  1. Yes you can decorate your door. I have been doing it for years.

quote=extradishes;22774789]So I am new to cruising. On RCI, are we permitted to decorate our cabin doors? It wouldn't be anything obscene or anything that sticks out into the hall and impedes traffic, of course, but if it's permitted I am planning to cover most of the door.

  2. Thanks for the information, we are doing the Dolphin Swim and will be done at 11 and plan to tke the ferry then. That is why I am concerned about time.

uote=paul58;53337497]Your ship, Allure of the Seas, is scheduled to be in port from 8 am to 5 pm on Thursday 6/29/17 This website will give you ferry times and costs: http://www.explorenevis.com/nevis-ferry-schedules/. Be aware that they are doing some major construction work on the passenger terminal bldg/ticket booths in St Kitts. Do not buy a round trip ticket because you may be returning on a different ferry. Be sure to purchase the port security fee ticket also. It is needed to board the ferry. They are usually pretty reliable but you should have time to catch the 9:30 am ferry over to Nevis.

  3. Thanks for the helpful information.

The Hamilton birthplace is only 300 yards up the street from the ferry dock in Nevis. It is rather small so it does not take that much time to tour it. You can easily walk to it and there is a restaurant next door.
  4. I will also be on the June 25th cruise. My daughter, granddaughter and I will be doing the Dolphin Swim. Then my daughter wants to take a ferry to Nevis to see Alexander Hamilton's birth place. She is a school teacher and big on history. Also went to see Hamilton on Bway.. My concern is taking a ferry on our own and making it back to the ship.

We are on the June 25th sailing with Allure of the Seas. We've been on Song of America, Sovereign of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas (2x), Jewel of the Seas and Adventure of the Seas(2x). This will be our first sailing on an Oasis class ship.
  5. Good to know this 70 year old will be doing this also ''

We did the Dolphin Discovery last week when in St. Kitts on Allure of the Seas. We booked on our own--via an independent shore excursion company (refundable if ship doesn't make port, etc).

The cost was about $20 less per person than through the cruise line, but our main reason for booking on our own was the age requirement in place by the cruise line. DD is 6. RCCL requires participants to be at least 8, but Dolphin Discovery & independent company only requires participants to be 6 as long as there is an adult in the water with them.

Transportation was not an issue at all. There is a taxi staging area at the end of the dock. It was $3 per person each way. Taxis were in good condition. The drive to Dolphin Discovery is very short.

The swim was great. DD loved it (so did my 70+ year old mom).

There is a restaurant there. We didn't see anyone eating. We sat on the porch & purchased some sodas while waiting for our turn.

  6. My sailing is up $3,200 for balcony with two adults and one child.

I can't speak about other cruises, but this morning on RCCL's website, I found a $223.00 drop on my 6 night cruise on the Freedom for Dec, 2017. It might pay for others to check their cruises. One call is all it took to change my price. I originally booked direct on RCCL's website.
  7. If you are talking about St John on your own tour (The State Park) I did it in November. Took boat over and then got on tour bus. Since it is a state park there were no rentals that I remember. Beautiful beach. Thinking of going again in June. There is an additional charge for the tour bus to the park and then a fee to get into the park (beach). I have a state park pass that saved about $2.50 off the fee. One pass lets you bring in four people besides yourself. This is a senior pass I got when in Wa on another cruise. They can be obtained on line I think.

    Hello

Was wondering if anyone has done this excursion, as we will be on the Oasis in April and one of the ports we will stop at is St Thomas.. We were in St Thomas in October and we are considering checking out St John.

Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

    Kim

  8. Our ship offers a Dolphin swim, but don't see any with the tours recommended. Doe any one know of any.

It is a very good option and very easy to do. There will be many taxi/tour operators vying for your business once you depart the arrivals bldg. There are 4 ships scheduled to be in St Kitts on your port call date of 1/10/17, with a port load of approx 7900 pax. Taxi/tour operators are really the same but the difference is taxi rates (going from point A to point B) are regulated and posted but tours are somewhat negotiable. All of the taxi/tour vehicle have yellow plates that begin with T. Larger coaster buses have plates beginning with a G if I remember correctly. Private vehicles begin with a P and rentals begin with R.
  9. The "Real Secret" is to explore the entire ship, deck by deck, to see what is there.

Print deck plans from the RCI Web Site before you board and then just wander and explore.

You will be glad you did!

Here is proof that this system works.

On our first cruise on the Jewel of the Seas, every time we went to the Windjammer we got our food and then found a nearby place to sit down and eat. At lunch on the 4th day, the Windjammer was pretty full so we kept heading aft to find an open table. And we found the open air seating area across the stern of the ship. For the rest of the cruise, that is where we ate.

Had we not walked back there we would never have found it!

That is my favorite part of the Jewel.

  10. Would like to book a New England cruise this summer but heard some negative descriptions of the Explorer's physical appearance in the public areas and in the cabins as well. I know it will be another year before the ship goes in for upgrades, but are they maintaining the cabins and pool areas? Some have commented that carpets are dirty in the hallways and the outside balcony areas are rusty, etc. Would rather avoid a ship that is seedy. Those of you who have been on recently, please let me know...thanks

Was on Explorer 3/21 and going again 5/22, ship is fine. It is not new, but not falling apart.

  11. Hi MM, just off Explorer today. Indeed the bar servers are not too happy with the new program. One problem is that they all do not have access to all the complimentary drinks available with the coupon. The port wine was one example. The second comment was that they are not getting the usual 15% tips.

As a second point. If you have access to the Concierge Lounge, please remember to tip your waiters. The service there was great and I know many guests did not leave tips.

Just got off the Explorer today. Enjoyed my drinks in the Vicking Crown and did tip our bartender. The lounge begins with M is The Diamond Lounge and un limited drinks from 5-8:30. but limited selection.
