sure you have a full day for a tour. I had wanted to do a cooking class but we were only in port a few hours so wasn't able to fit anything into my schedule. We're not beach people, so we tendered to the pier and walked around the port (Na Thon), had a beer and a foot massage (we got Thai baht at an ATM - we were in bangkok for 2 days after and knew we'd use it)

I'm glad we didn't book anything because (as I noted above) tendering was very problematic when we were in port and was taking much longer than usual to get on & off the ship. And I was on a small ship!!! Can't imagine trying to do it with 2000 or however many.....

    Thanks for your info. :)

  10. Yes. Taxi prices on the pier seemed to be set, so we went for a short walk off the pier. Then when a taxi pulled up in the town, he agreed to a reasonable price for four hours, stopping and waiting for us at a couple of beautiful beaches.

    Thanks for the info. :)

  11. Thank you for the information we still have plenty of time till the cruise so will keep on asking X about it and checking where I can. But can certainly get a visa a few months out from cruise.:):)

  12. I know this is a strange place to post this but thought some Aussies may have had this situation and could answer my question.

We are cruising in Oct Tokyo to Hong Kong we have one day in Port at Shanghai.

Do we need to get a visa before we leave home ?

Do the ships organise on ship ones?

Anyone that could give me some information would be much appreciated.

We may not even leave the ship as have been to Shanghai before but need to have all bases covered for what might eventuate!

Do you need a visa if you do not leave ship?

    Many thanks in advance. 😀

  15. We did not have a guide found our driver from Athens by Taxi was very knowledgeable with info before we went into sites. Also had Rick Steve's Ports of call book with us. The very best thing was the FREE down load on our iPhone and iPad of Rick Steve's tours around The Acropolis put in our ear buds and had our own private tour guide great. He has free guides for many places in Europe. You do not have to pay extra for a guide. ;)

  16. Please double check what port the rental company is going to meet you at. Some times they do not mean at the top of the chair lift. They are talking about the port area the ships tours are tendered to so they can get on the coaches every on else is tendered to the chair lift /stairs area.So please make sure you are very clear where you are meeting the car rental people. If you go up on the chair lift there are many car rental companies on the main road.

The local bus is very cheap and will get you around if you are not wanting to go to the other end of the island.

  17. We are doing the 33 day cruise from Istanbul so by the time we get to Calvi will probably be interested in wandering around town and beach day ourselves.

I did read a guide book on France that had day tours around Corsica including Calvi and what you suggested is what they said to do as well.

I agree with the price of ship tours. We have only booked one in Egypt for safety reasons. Someone on CC has organised a private tour it is about a 1/4 of the cost of ours with more places visited.

    Cheers
