Thanks! Yes, I am planning on taking the train to Seward and figured that getting a hotel near the depot would be a great idea. But I was sort of wondering how to get from the airport to the Grand Anchorage Hotel, as I don't think they have a shuttle service.

Hi,
I am booked on the Explorer for the Alaskan trip next year. I have a fast question: Does anyone have an idea of what cab fare from the airport to a hotel near the train depot would run? This should be a great rip and thanks in advance.

Hi Tim,
WOW!!!
Thank you - you just made my day. I really, really wanted a nice copy of the cookbook for my friend. And I will order one for myself. Such a great memory of many happy days on Oceania.
Many cheers and thank you again.

And thank you too, Mighty Quinn. That is a great suggestion and I will look for the travel/cruise shows her in Colorado Springs. Glad to know that you are really happy with your cookbook.

Hi,
That was a great buy! The ones I have looked at on Amazon have been highlighted, etc. So I guess I will have to wait until the right one comes along.
Thanks,

Thanks Jim and Stan,
Yes! I would book myself on the Riviera in a heartbeat. We have been on the R ships before but this was a first for the O ship and we loved it. We booked for the Caribbean the end of March (Colorado was very BRRR with snow) Especially Red Ginger and Jaques. And the real French baguettes with butter. my friend has booked for the first of October of next year and that seems like a long time to wait for the cookbook. So I will keep looking at Amazon.

I would love to buy the Oceania Cookbook for a friend of mine, as we have done a couple of cruises with Oceania and he loved the food and is an excellent cook. I saw where I could order it on the Oceania site, but only as a Bon Voyage gift. I checked Amazon.com and only used books are available. Jim & Stan, Mura, and other regulars, do you have any suggestions?
Many thanks in advance!

I am in El Parque in San Antonio Tlay. And you?
Cheers,

PS: I also posted on the roll call - for some odd reason, I had a hard time finding this post initially.

Lorna,
I am sorry that you had to cancel. Hope you are recovering. We were looking forward to meeting you since we have been on similar trips in the past. Last December we were on the Fram for the Shackleton Christmas trip. It wasn't as long as your cruise, but we still really enjoyed it.
Maybe some other time and trip.
Armand
Thanks, Armand. Even tho I won't be able to do this trip, I hope that you will post when you get back and let us all know how the trip was. BTW, I read a review of the Shackleton Christmas trip and it sounded extraordinary! I think that you saw a lot more of that part of the world then I did. The Fram has excellent expedition leaders who really make the trip and give one a lot of insight into what they are seeing. That part of the world is incredible. And I think that Vietnam and Cambodia will be too. You will be going at just the right time - I have read where every river boat company there is, is planning on putting on a boat there next year. So it will be good to beat the crowds.
Have a great trip!
Cheers,
Lorna

Lorna,
Have you been monitoring this board?
Hi, Yes, I have. I did a riverboat cruise in Europe last month and really came back sick.Who would have guessed - after traveling to Egypt, Micronesia, Melanesia, etc., Europe was not kind to me. My doctor said that Cambodia and Vietnam was not the trip for me, so I had to cancel.:( But I have been lurking on the boards, as it sounds like such a great trip and I figure I can travel second-hand.You should have a GREAT time and I will be eager to hear about your trip.
Cheers and happy traveling,
Lorna

Hello 2Fltravelers!
Thank you for a marvelous review - so very helpful and certainly answered a lot of questions. I also have printed out your review as I know that I will be referring to it often. I and some friends are booked for the December 6 land-cruise trip this year. Now- if I can just figure out how to get a VISA from Mexico---
Thank you again.
Cheers,
Lorna

We were told not to trust getting an e visa. Someone said that depending on who is on duty checking credentials might not look highly upon this document and could reject it. In his words he said "when entering a Communist country, you don't want to take any chances." However, I would like to hear if anyone else did this. We did send our VISAs through the mail for our China trip and not only did we get them back in plenty of time but we also received a call from the service to clarify something. this was a service recommended by Viking River Cruises. We were told that they had never lost a VISA in 13 years.
Thank you, PhillyGirl2,
I live in Mexico so I thought I would check with the Vietnam Embassy in Mexico City to see if I could get my VISA through them. What I got back was a direct link to the vietnamvisa on line service. Oh dear----what to do.
Cheers,
Lorna

Hi,
Thanks for all the great information. I will be doing the AMAWaterway trip this December. So - my question is: Has anyone used the on-line Vietnam Visa service (http://www.vietnamvisa.com) to get the visa? If so, did everything go well? I really don't like sending my passport through the mail and would prefer an electronic service.
Thank you in advance and happy traveling!

Hi,
Two thumbs up for standing up for the employee. I am also sure that you saved her a lot of trouble, if not her job. Hard to believe how some people behave.
